Real Pic January!

Just two years. It's a very expensive instrument, with maintenance (strings, etc) and private lessons from the best conservatory instructor I couldn't have afforded it at a younger age. Been playing solo until this year where we did our first group lesson and now we're learning this song as a group to perform.

Yeah, it's a difficult instrument to learn and practice, but it has a really unique timbre and role in the orchestral setting.

FWIW, the harpists I knew at Juilliard were an interesting lot!

That's very true. Everyone who takes harp is "off the beaten path" in more ways than instrument choice. Most of us have learnt piano first though, it's not a requirement but it helps. I've also learnt flute.

I'm glad you're not using this anymore.

I mean, it's nice and all, but Pyromaniac is using this screenshot from the game and you really don't want to be confused with him.

Yeah that's why I had the pink/beige hue.

edit: doh, double posted and can't find a del button

I just lost my shit.

How long did you play the piano and flute? Do you ever go back to them, or are you busy with the harp?

I play the guitar but wont admit that in this forum because of all the "guitar guy" hate that goes on around here.

Hey! No staying in the closet. We even have a thread, sort of.

As for the harp, I immediately think of the Mississippi sax instead of the stringed instrument. My friend just started teaching herself the latter on a relatively inexpensive instrument she bought online. I can't remember the brand or I'd link it; remember it's American. One of the first songs she learned was Stairway To Heaven.

I like to combine the posts into one. However in this case the board moves faster than I reply, so I replied to stuff that appeared as I wrote my original reply.

Quote in a new tab and then paste into the 'edit' window... have to be fast, though.

Finally back to the land of the living in terms of computing at work. I went from a Pentium 4 w/ 2 gig of RAM and XP to an i3 with 8 gig of RAM and Win7. So yeah...that's a slight upgrade. :lol

.nu top level domain?

South Pacific island of Niue?

I think so, I didn't want a .com years ago and so I ended up paying quite the premium for the .nu domain. I don't mind as I heard the money for those domains goes to help the small country.

I still use the piano for some stuff, because it is an easy instrument to "figure out" stuff on, esp if want to make a song re-arrangement for harp (which is a science of its own). Played it since I was 6 or 7 and that that was a long, long, long... time ago. Flute since I was around that same age but stopped.

Stairway To Heaven.

The best dreams is where you realize your in a dream and you can control it. It's only happened to me a few times and I always wake up shortly thereafter dammit. Right when I'm about to join up with Batman usually.

Yeah. Lucid dreaming is certainly interesting. I've had that a few times. I'm also one of the people that wakes up the moment I realise it's a dream. I did have one dream where it continued for a bit though. I had a dream where a man was chasing after me with a gun. I realised I was dreaming and tried to make the dream less scary.

9pm is when my dog is ready for his evening walk. And this discounts that he's always ready for his first walk as soon as I wake up, and his second walk as soon as I get home from work.

And on days when I am home all day he is ready for dinner at 5pm, no matter when he has breakfast he wants dinner at 5. Even though on work days he gets dinner after 6.

Yeah. They just know the time of day. There is no way I can leave it until later because he just stands there looking at me and whining. lol

Question for everyone:

What communities were you a part of before Real-Pic January?

I started with Gaming, thinking "Why would anybody want to read Off-topic content on a gaming board?

Then I started following Who-GAF and Wrasslin-GAF (←these days I don't even watch any of the stuff, but I still get maximum enjoyment from the Wrasslin threads!). Now I'm here, because I like interacting with people who look like people and not ponies* or random abstract art.

* I still love you mlp-GAF. Gay Burners, who provide our regional source of FiM (I've seen about three minutes of it in all, seems cool enough), also feed us alcoholized coffee at our time of greatest need, out on the campgrounds in Delaware.

What the hell is happening in this thread? Freebird? Stairway? What is this, a Guitar Center?

People comically mispronounce my name all the time.

At a certain point in high school I just started answering to all the mispronunciations.

Yeah, my name has been mispronounced over and over again since I was like, 10. It's just part of my life, now.
