Yes, both great scenes. I'm curious to hear what you thought the tea & cookies scene meant. I think it could be interpreted a couple of ways. edit: I wouldn't take it at surface value (e.g. they are not actually
poisoning each other
, at least not literally!)

Scene and ensuing promise struck me as a sort of maturation of their relationship as in even in the event of hurting one another, intentionally or not, it wouldn't be some permanent wedge between them like others in the student council had let consume them. Also a bit of foreshadowing for the rooftop confessional when the feelings spill out.

It's sweet, 'cause even Utena thinks she failed, but the bells that toll the end of the duel only sound when Anthy leaves Ohtori. Hence, at that moment she "won."

The moment where this song plays during the scene with
Dios on the carousel
always gets me.

Great point about the bell.
And yes, that track is fantastic.

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou (Record of a Yokohama Shopping Trip) OVA: Episodes 1 and 2

yokohama103.png

Last night I had the urge to watch something calm and peaceful. What came to my mind was Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. I read the manga a few years ago so I knew what I was getting in to.

From Wikipedia, since it describes it well:

"Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is set in a peaceful, post-cataclysmic world where mankind is in decline after an environmental disaster. Exactly what happened is never explained, but sea levels have risen significantly, inundating coastal cities such as Yokohama, Mount Fuji erupted in living memory, and climate change has occurred. With the seasons being less pronounced, the winters are milder and the summer isn't scorching anymore. The reduced human population has reverted to a simpler life, and the reader is told this is the twilight of the human age."

YKK is essentially a slice of life story with mild sci-fi themes. The story mostly follows the daily activities of Alpha, an ageless android, who runs a cafe out in the quiet country side while her human owner is off traveling with no sign of returning. Initially she knows very few people and little of the world around her. Alpha receives a camera and a message from her owner encouraging to experience life outside her isolated cafe.

Being an OVA, it is very pleasing on the eyes. For those complaining of the ugly CG used today, YKK is completely hand drawn and animated. Many details, such as the the warped reflection in a train window, help top it off. The music fits with the calm and peaceful nature of the world.

If you're looking for an introduction to YKK, this OVA is a good place to start. Up next, the second OVA series.

Edit: I really like the setting of this series. Having a peaceful, post-apocalyptic is a nice change from the "Oh no, we're doomed!" setting. Everywhere in the countryside you see the remains of our modern civilization reclaimed by nature.

To each their own but what's the better "detail" you were ascribing it as having.

the shading and lighting, and the design seems a bit different
granted i haven't seen how well animated the show is, but i heard its romance so... yea not too interested

Sounds like an art style preference than anything else then. Not better detail.

Detective Conan 131:
It had been like six years since I read this case in the manga, so I didn't remember much of it outside of Haibara opening up a bit to Conan. It's still pretty good, and a nice character development moment, although I feel like the ending is a bit convenient. It was nice to see Conan in hot water, though, and it's an important case for fleshing out Haibara more after her introduction. The underlying case is less important this time.

i dunno looking at this
they gave her a black line instead of lips, and far less shading in the hair, and the face and clothing is flat shaded
basically im asking the impossible

Personally if they were to add detail to Amagami I think it would be better served with improved backgrounds. The characters themselves are already pretty good looking, the main difference i see in that image you posted from how Amagami normally looks is the shading. Dunno if that makes it more detailed or not, is one type of shading more difficult or time consuming than another?

I always harken back to this episode when I think of a unique case. Show's a real ability for diversity. I think they just like drawing stadiums though :P. Plus it's Sato's badass appearance episode!

Thermae Romae 1: Flash animation > 3D CGI.

This is the best animu show in 2012 so far.

this show has some really budget animation
was not expecting the racist direction hahaha

of course adding shading is more time consuming, and nearly impossible to animate if there is too much
i was merely stating if they made girls look that good while being animated nicely then it would be enough to draw me in to one of my least favourite genres

Yeah, the earlier Conan episodes are superior than the newer ones. They're not BAD per say, but the older ones were just more creative. ^_^

Guilty Crown 12

Why!? Shou was epic.
I havent cried this much from an anime since some of the Angel Beats episodes. So emotional and powerful. I Knew Gai wouldnt make it to the end but episode 12 was just plain shocking and depressing already, especially with everything coming to revelation, has to be devastating for Shou. I hope he can rise to the occasion as we explore the rest with Daart, the GHQ and whoever is in control of both
.
you best be trolling
Guilty Crown 12

This show is a goddamn train wreak.
Train wrecks are usually a sight to behold. Guilty Crown is just as derivative as it gets, audiovisual excellence aside.

Code Geass at least had a retarded stupid plot that went wherever the fuck the writers wanted. Plus it had great direction.
Utena 38-39

Figured I was in for a treat when it started with the elevator sequence but wow, just a godlike ending to the series.

Just a rollercoaster of emotions. I think I wanted to believe in the prince and the castle as much as anyonel (even though I heard forever ago it was an illusion.) Even then I still hoped I just heard wrong. Himemiya's last betrayal in the final duel was heartbreaking, Utena struggling through the pain doubly so. Everything about this was so wonderfully tense such that I felt it really could have gone either way rather than kicking back and waiting for Utena to win.

Totally bought into Utena failing as well when no one could remember her and Akio said he was going to start everything over again. :( Thankfully she did save Himemiya.

Also, I see what you meant now regarding Nanami, DrForester.
Yeah, it was pretty great, wasn't it? Now go watch the movie.

Yeah, I forgot to even mention that. Satou makes her first appearance, and it's as a complete throwaway character. Of course, Takagi started off as a throwaway as well, so I guess it makes some amount of sense. It's weird seeing her as a complete background character and Takagi and her not even having any interaction, though.

I dont particularly disagree, just trying to figure out what you meant from the original image post.

So, general question, what did you think of the series overall?

Overall it an amazing yet satisfying descent into madness. It started off straightforward enough but the Black Rose arc
Wakaba ; ;
left me unbalanced and I never quite regained my footing until the end.
It was interesting to see the stakes raised in each arc from simply dueling for the Rose Bride and the right to some nebulous power to Duelists after her life and finally the bonds being tested. I adored how Utena seemed to become a secondary character at times in the third arc while the other council members struggled with their own ghosts. In particular, Ruka stuck out for me for returning to the duels on his terms rather than Akio's (assuming I interpreted this correctly) for Juri's sake.
It was pleasant to see how the recurring theme of the student council's members loved ones just out of reach was handled with apparently enough care to maintain a sense of familiarity yet never a feeling of retread if that makes any sense as well.
Also, there was something wonderfully satisfying about seeing Akio disheveled in that final duel if only briefly.

Yes

Yeah. I'm gonna watch this.
So, like Death Note. See, you say stuff like this...

and then you want to support shite like Infinite Stratos.

I want to support it because of Charles. Her character redeems that entire show. Well sort of.
So, Anime-GAF. Code Geass, sub or dub? I think I'm going to skip K-On! for now.

Subbed. wakomoto demands it.
As for K-ON, you must experience it as well.

Same here. I started watching IS because everyone went on about how wonderful she was. I nearly dropped after the first few episodes, but Charles finally arrived in Ep. 5 and she lived up to the hype.

what was so great about Charles? be honest

For me, she is not only uber cute, but in particular she just feels... I dunno... genuine. She's not super genki girl, she's not super tsundere girl, she's not super insanely-shy girl, she's... a pleasant girl. Like, the kind of girl I would totally love to hang out with IRL if such a girl existed. She's supportive, but not a doormat. She's forward, but not slutty. She's nice, but not just to Ichika. She'll fight when it's time to fight, but knows when the fight's over. She's not super shy, but not super outgoing. She likes nice things, but isn't high maintenance. She's assertive, but not demanding.

She just strikes the right balance in just about every way for me. :-)

so basically
waifu?

Hanasaku Iroha 19:
So, the writers remembered that they had this Michi/Tohru/Ohana love triangle going on after like six episodes of ignoring it? Tohru is so tsundere. I like seeing Minchi more this week, and some of her hypocrisy regarding the way people were acting with the cultural festival. Ohana's dream was pretty hilarious, too. Pretty good episode overall, although not as consistent as the previous one.

Fate Zero 2-3

Wordy. Wordy. Wordy. It’s not as bad as that first ep, but the dialogue is as dry. I’d bitch more, but it seems as if the scene setting is finishing up, for the most part, so I’m interested to see where this goes. Also, Shirou not like his papi; Kiritsugu is such a boss. Gilgamesh, to continue, seems to be a bit better this time around, but Kotomine is still as annoying as ever. Silly snake, tricks are for pimps.

Chihayafuru 1-3

I’m so glad I have a ton of this to watch. And I think the end of this arc is as good as any place to stop and jot some quick impressions: I fucking love this, damn. Also, team Arata 4 lyfe. Allegiance called three eps in. Don’t give a fuck. A real dude doesn't need much back story to figure out who his bros are, and I'm a real ass dude.

Interesting bit of news -- apparently Funimation decided to pull their BD release for Sora no Otoshimono Forte rather than delay it due to the Japanese licensor, Kadokawa, having issues with the NA release date being too close to the Japanese one.

http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-ne...-canceled-heavens-lost-property-forte-blu-ray

Brings up an interesting question, though -- if reverse importing continues to be a worry of the licensors, what would be an appropriate wait time before a cheaper overseas release?

Amagami SS+ 2

dGA0el.jpg

I can't help but see how Oedipal this wishfulfillment shot is. It's like she wants you to embrace her, but because of the low angle shot, it's like you're a child looking up at a parent.

Then again, I suppose this relationship is defined by the fact that Tachibana is the bottom, so maybe it's meant to appeal to those specific fans.

Roman Bathhouses 1
kr3eMl.jpg

I was expecting something strictly educational and instead it became this weird, low budget comedy about bathhouses in Japan and how awesome they are. I still find the concept weird, probably because of what a bathhouse means here (towels are not for covering up body parts, as it were), but hey, why not.

Iku x Boku SS
It's this season's loli x bishie combo with a really strange foot fetish shot. Seriously, the older man/female detective loli thing has somehow become a genre.

FUTSUUUUU
I like her too, though I still dropped the show

Why don't the Japanese producers just come up with a business plan that doesn't involve ripping off their fans, and instead make anime that is affordable and appealing to larger groups of people?

Oh, right.
