I think in longer stories, there has to be a reason that makes the story worth it.

Like in Gatsby, it was tragic, but the main character learned from that tragedy. If you end the story with nothing having really been accomplished, I'm not saying it never works, but that's a hard thing to pull off.

Oh man, I loved it. Nice twist, which was slightly foreshadowed by the bus scene (in my mind) not adding up completely. I like your writing style, too.

It's a bit depressing, but in that sense, more realistic. That same story line with a happy ending wouldn't have given the same reward imo.

That is true, and I rather liked that book. I suppose it was well written enough that it didn't come off as depressing to me even while the story was tragic.

And yeah, I foreshadowed stuff here and there. One of the reasons I've been looking in to NLP is to try and see how I could apply it to writing. So I'll use the same word for different scenarios because your brain reacts to the word and prepares for the same feeling that the previous application use.

Like, for example, I used the words "locked out" to describe how the girl would not let the narrator get any further in the bus. I used them again when they tried to get in to their own house. It's the same sense of being defeated by someone's capriciousness both times.

(but I read it at the office, so maybe I wasn't focused enough. Great story though!)

Yeah I notice that now,
the wording and general story reminded me a bit of that brain teaser of the doctor, father and son. I'm sure you've heard of it.
 
Awesome mask :o

I finally got around to grilling those veggies. Caramelized onions and brussel sprouts, zucchini (almost caramelized too, accidentally, really yummy), and a risotto with baby portabella mushrooms and a sauce with a little pinot noir in it. came out pretty awesome.

Can anyone recommend a free dvd burning program? I have a bunch of video files that I'd like to burn to disc to clear some hard drive space. They're in all sorts of formats: wmv, avi, mp4, mkv, whatever. It would be best if I could play the burned disc on a standard dvd player after it's done.

Suggestions?
 
what an awesome day I'm having.

M.O.T. test? fail.
have you been up all night? why of course I have.
do the tyre folks have your tyre? no, they are waiting on delivery.
London's a big place though, can't you go somewhere else? yep, but at this second place, they have only two remaining in the size I need, and I need three.
Fuck where's my rucksack? oh shit, left it at the M.O.T. test centre... rucksack's got my ipad in it... groan..
phone battery just died as well.

too tired, too stressed, but strangely, I feel alright / upbeat... for some weird reason.


I called up the test centre, they do have my rucksack, and they are keeping it safe.
The alternative tyre place, has 2 of 3 tyres I need, so I could theoretically, be 2/3rds done in the next hour.
The original tyre fitting garage's delivery is coming today, by sheer luck, cause they normally order on Friday, delivery is normally Monday.
And as I'm typing, I'm at home, sipping tea... hmm....
 
For no particular reason, I'm now in a very 90s hip-hop mood. Any suggestions?

Also, how come like 99% of rap rock is utter shit? The few times it gets pulled off properly, it's fucking amazing, but noone seems to understand how to do it right and we end up with shit like Limp Bizkit and Zebrahead instead.

I've not slept all night and I'm in that over tired like phase where I have all these crazy/cooky ideas that seem awesome to me.

Just spoken to a friend who also stayed up all night (doing a uni thing but not liking it etc) and he's in like the same boat as me, not enjoying what he's doing, not seeing himself as good at anything, not knowing what to do etc so I suggested we start up a videogame website with reviews, news, let's play like things etc.

It's a good idea right? At least for something to do. I think it's a good idea. Maybe not as good as ordering a wrestling mask but still good.

I was actually using a real pic briefly a while back after animated avys got axed, not sure why I stopped. So honestly I'll probably continue to use a real pic indefinitely, or at least unless something else happens to really resonate with me.
