Huddlestone is starting training again, if that's any consolation.

Really? He's well ahead of schedule. Hopefully we ease him back in rather than chucking him in at the deep end like last time and fucking up his ankle even more. A central midfield drawn from Modric, Sandro, Parker, Huddlestone and Livermore is as good as any in the league.

Gah, Spurs need to be crushed :P

Liverpool v Stoke, Chelsea v Sunderland.

My money's on at least one of those being interesting.

I expect a 1-1 in both games. Chelsea without Drogba, Liverpool without Suarez.

We're playing Stoke...at home. Better put your money on the other game.

I never underestimate the power of anti-football.

Edit: I read that Stoke's defence have injury doubts. Carroll to weave his magic.

Welcome to Darren Gibson. Shooooooot

Oh how well I remember commentators saying "and he's laid it off to Gibson, who is known for his fierce shot . . ."

Wolfswinkel out for at least 1 week, could be a whole month. Time for Diego Rubio and Sebastian Ribas to step up because Bojinov clearly isn´t a valid alternative to Wolfs.

I don't understand that Saha comment on Twitter, is he referring to the fact Gibson does a ridiculous number of speculative long range shots?

Yes. For Everton he's a good buy at that price.

I think he either has two options; knuckle down, sign with us and potentially be one of the best players in the generation to come, or retire. I don't see him moving anywhere else and suddenly becoming this angelic first team player. He's talking about leaving the biggest club in the country. Boy seems like a fucking idiot, if he wants to run around causing trouble then leave the game and do that.

Talent aside, for someone coming up in the youth side, who skips training sessions, to try and bully the club on a contract is a right piss-take. I'm sure we haven't offered him a pittance.

Ravel Morrison is an idiot, straight from the horses mouth.

No matter how talented, he's still young and dumb. Can't help that.

Even the most intellectually-challenged person should be able to realise that if he takes a slightly smaller contract now and gets his head down, he'll be massively successful and rich in 5-10 years time.

We turned down a bid for Pienaar this morning apparently from QPR.

Harry said earlier today that he won't be leaving. He's a good player and now he's injury free he deserves a chance. Sell in the summer if need be.

But he's probably got a whole bad-boy entourage to look after and provide the latest H Samuel accessories for.

I've touched on it a little before, but once these youngsters get scouted and taken to camp isn't that basically all they do is play football? Is there a sort of 'school' inside the camp that they are required to attend and keep good marks?

When a young person gets told they can be a superstar and keeps getting told that, it clouds judgement sometimes.

And a girlfriend who is, what's the decorous word for it, a man-eater ?

It's still negligibly possible that he compromises with the club. But I'm fairly sure Ferguson stomping on his nuts and letting the whole world know he's a greedy lad is a bit too strong to be brinksmanship.

I'd hate to see the indecorous version.

Looking at that roster of talent I wonder why anyone would actively choose ProStar Sports Management. It's a one way ticket to fuck all.

You must have missed the fact that they represent one of the pre-eminent talents of our generation, Jermaine Beckford.

So, Serie A-GAF. Is Marin still a topic at Inter ? I think it would do him good to leave Werder. He is not exactly setting the world on fire there and he may greatly benefit from Sneijder's presence.

How do you feel about him btw? I've only seen YouTube junk but he looks the real deal to me

It's hard to say, since our league is shit, but he does have potential for greatness, yes.

He's a hard-working kid, always gives 110% on the pitch or at training. What I like most about him (besides his speed) is that he actually uses his head when playing, be it for assists, beating a man or scoring.

He isn't a headless chicken that just knows how to run forward full speed, like, for example, Milan Jovanovic.

Everton hero.

Such a shame. Why Preston of all teams? He should have stayed with Stevenage as they were really on a fantastic run through the lower leagues. He was pivotal to that.

In fairness to Preston they're a decent club that's come under hard times, and one problem they've had as a contributing factor to their decline is a pair of high profile managers, which in turn produces lofty expectations.

I'll declare that I grew up in Preston, so of course there's a level of bias there, even if I've never had any affection for the club itself.

But it is a club with some tradition, a moderately alright fanbase and a decent enough stadium. I can definitely see the appeal, as a manager, to move there. And there won't be the same level of expectation for Westley as there was for Ferguson and Brown.

That's the feeling I got from watching him. A speed merchant but with a good head on his shoulders as well. I'd love for this link to actually come to fruition. These days it seems like all the players that get the fans most excited are never the ones that come.

Everything you've said about Preston is absolutely bang on, Arnie. But its all overshadowed by their financial position.

They're in massive trouble, losing money hand over fist. That walking cancer Ridsdale was the death knell for them.

Its a strange one. It raises his profile obviously but im not sure its a job he can stick his teeth into as such. For Preston its a clear sign they're after a man experienced in getting results on a budget (or no budget).

So I'm led to believe by my Preston supporting mates. It's going to be hard for them to succeed whoever the manager if they have to sell their best players, such as Hume, to replace the money they're haemorrhaging on a weekly basis.

Only 4 PL clubs able to operate without owner support, MUFC, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool (now H+G debt repaid). Rest structurally loss making.

I'd like to think that number is going to grow from 4, but I really don't know how, or when, or with whom. When City grow into their money, I guess.

C+P from Guardian

Manchester United have worries over Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Anderson ahead of the visit of Bolton. Paul Scholes appears to have been missed off the list I've ctrl cee and veed below, but I assume he should be there.

Provisional squad: De Gea, Lindegaard, Amos, Rafael, Ferdinand, Evra, Jones, Fryers, Cole, Carrick, Valencia, Park, Anderson, Nani, Giggs, Rooney, Welbeck, Berbatov, Hernandez, Diouf, Keane.

Smalling and Anderson could really do with a run around. Shame if they don't get it.

Newcastle United are also close to becoming self-sufficient. This is good news. Getting rid of the likes of Xisco and Alan Smith with their massive wages would actually make a big difference overall (several million saved right there).

A truly depressing statistic.

Crap. I literally just wrote a big spiel about how I was surprised Newcastle wasn't on there. Deleted it because I thought my rambling wasn't really going anywhere. The only thing I could think of was the after effects of marquee signings like Owen still lingering on the wage bill.

Strikers aside, that looks so weak on paper. There are question marks in goal, defence and central midfield. That said, I expect they'll give Bolton an absolute twatting.

I see Pogba isn't in the squad. He had been a sub for the last few games and I thought he could have gotten a run out against Bolton.

And no Scholes either. United may left him off the team sheet by mistake or he's not fit enough to play 2 games in a week, which would be a worry.
