PS Vita US Launch Details (Launch Games, Accessory Pricing)

I thought about getting the buy.com early deal, but the 1-day shipping is the only option that makes getting it a week early worth it, and that's an extra 20...I could justify $350-$35 though, but the shipping stops me.

Their "Vita Rooms" are travelling the country and it seems they have some BIG names there - big football players, a top DJ and even Amir Kahn were there on just the first night. They've got people there with lots of twitter followers to tweet about it too. Seems they're putting a lot of effort in to get the word out on it.

Modnation Racers Vita will include a multiplayer vs. mode, despite reports stating that this would not be the case.


Sony have confirmed to us via email that “ModNation will indeed include multiplayer, but this will be possible via wifi only (not 3G), against up to three friends (Ad-Hoc head-to-head racing competition).”

There was no indication as to whether this will be patched in at release or added in a later date.

Modnation Racers for PS Vita is released as part of the launch line up on February 22nd. You can pre-order it here.

I thought Evolution were talking about looking into multiplayer. But that was when the game sounded a little way off. Maybe they left it out to make launch? No idea why, plenty of other games for launch, hold off (as much as I want it) and get multiplayer in there.

Maybe they'll patch it in?
 
4-player local-only multiplayer. Worthless.

Sony's insane if there's going to be a repeat of PSP, with most major games featuring local-only multiplayer. Every game that features any sort of multiplayer should feature online play.

Bend did a multiplayer-only Syphon Filter game on PSP. Maybe they can do something like that for Uncharted later this year.

It would be nice since I'm going to buy the retail version of Golden Abyss, to have just the multiplayer in flash storage.

And wasn't the multiplayer only game pretty cheap? Like $10 USD? I'd be down for a $10 Uncharted GA stand alone multiplayer expansion.
 
I don't like that Sony internally is confusing these different forms of multiplayer. The ad-hoc/infrastructure distinction was not only infuriating (because online was often missing), but really user-unfriendly too. Who the fuck knows what "infrastructure" means outside an IT department?

Ad-Hoc is still an important feature for a handheld. There are lots of situations where you don't have broadband and might want some multiplayer (backseat of a car, subway, etc). But I'm saying it now: AdHoc-Only does not count. It wasn't acceptable in 2005 and it's just embarrassing now. Adding 3G to the discussion only complicates the issue.

Sony really needed to solve this at the SDK-level. Make wifi-vs-adhoc transparent to the developer.

I felt the same way.
Ad-hoc and Infrastructure should have been Local and Online from the start.

It does seem like they are hitting a few cities with some marketing but I really don't think the awareness is there for the majority of the country. The idea of releasing a very expensive portable system after the biggest spending spree of the year is silly IMO. I just went to check on preorder numbers and a whopping 7 Vitas total are preordered at my local Gamestop. I think Gamestop just receiving their promo boxes and we are a month away. I went to preorder the wifi and the whole situation just scared me away.
 
sorry if i missed it, but is anyone else having problems ordering games from amazon with release date delivery? wipeout 2048 states it is available with release date delivery. when i put it in my shopping cart that delivery option is not there. i thought i would try this with hot shots golf since it too shows release date delivery. well, i throw it in the cart and there is no option for release date delivery. i cannot get any game for the vita that says it is available with release date delivery to actually have that option show in the shipping options.

They just started to adding those options to the accessories and games. Give them a few days to fix it.
Same thing happened with the actual units.

Went back into my order and was able to change to Release Day.

ok. i'll try it again next week. doubt there will be a shortage of games so no worries about it selling out. there's always psn if that happens anyway.


edit: ps, it seems like it is just the games at this point. my 16gb mem card ordered with release date delivery just fine.

Thanks for the heads up.

Still waiting on Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Hot Shots to get release delivery as well. I may just cancel those and get them on PSN. I know Hot Shots will be there day one, not so sure about UMvC.
