It's plum brandy.

Never occurred to me. Awesome! This will be mine:

Yeah shot's start to really hit me at around number 7. Mixed drinks 6 or so depending on the drink and how strong it's made. Considering I don't drink often and only get REALLY drunk maybe once a year and am scared away by the hangover for months I am surprised at my tolerance.

7? Sounds painful. 4-5 shots and I start feeling it, but it hits you like a hammer much later. Soooo bad. :( Yeah. I never really get hungover, but man I just feel bad/gross in general. I drink often, but never anywhere near the point of no return. Ugh. Even just thinking about it makes me want to chug water.

Blue Chimay is true Chimay.

Did you know there's a gold too though? It's myyyystical.

I no hear what you say, White all the way! But I had no idea there was a gold... MUST TRY IT. O_O

You need to go again with a different group! Did you eat anything good while you were there?

Like them both.

Next time you go to NYC, I'd advise a visit to Mayahuel. Many people consider Phil Ward to be the best bartender in NYC, and as the former head bartender of Death + Company, he was largely responsible for its reputation as one of the premier cocktail bars in the country. Now he's committed to tequila and mescal; if he can't convince you, no one else can.

Yeah. I was internally, silently devastated. It felt like such a waste. Ate no where particularly special, but we did stop outside French Laundry so I could lick the glass. THAT'S where I'd like to eat one day. One day soon, I hope.

I'll also check out your suggested drinking hole. I'm open to try it again. it's been over 10 years since that episode, so I guess I should try again. Ever been to Milk and Honey (seeing as you like amazing cocktails, it seems)?

Anyone ever have rakia/rakija? It's a fruit-based Balkan liquor that will really fuck you up. I should see if I can find any in California.

Haven't, but I had some pretty foul stuff in China and Borneo that will make your liver go into arrest. :)

I get headaches the morning after but only bad hangovers if I was blackout drunk which happens very rarely.

Strongest stuff I ever had was moonshine pure cane alcohol from mexico. A buddy would bring some with him in a water bottle when we went out. Burned like hell going down to the point where i had tears in my eyes. Took two shots and almost didn't get into the club cause of my stumbling. I didn't drink anymore that night but keeps getting progressively more drunk for hours after I stopped drinking. that stuff was nuts. Wasn't till later when he brought the bottle around that I noticed it was the damn rubbing alcohol my mom would bring from mexico when I was a kid. Will admit though it was a great buzz and no hangover at all since I only needed to drink very little.

Speak not its vile name!!!! ;_;

Haha, I was in a hostel in Xian, and somehow I ended up in a room with a bunch of young bros. So we went out to the liquor store, and of course they had plastic flasks of the stuff for some ridiculously small amount of yuan. We should have stuck with beer.

My dad bought two bottles of this to bring back to the states: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mao_tai

Every once in a while he brings it out and trolls dinner guests. He says it tastes like cherries.

Huh, wikipedia says:
Maotai has been used on official occasions in feasts with foreign heads of state and distinguished guests visiting China. It is the only alcoholic beverage presented as an official gift by Chinese embassies in foreign countries and regions.
That's actually the reason I tried it in the first place. What the hell, China. Maybe just stay away from liquor production

Yes, you should have. Awful stuff. I had to teach at one of the more rural schools for the weekend of one of my working stints in Hangzhou, and the first night there I had to go to a big dinner with every important person in town (mayor, chief of police, etc), and we did the traditional toast-greeting for everyone... all 23 people. I was cross-eyed by the end but wouldn't give them the satisfaction of falling down. I was still drunk a day and half later...

I lived in Xi'an for a month. Wasn't old enough to go out without my parents though :P

Is that still like $20 a bottle?
Well, if you wanted to get it in the States, you'd have to find someone from Belgium to resell their allocation. I wouldn't be surprised if it was more than $20 per bottle, but I haven't tried.

I can't find it at the local liquor stores or Whole Foods... there's a place called World of Beer nearby with about 100 kinds, but they've only ever had 8. :(
That's too bad. Certain Whole Foods do carry it, but specialty wine/liquor stores are usually your best bet.

There's a lot of really great food in that area. I'm sure your next trip will be better!

The French Laundry is pretty special. Per Se operates on the same level (perhaps a tad better), but there's something about TFL that doesn't translate to an urban setting. Make sure to go with someone special.

Milk & Honey is sort of a semi-private club. Unless you know a member, I don't know if I'd recommend it. Mayahuel for tequila and mescal, Death + Company and PDT for more variety.

You might find the New York City (NYC) Restaurant Recommendations thread useful. I really need to fix the OP though...

I had a really fun time there, except for the time when I almost got punted 50 feet by a bus that plowed through a red light with no regard for human life.

I usually go with ultra 1. There's a way to do it that catches them after an EX shoryuken but I feel like the window became a lot smaller in AE.

Didn't you say you were a scrub?

This does not sound like a scrub discussing a fighting game. I've never heard a scrub talking about windows for attacks.

I do okay with fighting game theory. Putting it in to practice is hard.

It's like the episode of Futurama where Fry goes to the robot devil and finds out he can't play a musical instrument because he suffers from Stupid Fingers. That's how I am with fighting games. When the heat is on, I suddenly forget how to do quarter circles and lose my cool.

When theory starts getting to stuff like frame data is when it loses me there.

I actually do that as well! I've slowly been getting rid of it but it shows up with a vengeance when I get tired.

I've always sucked at Street Fighter. For some reason I am much better at Soul Calibur and Tekken. Not sure what it is, but those games just click with me better. I played a pretty damn good Sophitia back in the day.

I was actually pretty good when I was younger since all I did was play SFII and Killer Instinct with my dad's friends when I was younger. I'm pretty confident my 4 year old self could kick my ass at SFIV so I have to work myself back into comfortable position where I don't freak out when I think I need to do something quickly.

my favorite character in a fighting game is voldo

I struggled against skilled Voldo players more than anything else for awhile. His rhythms and movements are just so fucking... weird. I could never consistently Guard Impact his attacks, which wasn't the case for most other characters.

My Soul Calibur strategy:

1. Pick Mitsurugi
2. VERTICAL VERTICAL VERTICAL BACK+HORIZONTAL VERTICAL
3. Mitsurugi wins!

it also works for Kilik if you replace vertical with horizontal and back with forward
