The last thing I need to listen to is advice about the Super Bowl from an Eagles fan.

I am not telling you anything about the SB, even though the Eagles have been there way more recently then Man U's funding department, I am just talking about trying to make some kind of sense. I understand that is a lot to ask of you though.

Are you really trying to compare San Fransisco's defense to one of the all time great defenses that carried Trent Dilfer to the Super Bowl? Seriously man? Are you truly not aware of how good that defense was?

That was a great D, but the O was actually ranked 16, and they did a great job of giving the D a rest and not making costly turnovers. You really dont think the 9ers D this year is great? I dont think this years 9ers compare to the Ravens D when they won the SB, but if you compare them to the rest of the league they are really good. My point anyways was that it is funny to say small hands is Dilfer, when Dilfer won a SB. Small hands wishes he could be as good as Dilfer was.

Nope. You can only hide Alex Smith's true nature for so long. He is Trent Dilfer reborn. Unfortunately you guys dont have a defense anywhere near as good as the Ravens did. It's good, but not good enough to carry Smith any further. Especially against a team that is going to put pressure on him to score TD's instead of FG's.

lets compare dilfers superbowl winning season with alex's season.

134/226, 1,502 yards, 12 TD's, 11 int's, 76.6 QB rating

273/445, 3,144 yards, 17 TD's, 5 int's, 90.7 QB rating

i'll let you guess which is which. the mistake people make with alex is that in many peoples minds, as a winning qb you are either trent dilfer or peyton manning: if you put up big #'s with lots of yards and TD's, you're manning. If you win without gigantic #'s, you are trent dilfer. the truth is alex is somewhere in between. even the biggest alex supports will admit he's not an elite qb. but only a fucking idiot would say he is trent dilfer reincarnated

FCC to review blackout rules for all sports:

WASHINGTON—Federal regulators plan to consider whether it is time to dump rules that require cable and satellite TV providers to black out sports games if local teams don't sell out their arenas or stadiums.

On Thursday the Federal Communications Commission asked for comment on whether it should eliminate the sports blackout rules for cable and satellite TV.
In November, a coalition of consumers groups and a cable-funded advocacy group asked the agency to jettison the rules, calling them the result of "anti-fan, anti-consumer behavior by professional sports leagues."

Cable and satellite providers are currently barred from airing local sporting events if TV broadcasters face blackout restrictions because games didn't sell out. The agency said Thursday it would look into claims that the rule should be eliminated because they "prevent consumers' access to local sports events, particularly with ticket prices and unemployment at their current high levels."

"This is a huge victory today for sports fans across the country. Finally, the business of blackouts will face scrutiny from the government," said Brian Frederick, executive director of the Sports Fans Coalition, an advocacy group that has pushed for lifting blackout rules. The group has received funding from pay-TV providers Time Warner Cable Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc., which would benefit from a lifting of the ban.

Congress created TV blackout rules for sports broadcasters in 1961. The FCC later imposed the rule on cable and satellite providers in response to complaints from the National Football League and others to that the rules should be similar for all stations.

The NFL and other professional sports leagues have generally opposed lifting blackout rules, arguing that they help teams sell seats for home games.

The NFL also has said that without the rule cable and satellite providers would have more leverage in negotiations with broadcasters for retransmission rights. Last summer, the league told the FCC in a filing that lifting the blackout rule "would gut the purpose of the rule and create perverse incentives for [pay-TV providers] to engage in brinkmanship tactics in order to take advantage of the proposed exception to the sports blackout rule."

The FCC will accept comments on whether it should change the rules until mid-February.

All that shows is just how much better the Ravens D was to carry Dilfer and just how soft the NFL has gone to make every passer seem decent no matter how small their hands are.

I love the playoffs, the games are better and the trolling is much better.

So basically since Alex is 2x better than Dilfer he only needs a defense at least half as good to win it all?

Superbowl #6 here we come!

not all qb's can succeed in todays passer friendly NFL :(

LOL. I cant even imagine what the NFL's argument for keeping the blackouts will be.

Hey congress we are only making $10 billion a year, if people can stay home we will go bankrupt for sure.

Key point on this is cable advocacy group.

The FCC hearing this is just posturing populist crap. All the problems with the telecom industry and media consolidation and they waste time with this garbage. From like a political standpoint I don't think there should be a law enforcing blackouts, but just as a football fan, if your team doesn't sell out, you don't deserve to watch the games

Speaking of media and politics, I find it crazy that Rupert Murdoch has a Twitter account

Normally disapprove of casinos, but hitting 16s and 17s lot of fun. To hell with theories!

Why is every tweet thought to conspiratorial or sexual. I was talking blackjack. Give me a break

You forgot about one crucial stat:

Games Started:

Alex Smith-16

Trent Dilfer-8

That's why you also have to compare their two best seasons, which for Dilfer was something like 2500 20 and 10. Doesn't matter either way, neither of them could survive in the league the way it is now.

don't be. Even though I've criticized Alex for most of his career...as well as this year...I don't think he is nervous himself. So if Alex isn't nervous, neither should you be.

He knows his job this game....his game managing ability will come in handy in this game.

our defense will keep everything in front of them and allow the Saints to go on their usual 70+ yard dink and dunk drives...but hopefully the leagues best redzone defense holds them to fieldgoals. Along the way on these types of drives we will hopefully get some tip passes, missed passes, and fumbles. We'll see.

And hopefully we catch them for some big plays, on some of the blitzes they send us....and if its not there...fine punt it and make them work for it again.

if they can beat us with this approach (and it worked for them against the Colts in the SuperBowl) then so be it. But I don't think that will happen. I think there will be opportunities for us to capitalize on.

I'm pumped up man.....fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu can't f'ing wait!

Haha, I was reading your post while saying to myself, "damn this sounds like something I just read on the SSF." Then when I checked the user name, it is you!

but it will be hard.

For the 49ers to upset the Saints, all indications are they are going to have to get a fairly productive game from quarterback Alex Smith. While New Orleans gives up 4.9 yards per carry in the run game, that stat is misleading.
49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman said the yards per carry is a result of innocuous 30-yard runs by the opposition at the end of blowout Saints wins. Also, the Saints' run defense improved greatly in the second half of the season, when they smothered the likes of Michael Turner (39 yards), Chris Johnson (23 yards) and Adrian Peterson (60 yards).

Meanwhile the 49ers no longer possess the potent running attack that once saw Frank Gore rip off five straight games of 100 yards rushing or more. Gore hasn't reached the century mark since Nov. 6.

But the Saints do allow yards in the passing game. New Orleans led the league in allowing pass plays of 40 yards or more with 14. Not only that, the blitz-mad Saints might be playing right into what Smith does best, and that's beat pressure. Smith's passer rating against the blitz this year is 96.3, which trails only Aaron Rodgers (131.4) and Tom Brady (110.9). Eight of his 17 touchdown passes and only one of his five picks were against the blitz.

Behind Smith, the 49ers are actually offensively potent at home. They averaged nearly 30 points (29.9) at home, which is fourth highest in the league.

Like Brees, Smith takes advantage of checks at the line and the ability to change the offense in the serene surroundings of friendly Candlestick Park.

"Obviously crowd noise plays into that, especially on third down when you're trying to throw the ball on the road," Smith said. "Anywhere you go you're going to be dealing with crowd noise. So at home, to be able to use the cadence and be able to communicate a little easier, verbally obviously helps. I think that might play into it."

Conversely, only 18 of Brees' 46 touchdown passes have come on the road because much of what Brees does is make last-second adjustments before the snap, which, as Smith notes, are more difficult to make in loud stadiums.

It would therefore not be completely surprising if Smith out-passed Brees on Saturday and, in fact, that's what happened last year at Candlestick Park. Brees passed for 254 yards and two scores in the Saints 25-22 win, while Smith threw for 275 yards and no scores.

The difference? Smith threw damming interceptions.

We also said it would be hard for the Broncos to win.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck i'm nervous for tomorrows game

Welcome to my last Saturday which will be my tomorrow again.

Hey Bob, if you're around.... root for the 49ers today!! :P

Oh man I am not going to get anything done today. I am watching sporting events from 12:30pm to ~11pm.

But who cares! Not me!

(Until tonight when I'll feel terrible for being so lazy).

Oh me of little faith.

I put money on the Patriots today. Tebow forgive me.

What line did you get? They replayed their earlier meeting today on NFLN and the Broncos were right in that game. If Tebow had just made a few more plays, and the offense not turned the ball over 3 straight times they could have won. I am not understanding why the Pats are such big favorites in this game.

Speaking of games I finally got around to playing Uncharted 3, and god damn does it get good towards the end. I think it is easily the best of the 3.

The Patriots won on the road by 18 points after giving up 167 rushing yards in the first quarter.

The Broncos have played no one really that noteworthy on the road and have been out scored by 81 points on the season.

Say what you want about the Broncos turning it over but the Patriots didn't play that well in the game either.

What is there to get?

Some people on Buy/Sell/Trade thread were selling it for 30 but I have other (older) games I'm playing right now, some rpgs that will take some time. By the time I'm done maybe I can get it cheaper.

But ugh, so many coming out also that I want. Tales of Graces, XIII-2, Mass Effect 3, Armored Core V. Still want to pick up Skyrim eventually too.

Can't wait 'til the "summer drought" so I can get caught up like I do every year.

I gotta get around to playing Uncharted 2 someday. Next on my agenda is (finally) Batman AC.

Speaking of Skyrim, I dunno what happened. I just stopped playing one day and never went back. Oh well, I got 60 hours out of it, $1 per hour of gameplay is my sweet spot.

BTW I finally beat Orcs Must Die. Good game, tho I am a sucker for tower defense games. It gets a little ridiculous towards the end.

Should you ever acquire sc2, maybe we can talk corran into some tower defense and create an unholy nfl-sc2 tower defense alliance.

That second quarter broke their backs. Pats are healthy this time, are at home, and can score fast enough to make it hard for Denver to catch up. They are the better team on paper, and showed it in the last meeting. Turnovers were a big part of that but looking back the Pats defense stepped up and forced them irc. I think Denver's best chance to win is to bury them from the beginning and not look back. A close game doesn't favor them in this match up imo.

There's something about the story that really doesn't work for me. The set pieces are great but the overall flow of the story just seems too segmented from the previous two games.
