PS Vita US Launch Details (Launch Games, Accessory Pricing)

Comes out on 6th of March which is actually two weeks after, my mistake. Still not far after launch though

Even so, that's sooner than I was expecting! Thanks for the info!

March 6th should give me enough time to play some of the stuff I'm getting at launch, and maybe scrounge up some more money! lol.

EDIT: I have this thing when it comes to consoles/handhelds, where I require at least 5 games of interest in order for me to purchase the product. These 5 titles don't necessarily have to release on launch, just somewhere down the line.

Looking at my anticipated Vita list of games, I'm well over 5, and those are releasing at least on launch and within a month of launch. That's unheard of for me. When I bought my PS2, I think I only had Oni and Smuggler's run. For my PS3, I had Resistance, Virtua Fighter 5, and PSN titles. For my 360, I had Mass Effect and Bioshock (wasn't interested in Gears or Halo). Naturally, I picked up more titles a few months later, as they released.

For the Vita, I'm planning on picking up sometime between the 15th of Feb, and the end of March:

Uncharted: GA
Rayman Origins
Super Stardust Delta
Escape Plan
Shinobido 2
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Unit 13
Gravity Daze/Rush
Wipeout 2048

and maybe ModNation Racers

That's just within the first month! It's crazy. As a long time gamer, I've never experienced a console that had so much I wanted at such an early period. Feels good, man.

I was just thinking about if we ever get to play PS2 Classics on Vita, and I can't think of any alternatives for L2&R2 :(.
How was this handled by the PSOne Classics !? Did they let you like press SELECT or something !?

You mean how was it handled by the games that you can't play on the Vita yet? It wasn't.

But yeah, rear panel sounds good to me.

i seem to remember some ps1 games only supporting ps3 and not psp. it could have been because of this. i have no idea.

[don't hurt me if i'm wrong]

To be honest, I'm more concerned about the lack of Phantasy Star Portable titles than the PSX games. They would've been so great with Vita's wifi support.

No, I meant how it was handled on the PSP !?

Huh, I forgot about the rear touching panel, that will work, I hope.

You set either the dpad or the analog nub for character motion and use the other one for L2 (left), R2 (right), or L2+R2 (up).

Good Morning US Gaffers! Have you got any info about Gravity Daze retail version? Unfortunately Eu will get only Digital Delivery version and no one said anything about US leaving some hope to the ones will eventually import from USA

I think it was kind of confirmed that the PSN-only release will be limited to EU.

I asked Yoshida, and he implied retail/PSN for North America.

With all my devices (tablets, smartphones) with touch screen I found out that screen protectors only do the following:
- turn the image worst;
- reduce the sensibility of the touch screen (like it adds a friction to your thumb);
- keep getting dirty.

And yes, I was using ZAG proctetors. Still have some sealed for my phone. Unless the screen is very small (like iPhone 3.5" small screen) the protector adds those problems, and I decided to remove them from my devices. Of course, Gorilla Glass are really strong, I do not know the quality of the VITA screen (is it plastic???)

I think the Vita screen is plastic.

I've used the Hori screen protectors for PSP 1000/2000 and the GO. I didn't notice much, if any loss in IQ. The iPod-Touch on the other had had terrible IQ loss.

I just want to play it safe.. If user reviews say otherwise. I may go without one.

Thanks. So looking at that site, I could get a Vita bundle for less than £200? That's minus shipping, though.
Vita Bundle with 8 GB mem card and Little Deviants + shipping is $364.96CDN for me to Austria. Shipping is 45 CAD.

So 365 CAD is 233 Pounds (google conversion).

Edit: The question is if customs are more alert during this time because they know that Vita is launching or something like that xD

Worth the risk though? A memory card and game would set you back way further than £233. And I see good things about their shipping time so I might jump.

The problem is that I cannot give you a guarantee that it will slip through customs! Some (many?) of GAF have ordered consoles from them and I cannot remember one instance where the person had to pay customs. I didn't look which courier it was, but my PS3 arrived in about 3 to 4 days (Canada to Austria).

USA Gaffers I need some help! I'm heading to Miami next month, so I will be in America when the Vita launches. Currently I'm debating to get a Vita here in Holland or in the US when I go there. Retail prices in Holland for the Vita are € 249; $ 249 equals about € 200 though. So is it wise to get one here, or in the US? Considering warranty and stuff like that. And the $ 249 does that include taxes or not? Plus, what is the best store to get one in the US? Are there any promotions confirmed yet, like buy 3 games for 2 or something?

Thanks!

Sales tax varies by county and state, but according to this the rate is 7% in Miami.

A store like Best Buy is probably the best place to walk in and pick up a Vita.

I know this is the moment you've all been waiting for: the cradle is up for preorder on amazon.

remote play lets you use rear panel for L2/R2/L3/R3. Top left is L2, bottom left is L3, top right is R2, bottom right is R3.

Nice idea, but I found myself triggering them accidentally. For me at least if I hold it comfortably my fingers overlap the rear touch panel. If I play a game where I'm forced to use the rear panel, I end up holding it a little too close to the edges for comfort.

alternatively you can opt for select+L1 = L2, select+R1=R2. I never even tried that, as the select button is flush and quite hard to press so I don't know if that'd work well or not.

Wait a minute.....Rayman Origins is a launch game?

I didn't even know there was gonna be a Vita version. It will probably look absolutely gorgeous on Vita....
It is in the US and EU, but there isn't a date set for the Japanese release, damn it.

Also, does anyone know why the Japanese thread has been closed? The Vita-licking gifs ended like 2 pages ago.

I was just wondering the same thing why it was closed.

The last pages seemed pretty OnT, if it was for the vita licking gif, that's a bit much isn't it?

Why is Dungeon Hunter Alliance(Dark Quest) $40 over here? Wasn't it pretty cheap in Japan when it launched?

Seems like a bit much if they are the same exact game.

Pricing outside Japan seems a bit weird to be honest. I don't mean the actual prices, since the yen is crazy high right now, but rather about the difference between PSP and Vita game prices (I think the Vita ones are actually cheaper, especially the download versions) which is noticeable here in Japan.

Guess I killed the Jp launch topic by posting screenshots from a free game about making friends and asking about a sticker. :(

I had finished writing my reply about that saying something like placing a piece of clear tape over it so that it doesn't rub off/tear away.
I did the same with old DS systems.

Soon as I hit post it was locked.

Yeah, it crossed my mind but I thought it wouldn't work. Tried it after your post and so far it's fine - thanks!

Alright. I've officially pre-ordered the Wifi model from Gamestop. With all the credit and giftcards I had, it wound up being about $190 worth.

Where's the best place to pre-order a US Vita for import to the UK? The price difference might just be worth it.
It's not worth it. After the VAT, the price difference is only about $50, and shipping will eat most if not all the savings. You might save the tax if the package sneaks through customs but that minimal savings isn't worth losing warranty service.

You can't get warranty service on a NA system in the UK.

So I just won a 300€ Fnac gift card, free Vita here I go!

Now I just need to decide which memory card I'll buy on launch and wait for Sony to announce Euro retail version of Gravity Daze.

Yeah, I know.

On PSP, R2/L2 is generally mapped to analog right, analog left... if analog was used for movement, you could use the left and right on the d-pad... on Vita I imagine they'd use the back touch pad for that...

I won't hurt you, but you are wrong. All the Playstation games on PSN are supported on both systems.
