The show makes it pretty clear she's piloting the Vox Aura because it shot her in the ass when she was drowning 10 years ago and she remembers that she's more or less bound to it, and it to her now. Though she wasn't privy to the conversation, when they were talking about it in the control room, they specifically said that once "Memoria" is established between Vox and pilot, only that person can pilot it from that point forward.

I get some Xenoglossia vibes from the relationship that Madoka has with her giant robot. I'm guessing this robot won't be Madoka's boyfriend though.
Though, I guess you could say it was fate too based on what you've said. I think the past events, when explained, will say more about that. I also heard there's a prequel manga out or something too.

I guess i'll wait for more backstory (if that happens) to really see what's up though.

You're missing the point. The reasoning/motivation for why Madoka agrees to pilot it in the first place is implied, not why she can pilot it.

She agrees to pilot it because she knows she was meant to. This is strongly implied in the first episode, she agrees to do it after she touches Imber Vox Aura the first time and her memory of getting shot in the ass 10 years ago is triggered.

Rinne no Lagrange 1

Fun first episode. I really liked some of the choices made in the first episode that kept the spirit of the whole thing pretty high.

Arguably, you can rule out it's not fate based on the conversation in the command room, but it is too early to say where the story will be heading.

That was to give reason to why she, specifically, could only pilot it and not everyone else. Not the reason why she agrees to pilot it. She knowing she was meant to pilot it isn't a reason she or the show gives.

Rinne no Lagrange 2

It is nice to have a character that's not entirely angst, and/or revenge based, as awesome as they are when done right, but the flipside is kind of annoying. There's no rhyme or reason to Madoka's actions, no motivation, and it's making the whole show seem incredibly awkward. She's told to do, and she does with a giggle, smile, and a knock on the head.

In one sense, it's the more natural of portrayals; a 14-15 year old girls against an interstellar organization is going to have almost no say, and get but the most filtered of info, but she doesn't even ask for that much. She's not just genki, she's dull.

How similar is this show to Stellvia?

Yeah, i suppose i'll just wait and see on this one. I have a feeling something of it will probably be said after
these first conflicts/battles are over with, and we get our first episode of release.

I hope you remember love when alls said and done. Look what happened to this poor fellow.
Haha. I'm excited!

Speaking of which, those still saying Madoka received
the mark on her ass from Vox-Aura might be disappointed because in Episode 1, you can see her touching an area above her waist behind her back, which might be where the mark is instead, after she experiences a flashback with Vox-Aura.

We'll see.

If we're talking Rinne no Lagrange, in episode 2 I was more impressed with how
Madoka somehow got a better cellphone signal when she was in a mecha several dozen meters underwater than when she was on the floating base earlier. Hell, I can barely get two bars in my apartment sometimes
.

That's actually not very unusual. Do you get a better signal out in an open field, or indoors in the basement of a shopping mall? Same concept.

I should also note that the base is pretty far offshore, while the "middle of the ocean" would actually be closer to the shore. Makes perfect sense! :D

The base is far enough offshore that no cell network signals ought to be able to reach it. So unless one of Japan's cell providers has thoughtfully placed a tower on the floating base, Madoka shouldn't get a signal anywhere really, at the base itself or in the open ocean around the base. But as with all media, you only get cell phone signal in anime when it's necessary for the Long Arm of the Plot.

Or you know, in this universe they created... They have better cellular/cell-phone technology that reaches beyond what us petty mortals have for coverage right now.

Not true. The signal is just really bad indoors. She even said that there was one bar for a short moment after she got out of the room. Also, Yoko had no problem getting a reception because she was outdoors on one of the balconies. There's really nothing strange or contrived at all about this particular scenario here.

Also, the base isn't really as far offshore as you might think:

I might agree they share some of the same traits, but they are distinctively different characters because of their characterization in their respective shows. Kenshi's character is actually rather unique for a harem protagonist, so the comparison between him and Madoka comes off absurd for me. Their reactions from gratitude are wholly different. The episode where Kenshi works for the school as a contractual laborer under Lashara makes it even more obvious.

Also, she's far from Kenshi-level of perfect. Until the show says otherwise, she's talented but isn't master talent level like Kenshi is.

I'll agree their characterization is different and that's mainly why I like Madoka much more than Kenshi (although I did like Kenshi initially). My main point is that having a happy-go-lucky lead and who is good at everything can get annoying very fast if not handled properly. This is mainly because there seems to be a disconnect between the scale and responsibilities of their actions. That's somewhat why I like Shinji even if he takes it to the extreme.

True, she's not as god-tier as Kenshi was but she's still very exceptional at pretty much everything we've seen her do. The only time we saw her lose was in that Kendo match but her opponent was extremely good in that the captain's won multiple tournaments.

Either way I have a feeling that this will be a non-issue in regards to perfection in the next episode as she'll be in trouble and need someone else to bail her out. However I'm just hoping they don't limit her personality to the genki girl aspect.

Gurren Lagann - 09

NOOOOOOOOO!!
OP change, that means episode 8 really happened. T_T

Aquarion EVOL - 03

I wonder how many episodes it will take for me to stop coming back to it. >_<

Maggie was awesome, and it always annoyed me that Kaiyodo did figures of Anita (which they packed with the DVD in the US) and Michelle but no Maggie. Makes the set look incomplete.

I'm pretty sure the figure that came with the US DVD was the Yujin SR DX figure of Anita (did Kaiyodo actually do an Anita figure? Serious question, I can't remember) - in which case, I hate to break it to you, but...

I seem to own a Maggie figure which doesn't exist ^^;

Gintama - 242

Loads of awesome Dragon Ball Z references. I approve.

The animators at Sunrise must have gotten a beat down from the powers at be. They took no chances this time around.

Enter Nia.

So sickly sweet, so naive to the world, and she seems to have taken her
abandonment by her father
rather well.

I find characters with shapes for pupils so hypnotic.

Maggie was the best. Dat paper bird. Also she had the best fight in the tv series.

Damn, that doesn't look good. Blur censors>black bar censors. That's definitely going to affect future episodes :(

As Dave said, watch ep 11 now!

Well crap. Now I need to find it somewhere...

That's right, the only contrived part of the scenario is how
it takes like ten minutes for the alien dude to catch up with Madoka.

So finished Penguindrum. Really mixed on this.

I've read arguments about all the symbolism and I'm not sure if I approve of the general message, mainly that being love is about sacrifice. I also hate memory wipes. It ruins character progression and is a small step below "It's all a dream". As a whole Penguindrum has some faults as well, mainly due to all the fakeouts. The show would have been much better served limiting those. Also some plot-threads really seem underdeveloped and the first half seems like such a waste in comparison to the second half.

Also well done gg, I laughed.

The censor gets even stranger a few seconds later.

It just seems odd and out of place. When you watch the scene you can tell there was no need for even a blur censor. Almost seems like it was put there for a joke.

Gintama 242

I feel like I would have gotten more out of this if I had watched Dragonball, but it was still amusing to see the insanity spiral out of control and then come back around to a sweet ending, in true Gintama style.

Natsume S4 3

Really nice episode, with a lot of good atmosphere moments and Natsume-youkai bonding (and more bathservice!). Those balls of hair are just so adorable.

Glad to see these students aren't letting being in a horror story keep them from being well-adjusted.

Anyway, it was more atmosphere building: creepy dolls, dark places, spooky music, all the sorts of things that make you feel a slasher villain is going to leap out of the corner any second. I don't have faith in the direction of this show and I would drop it, but
I have to see what's under that eyepatch, even though it probably won't be worth it.

Another - 02

Tried too hard bringing in all the horror elelments and just ended up being boring, but at least she's revealing what is behind the eyepatch next week.
I bet it's something lame like ANOTHER EYE but DIFFERENT COLOURED OMG!!

Just letting you guys know that I'm turning in my mancard for review and possible termination.

I can't marathon Sailor Moon. Before you repossess my balls, please recall that I successfully marathon'd RahXephon, Black Lagoon, Macross (everything), Yu Yu Hakusho, Lain, Last Exile, Full Metal Panic (everything), Baccano, Crest/Banner of The Stars, and LOGH. This last failure does not define me.

And yet it is what you shall be forever remembered for.

Another - 2

Just not interesting enough yet. They built on the town atmosphere and the music set the mood pretty well but the plot hasn't really been all that interesting so far. Maybe it's the type of show that'll get more interesting towards the middle.

Eyepatch reveal should be cool I guess, though it'll be disappointing if its like a doll's eye or something

Nothing of relevance happened until the last five minutes. I don't need for everything to have a frenetic pace, but this goes beyond atmosphere building. It's boring. At least I have Gokujyo to look up to on Mondays. what the fuck it got postponed?!

The Gokujyo—. ~Gokurakuin Joshi Kōryō Monogatari~ anime series did not premiere as scheduled on the Chukyo TV station on Monday. Instead, the station ran an apology, explaining that the first episode could not be aired. Chukyo TV also announced that it plans to start the series with the second episode next week. The official website and Twitter account for the anime had been running reminders of the anime's premiere as recently as six hours before the scheduled broadcast on Monday.

FUCK YOU
