No, you're not done learning from the mountain yet.
Indeed, hoping for much more from episode two, something, anything to reaffirm a currently wavering faith!I agree, the first episode of season two was somewhat disappointing, considering how good the first season was (and it was quite good). I mean, it was amusing at times, but it wasn't as good as Milky Holmes often was in the first season, and the apparent plot reset was kind of frustrating as well. Hopefully it gets better.
The manga's 4koma style seemed to lend better to the delivery of the humor of the series than in continuous anime form. Agreed that the series as a whole isn't wholly that noteworthy to begin with though. You thought that the manga is better, really? I think that it's pretty similar to the manga, and the problem just is that the manga wasn't that great to begin with... it's moderately amusing sometimes, but often stupid and mediocre. The manga's the same way.
Sure, don't think we could have anime if the characters didn't follow a bit of conventionYeah, this is the best new series so far this year, I agree. It's a good series, and so much fun to watch. I love the tone and feel of the series, too.
I definitely do like her character overall, but she's not entirely different.
Agreed. Though the maid café situation itself was a lot less pandering than feared, that with the shows general lack of fanservice (HS girls in zero G still stay classy!) which means good things for the series. As for tropes... ep. 1 had some (maid cafe?), but both parts of ep. 2 were different for sure, yes. It's not just another entirely cliche anime, it's something more interesting than that.
Uh, I really disliked both Onegai Teacher and Onegai Twins, so I'm far from sure I want to watch this show...
That's about where my rating of the series is at right now. There is no doubt that Pirates has the greater potential and is the more interesting show at the moment. Though Lagrange does have the advantage that it at least satisfies with the mecha action immediately.I think you like Lagrange a bit more than me then. I mean, it's decent to good, but Pirates is clearly better.
It might be your fault for expecting something like Toradora out of AnoNatsu though. Given the pedigree, feel and style, we can definitely tell what the series is going for, and it's decidedly different from a series like Toradora.Hmm. Well the first episode didn't really grab me at all but I guess we'll see. As of now though, I'm thinking Toradora was just a fluke.

Isn't it too late for filler type episodes like this? And was it just me, or was the art really off? Got flashbacks to TTGL 4.
I don't really understand why they'd pick up Galaxy Express 999, a show no-one has heard of. Moreover I really don't understand why it's a disc release - the show is a 112 episodes long, they're just looking to lose money on something like that. If they were putting it up for streaming that might be a different matter.
so the best show this season is an anime about space pirates in skirts?
I thought the second episode was pretty straightforward but two episodes without mecha, titts or moe is maybe too much for some people here

I don't think this show is doing me good at all, because from now on whenever I see a whiny, spineless, bitchy character who does nothing but hates himself, I'm going to be filled with hope, a hope that this show has given me for that character type, a hope that would only dissapoint me further when watching shows like Evangelion or Guilty Crown, because at the back of mind I'll start to think "They could pull a Simon at x point" only for that ray of hope to be snuffed out because harems don't fall for manly men with a spine or something.

I think I just noticed this at the same time you did. Think I might have tracked it down -- apparently it was the B-side track on the single release for the Death and Rebirth theme song "Soul's Refrain". Death & Rebirth was the one thing I skipped over when marathoning the series, though, so I wouldn't remember it.
The only reason I remember that song is because it was in one of the Eva soundtracks. It was never used in the series nor did it sound very much like Evangelion.I think I just noticed this at the same time you. No, blind wheelchair hnnng.
Im not using moe anymore because people dont understand what the fuck it means.
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah this sounds awful.Ah, here's the new version. Looks like this one was sung by Asuka's seiyuu, Yūko Miyamura.
Personally I believe you should stand your ground. Understand that you are in the minority in knowing what the term moe means. You have to swallow your pride and put your self in their shoes. They don't have your affection (non-sexual obviously) for cute things. When a picture of Rin, for example, is posted it likely won't catch that persons eye. They definitely won't be inclined to read the post which says "Rin is so moe!".
If the above situation was a persons first introduction to the term "moe" I believe they'd have less chance of misinterpreting it's meaning. That's just not the way it works though. Much of the time "moe" is applied to a picture of some 14 year old girl who's designed to be sexually appealing (if only minimally). Why else would their skirts be so short? Not that it's really a problem as the target audience is likely (I'll try to give the benefit of the doubt) 14-16 year old males.
Here lies the problem. An older male walks in and sees said pictures. This guy still has sex on the brain so those pictures will in some form trigger those thoughts, he's only human so you can't blame him. Since the picture makes an impression he reads the post and sees the word "moe". Now the word moe is synonymous with sexual attraction. When that person sees "moe" applied to a picture of Rin, how can you expect him not to think pedophile?
Honestly I see the meaning of "Hnnngg" becoming twisted just as moe is, if not all ready. That's the way it rolls. If you want people to under stand your point of view, stand firm and politely correct their error. Some will attack your point of view. At those times, more than ever, you need to stay calm and collected. Chances are they will come to have a better understanding in the long run.
It helps that Toei's already commissioned a complete set of English subtitles for Galaxy Express 999, as seen on the various sites that have been streaming it for free viewing for the past few years. S'More Entertainment will really only need to pay the DVD/packaging production costs.I'm sure they picked up the license for very little and will slap together one of those cheap DVD sets that crowd the bargain bins at Walmart. That's what "S'More Entertainment" seems to specialize in, judging by their website. One of their prominent advertisements is for "A Big Box of Cowboys, Aliens, Robots, and Death Rays".
Except that isn't a common example of where the misunderstanding occurs. You have an outdated definition that's still prevalent when people look for one, and it doesn't help either that the most moe girls and boys tend to be in their adolescence.Personally I believe you should stand your ground. If a person wishes, they're free to try and explain the concept of moe (either here or via PM) to me.

The fact I don't have an understanding of what moe is proves part of my point. It is not understood. I really have little desire to try and comprehend a Japanese concept. That is one reason why I tend to stay out of the moe discussion.
That said, I still encourage people to try and correct the interpretation of what moe is. Giving up and stopping the use of the term will only make things worse in the long run.
If a person wishes, they're free to try and explain the concept of moe (either here or via PM) to me. I'm curious to see how one would present their argument and how accessible it is to people with a fairly closed mind.
I've always thought moe was a term to refer to cute things, non-sexualized. I'm not sure if you can call someone a pedophile for referring to a young girl as "moe". Same way you would call your 10 year old sister cute if she changed her hairstyle or something.
