Gaia Gundam Arjuna 4

Maybe it's just me but I really don't think it's a good idea to take health tips from a crazy old man living alone in a fucking mountain. Please tell me there are more of these hilarious PSA's to look forward too.

No, you're not done learning from the mountain yet.

Yay to have my long post combed through by someone~

I agree, the first episode of season two was somewhat disappointing, considering how good the first season was (and it was quite good). I mean, it was amusing at times, but it wasn't as good as Milky Holmes often was in the first season, and the apparent plot reset was kind of frustrating as well. Hopefully it gets better.
Indeed, hoping for much more from episode two, something, anything to reaffirm a currently wavering faith!

You thought that the manga is better, really? I think that it's pretty similar to the manga, and the problem just is that the manga wasn't that great to begin with... it's moderately amusing sometimes, but often stupid and mediocre. The manga's the same way.
The manga's 4koma style seemed to lend better to the delivery of the humor of the series than in continuous anime form. Agreed that the series as a whole isn't wholly that noteworthy to begin with though.

Yeah, this is the best new series so far this year, I agree. It's a good series, and so much fun to watch. I love the tone and feel of the series, too.

I definitely do like her character overall, but she's not entirely different.
Sure, don't think we could have anime if the characters didn't follow a bit of convention :P

But for the most part, the characters in the series seemed to stray away from the more obvious traits thus far, and hopefully they'll be able to develop into interesting ways as the series progresses.

As for tropes... ep. 1 had some (maid cafe?), but both parts of ep. 2 were different for sure, yes. It's not just another entirely cliche anime, it's something more interesting than that.
Agreed. Though the maid café situation itself was a lot less pandering than feared, that with the shows general lack of fanservice (HS girls in zero G still stay classy!) which means good things for the series.

Uh, I really disliked both Onegai Teacher and Onegai Twins, so I'm far from sure I want to watch this show...
:(

I think you like Lagrange a bit more than me then. I mean, it's decent to good, but Pirates is clearly better.
That's about where my rating of the series is at right now. There is no doubt that Pirates has the greater potential and is the more interesting show at the moment. Though Lagrange does have the advantage that it at least satisfies with the mecha action immediately.

Hmm. Well the first episode didn't really grab me at all but I guess we'll see. As of now though, I'm thinking Toradora was just a fluke.
It might be your fault for expecting something like Toradora out of AnoNatsu though. Given the pedigree, feel and style, we can definitely tell what the series is going for, and it's decidedly different from a series like Toradora.

You're insane. Ano Natsu de Matteru has the potential to be the best show this season.
Highfive!

I don't really understand why they'd pick up Galaxy Express 999, a show no-one has heard of. Moreover I really don't understand why it's a disc release - the show is a 112 episodes long, they're just looking to lose money on something like that. If they were putting it up for streaming that might be a different matter.

I'm sure they picked up the license for very little and will slap together one of those cheap DVD sets that crowd the bargain bins at Walmart. That's what "S'More Entertainment" seems to specialize in, judging by their website. One of their prominent advertisements is for "A Big Box of Cowboys, Aliens, Robots, and Death Rays".

Ano Natsu de Matteru 02
Uh, yeah. I kind of want to take this show seriously because of how good it looks but it's just all fanservice. Like, seriously all of it. There was some contrived exposition to justify some of the story, but otherwise this show only seems to exist to titillate. Only thing keeping the show floating is that girl with the blue hair.

Oh, and Lemon took a leak in the drinks.

If we're going to start arguing about what the best airing show is, I'll go one step further and drop my current ranking for all the airing shows:

Gintama
Chihayafuru
Natsume S4
Daily Lives of High School Boys
Poyopoyo
Ano Natsu de Matteru
Rinne no Lagrange
Thermae Romae
Nisemonogatari
The Knight in the Area
Another

What the hell are you doing Makoto you dumb fuck.

Gurren Lagann - 13

I don't think this show is doing me good at all, because from now on whenever I see a whiny, spineless, bitchy character who does nothing but hates himself, I'm going to be filled with hope, a hope that this show has given me for that character type, a hope that would only dissapoint me further when watching shows like Evangelion or Guilty Crown, because at the back of mind I'll start to think "They could pull a Simon at x point" only for that ray of hope to be snuffed out because harems don't fall for manly men with a spine or something.

They re-released this song?

I don't even remember that song. What the shit?

I think I just noticed this at the same time you. Think I might have tracked it down -- apparently it was the B-side track on the single release for the Death and Rebirth theme song "Soul's Refrain".
The only reason I remember that song is because it was in one of the Eva soundtracks. It was never used in the series nor did it sound very much like Evangelion.

The anisong industry bewilders me.

No, blind wheelchair hnnng.
Im not using moe anymore because people dont understand what the fuck it means.

Personally I believe you should stand your ground. Understand that you are in the minority in knowing what the term moe means. You have to swallow your pride and put your self in their shoes. They don't have your affection (non-sexual obviously) for cute things. When a picture of Rin, for example, is posted it likely won't catch that persons eye. They definitely won't be inclined to read the post which says "Rin is so moe!".

If the above situation was a persons first introduction to the term "moe" I believe they'd have less chance of misinterpreting it's meaning. That's just not the way it works though. Much of the time "moe" is applied to a picture of some 14 year old girl who's designed to be sexually appealing (if only minimally). Why else would their skirts be so short? Not that it's really a problem as the target audience is likely (I'll try to give the benefit of the doubt) 14-16 year old males.

Here lies the problem. An older male walks in and sees said pictures. This guy still has sex on the brain so those pictures will in some form trigger those thoughts, he's only human so you can't blame him. Since the picture makes an impression he reads the post and sees the word "moe". Now the word moe is synonymous with sexual attraction. When that person sees "moe" applied to a picture of Rin, how can you expect him not to think pedophile?

Honestly I see the meaning of "Hnnngg" becoming twisted just as moe is, if not all ready. That's the way it rolls. If you want people to under stand your point of view, stand firm and politely correct their error. Some will attack your point of view. At those times, more than ever, you need to stay calm and collected. Chances are they will come to have a better understanding in the long run.

I find it funny you would use rin from usagi drop as an example.

The definition of moe as just another word for cute is pretty wrong (if you wanna use it with the japanese meaning) but yeah... moe is not worth a long discussion.

Nichibro's - 02

This is great, dissapointed that I've already seen half the episode again, but the parts I haven't seen were fun the literary and scary story parts now hold a place in my heart, I WANT MOAR.

It helps that Toei's already commissioned a complete set of English subtitles for Galaxy Express 999, as seen on the various sites that have been streaming it for free viewing for the past few years. S'More Entertainment will really only need to pay the DVD/packaging production costs.

Except that isn't a common example of where the misunderstanding occurs. You have an outdated definition that's still prevalent when people look for one, and it doesn't help either that the most moe girls and boys tend to be in their adolescence.

Damn even his sister is calling him a bitch.
Blue hair's question was amazing.
Oh Lemon you so wacky.

The fact I don't have an understanding of what moe is proves part of my point. It is not understood. I really have little desire to try and comprehend a Japanese concept. That is one reason why I tend to stay out of the moe discussion.

That said, I still encourage people to try and correct the interpretation of what moe is. Giving up and stopping the use of the term will only make things worse in the long run.

If a person wishes, they're free to try and explain the concept of moe (either here or via PM) to me. I'm curious to see how one would present their argument and how accessible it is to people with a fairly closed mind.

I've always thought moe was a term to refer to cute things, non-sexualized. I'm not sure if you can call someone a pedophile for referring to a young girl as "moe". Same way you would call your 10 year old sister cute if she changed her hairstyle or something.

The only reason I remember that song is because it was in one of the Eva soundtracks. It was never used in the series nor did it sound very much like Evangelion.
Precisely for that reason songs like that are remembered as something rare or unique by the fans. How Refrain For The Soul or Soul's Refrain (魂のルフラン) was inserted at the end of EVANGELION:REBIRTH made the CD single really wanted, but also keep in mind that it was positioned as a Yoko Takahashi release on a period of extreme anticipation for the conclusion of the project (and before the CD album EVANGELION:DEATH as well), all people craving for any information or product related on a nearly mystique way. This kind of new versions (like those of A Cruel Angel's Thesis 2009 VERSION) are a callback to those exciting times for all the fans at that moment.

I like a lot the design of the CD single as well, impractical but very cool (the habitual Japanese mini CD single). Much of the promotional material from Neon Genesis Evangelion at that time was a real pleasure to see. Among all that, Mr. Anno's designs (with influence from Norihiko Nezu) are the most iconic ones. Here I'll leave some scans of it I've made:

I think you're right. Maybe I should just stand firm on what I personally see the word as meaning. the only problem is I don't want to end up in jail because of some misunderstanding, which is the whole reason stuff like this makes me nervous anyway. I am a man-child in the truest sense, and I see cuteness in everything./ Is it an immature or overly simplified way of viewing things? Probably, but it makes like easier and more fun/enjoyable.

Princess Tutu 25: ;_;

I don't wanna watch the ending now because then there will be no more Tutu for me to watch.

When the show ended I was legitimately sad. Maybe try watching osmething else in the magical girl genre like Pretear.

Gurren Lagann is so awesome. I have so many shows yet to finish. I left off around episode 6 I think.

Your body is not ready for what's next.

I dont know what youre talking about either.

The next episode is going to be that of greatness. :)

Now Im interested to finish this one. Please give me my 7 days off again schedule, work!

Yeah, the concept of moe has been kind of irrevocable tainted and warped. Maybe it was a bad word to begin using to begin with, seeing as I have my own concept of it.

I've always thought moe was a term to refer to cute things, non-sexualized. I'm not sure if you can call someone a pedophile for referring to a young girl as "moe". Same way you would call your 10 year old sister cute if she changed her hairstyle or something.

Thats how I view it obviously. I just think using the word is a can of worms so I will be extra careful not to give people the wrong idea, if possible.
