Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

What exactly is the difference between GB's Endurance Runs and your average Let's Play from Something Awful?

The gaming year 2011, was fairly disappointing.

All big budget releases (besides maybe the Witcher II which I haven't played yet), were disappointing or couldn't hold a candle to their predecessors.

Dead Space, while being a good game, didn't hold a candle to RE4's gameplay. The shooting in RE4 focuses on the weakpoints of the enemies and I think that's why they went with the static firing stance. Also there's a big difference in "shoot a weakspot, go in and melee" and "run backwards and shoot until enemies are dead".

Someone is playing Dead Space wrong...

3D sucks ass all the game and game consoles should be 2D... yes i am referring to polygonal not stereoscopical.
Super Mario World is the most fun game to play single player. period.
SSBM is the most fun game to play multi. period.
Sony destroyed videogames and videogames company
all the Metal Gear Solid are excellent games except for the first one (MGS3 was the best)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the worst 3d Mario... it's a big DLC and people doesn't understand this.
Nintendo can't make anymore good games.
All the indie stuff it's shit.
This is the worst generation of console.

God Hand sucked hard.

Seriously. I've been able to empathise with just about every post up to now in this forum, there are some I agree with and some I don't but I can understand the perspectives of all of them.

But now, I read this and seriously, it's never in my life felt more apt for me to say WTF?

You're absolutely insane. It scares me.

- Demon's Souls is the best new IP of the generation
- Skyward Sword is the worst console 3D Zelda game
- Crysis has the best single-player campaign of any first-person shooter ever
- Wheatley and Glados are annoying
- The Wii library is terrible

Daikatana had lackluster single player, but most of the reason you hated it was because the first level was difficult and you had to deal with enemies that were above and below you.

also, the MP was awesome.

Let's start

-Capcom can do whatever the fuck they want. Complaining about what they did with Mahvel 3 is just stupid at this point. It's a fighting game... It has multiple iterations... Deal with it.

-MML3 deserved to be cancelled. The first 2 were nothing special. It should have not made it into development, waste of money. Also, MegaMan Universe was a bigger waste of time. Terrible idea.

-It annoys me that people think Capcom should put out a MegaMan game just for the fucking SAKE of it. I want GOOD MegaMan games. If Capcom feels like they can't do one at the moment, then hey, I'm happy with the series we currently have. I'll go and play those games.

-ICO is boring, people pretend to like it the same way that people got caught out for liking the paintings of an artist that didn't exist.

-Shadow of the Colossus is decent for the first half of the colossi, but quickly gets tedious afterwards.

-Demons Souls and Dark Souls are cool, even though I will never finish them. Respect a developer with the balls to try and make a really hard game. That being said, I feel it's a really artificial difficulty. I don't know how to fix it, but it's how I feel about the game.

-A lot of games get hated on because they're popular. CoD being the main victim. Just because it's making the gaming culture more mainstream than usual and it's not using the absolute limit of technological prowess means it is utter shit to some people. What a load of crap.

-If you think games consoles need to be up to where PC's are constantly, then you are missing the point of what a console offers. (EDIT: in terms of polygon pushing power, etc.)

-Gaming development costs are way too high these days. The industry kind of needs to take a look at itself seriously, before it gets out of hand. Though it's probably too late.

-The Internet is possibly the worst place ever to get advice on games, due to agenda and hyperbole. Actually, it DEFINITELY is.

So yeah... Those. Will think of more later.

The Wii? Yeah...a fad. More of Nintendo's success comes from brand recognition and historical momentum than what people think.

Portal 2? Not as great as it is believed to be.

They're not "really hard" games.

actually, anyone with any weapons training will understand that they have a much better change of delivering a fatal shot by planting their feet, using both hands, and aiming carefully. this, rather than running and spraying fire wildly behind you, hitting nothing.
Also, roundhouse kicks.

Xenogears falls apart in the 2nd disc. I did not like it.
Other groundbreakingly controversial opinions from Seda include

"water is wet"
"bacon is delicious"
"MGS4 fucking sucks"
"the sun is hot"

-I thought Medal of Honor on PSone was better than N64's Goldeneye.

-Anyone paying for Xbox Live is an idiot, and are doing consumers more harm than good.

- Sega Saturn wasn't really all that great. The majority of the games people talk about in the Saturn threads sucked.

- I can't stand "I just bought system x, recomend me some games" threads. I mean seriously, you could do a fucking search and find the same thread someone else did a month ago.

- Ridge Racer needs to be euthanized. I'm sick of seeing the same game repackaged over and over again.

Gameplay > graphics. I feel gamers that value graphics above all else aren't real fans of games, akin to how you can enjoy a movie without being a movie aficionado. To that end, a game can have poor graphics and still be great, but if all a game has is graphics it's garbage.

There are a number of franchises that should only be rented because once you beat them there's no reason to ever go back:

God of War
Uncharted
Metal Gear Solid

Bethesda - Garbage. I was fooled once with Fallout, but content /= fun. If you want a well rounded post apocalyptic game, play Stalker. Medieval, play the Witcher.

Only reason to get a 360 = Halo, Gears, Madden, Kinect. Anything else is better served with a PC.

GTA IV is the best overall experience in my videogame history.

Uncharted series never could pull me in - overrated.

Resident Evil series is garbage.

I played enough of Dark Souls and Demon Souls to think that they are a total bore.

•Skyward Sword is a masterpiece.

•People that play CoD/Battlefield/FPS-bro shooters exclusively and call themselves "gamers" are just as bad as people who call themselves "gamers" because they played Super Mario Kart and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in the 90s.

•Super Mario Galaxy 2 is retail-priced DLC. Always was. Always will be.

•FFVII is far and away the most overrated game of all time.

•I don't consider iOS games real games.

•Barring something extraordinary, I think Nintendo will go 3rd party sometime in the next 10-12 years.

Mario's art style is garish
Hudson's and Sega's cheap plastic render for their B-tier games certainly don't help the look! I agree to an extent. It's fine in the big titles, though. Galaxy, Brawl etc.

Dead Space, while being a good game, didn't hold a candle to RE4's gameplay. The shooting in RE4 focuses on the weakpoints of the enemies and I think that's why they went with the static firing stance. Wait, what? If anything, Dead Space focuses even more (to a fault, even) on the weak spot mechanics with the dismemberment.

I absolutely prefer RE4 because it finds the right balance between being able to unload on them in a pickle and doing critical shots when you have more space - in DS you always need to make those critical hits because the enemies are just simple bullet sponges otherwise.

Final Fantasy 7 introduced the franchise to millions of new players. It ruined the franchise for me. By being ugly, self-important, self-indulgent, anticlimactic shit.

Mega Man 4 is a great game.

Time Splitters still is the best FPS series.

Tetris is the most consistently entertaining game ever made.

Super Mario World was inferior to SMB3 simply because Yoshi is one of the worst characters ever invented and there were stages you couldn't avoid having to use him.

Akuji the Heartless was a fun game.

Secret of Mana has a larger number of memorable music tracks than Chrono Trigger.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was fucking awful.

The physics in Little Big Planet are fine.

Shadow of the Colossus is a great piece of minimalist design, but may be the most overrated game ever made.

Zelda games are stale, set in their ways and long overdue a complete overhaul. Nintendo could do with taking a page out of other developers books and strip the franchise back to basics.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 was worse than the original, and Super Mario Sunshine was much better than Super Mario 64.

People have been far too lenient on Microsoft regarding their hardware reliability and account theft fiasco, any other company would have crashed and burned for the contempt they have shown their customers.

Sonic Heroes was the worst thing to ever happen to the franchise.

Dark Souls and Demon's Souls are boring and not at all difficult.

I care about the storyline above all else, even if a game has awful gameplay it can be redeemed by having a fantastic plot.

TimeSplitters 2 was the best FPS ever created.

Yes you need to shoot at the legs, but still it's always the most effective when you move backwards. And like you said, the enemies are bullet sponges that can be dealt with even without cutting the limbs whereas in RE4 you can sweep whole rows of enemies with correctly timed melee.

Skyward Sword is a better Zelda than Twilight Princess but Wind Waker trumps all Zelda games except for The Adventure of Link and A Link to the Past.

FFXIII isn't as awful as you think it is.

Fallout New Vegas is not great and Obsidian fucking SUCKS AND BLOWS as a studio. I don't know why and how people want those untalented assholes to make more games. I fully expect South Park RPG to be some buggy glitched shit with absolutely no patching.

Sonic CD is not very good as I just recently discovered. What horrible level design. Sonic the Hedgehog as a franchise really, really needs to die. No I will not play Sonic Colors and I hated the Sonic Generations demo so I will not be playing that any time soon.

Vanquish is a good but not great game. I think the people that praise it and bask in whatever glory they think is there are crazy. In fact, hilariously I see people get shit on for even saying "good not great" or "it's not for me" in the OT. It's fun but not a masterpiece.

MGS4 isn't as awful as you think it is.

SpacePirate Ridley said:
Also FFIX is the best Final Fantasy game.

Not controversial because it's true.

Planescape Torment is a boring snoozefest with low-brow humor that can only be enjoyed by adolescent males.

Half-Life > Half-Life 2. Half-Life 2 isn't a game, it is a grav-gun physics demo.

Quake 2 is the best Quake.

World of Warcraft is a highly polished example of MMO 1.0.

Every PC peripheral that uses "gaming" as a marketing term is 99% marketing and 1% engineering.

Live isn't worth paying for.

The Achievement system is a marketing scheme dreamed up to keep people playing and buying shitty games they'd otherwise ignore.

Handheld gaming is not dead, cannot be replaced by touch interface equipped hipster bait.

99% of indie games are absolutely terrible. they are all viral marketing hype fests.

skyrim is terrible and is on level with CoD for being the most generic game possible

skyward sword is a step in the wrong direction for nintendo

portal 2 is the only good thing to happen to gaming in 2011

People have been far too lenient on Microsoft regarding their hardware reliability and account theft fiasco, any other company would have crashed and burned for the contempt they have shown their customers.

Worst thing about this gen by far. After one RROD and a hacked Live account, that piece of shit was out the door. When I hear of people buying 3+ 360's I just can't fathom why. I wouldn't buy a toaster over and over again if it took a shit constantly toasting my morning bagel.

-Point of Impact is the best Burnout

-Splinter Cell has dumb AI, which makes the game boring as hell
-MGS3 and 4 have great AI, which make the games far better than Splinter Cell

-Nintendo is a greedy company that exploits it's users. They CAN make fantastic games and platforms, but choose to rehash old games/gameplay and make shittacular hardware for maximum profit.

I have a love-hate relationship with Nintendo.

The Uncharted games are embarrassing lowest common denominator entertainment. Story, dialogue, characters, gameplay, the whole thing is laughable. AK-47 and grenades, cover shooting waves of generic enemies, automatic platforming.

"damn I just took on 30 highly trained paramilitary soldiers on my own and survived"

hot chick appears

"wow does your ass looks good in those jeans"

Street Fighter, Soul Calibur, Mortal Kombar and the like need to start from scratch. All new characters, all new animations, no reskins. They're without fail, completely stale.

Empire: Total War was the downfall of the TW series. Combat was boring and missed the dynamics that previous TW-games had. Medieval 2: Total War might be the best use of the TW-engine to date.

Half Life 2 single player was boring, just couldn't get into the game. Gunplay was horribly out-of-date (come on, no iron sights??), the only worthwhile gimmick was the gravity gun. And even that you get late into the game.

CoD: MW was the last great CoD. While I looked forward to MW2, I was appaled at what an abortion of a game it was. More guns, more flashy things, but little to no depth. Later iterations transformed CoD into dudebro-games.

Battlefield 2 was not nearly as good as people from the BF community make it out to be. Cumulatively speaking, I've spent hours just running to where the action was, only to find the action was already over.

Finally, and to go out with a bang: while an argument could be raised about consoles bringing gaming to the masses and therefore making the gaming industry bigger, I feel they've destroyed my beloved gaming platform in a way. It did this in two ways: dumbing down of core gameplay, and destroying tried and true interfacing schemes. And I'm holding a grudge towards consoles for that.
