It was supposed to be the WWF's first foray into an extremely edgy product. It was basically ECW with WWF-level production values. The first show had Marlena (Terri Runnels) pulling the top of her dress down to expose her tits to The Sultan during his match with Goldust, although candid pictures from the crowd that eventually hit the Internet showed she was wearing flesh-colored pasties over her nipples. It was hilarious though because Bob Backlund had a fucking coronary when it happened. He ran in the ring and took his jacket off. Instead of covering Marlena, he covered Sultan's face, :lol.
It was originally conceived to be a weekly $4.99 pay-per-view model. But they couldn't get the clearance, so they stuck it on syndication while trying to pitch it to Universal channels. USA Network never picked it up, so eventually it got turned into an arena, jobber b-show after a few months.
It had some memorable moments, like Steve Austin and Terry Funk brawling all around a bar in Texas. And The Undertaker tombstoning Triple H down the escalator in Penn Station.

I know the 2 syndicated shows covered the same ol clips. Then the brand split happened. Each brand got a recap show. AfterBurn and Velocity. Velocity turned from a clip show into a Smackdown B show..while Raw had...Heat? Afterburn vanished,

This week was the first of the past three where Punk/Ace were the focus. In fact that's the only reason people are rating this Raw so highly, because the Punk storyline is infinitely more interesting than the Kane/Cena/Ryder shit (well infinitely as of the end of the most recent Raw, before that it was only 100 times more interesting).
The other weeks were pretty absurd, with a WWE Championship defense being a midcard storyline in favour of TVPG B-movie horror.
Did this week's segment by segment breakdown come in yet? (Ugh, can't believe I asked that)
It's just when people like Punk hold the title, it actually seems important again. Not just some random accessory.

Yeah, it does. The title needs to be as important as it was in the past. Look at Royal Rumble 1992 when Ric Flair won the title his promo made the belt look like really meant something.

I loved when Punk won it this time around and celebrated with the MSG crowd. Adds so much more value than anything Cena had done with it in years. Cena just sort of goes through the motions and acts like he's champ whether he's holding it or not.
It's probably because since he became Dr. Manhattan, Cena can see the entire spectrum of time, so due to the frequency of him holding the title he just treats his champion status as a universal constant.
