Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

The Nintendo 64 was a piece of shit and not a single 3D game on it holds up today aside from Mario 64. In fact, that whole early era of 3D (ended with dreamcast level polygonal graphics or PC equivalent) was shit and non-2D games for ps1/saturn/whatever were almost all complete shit as well. Also, polygonal graphics on the DS are all similarly trash and the system should've had 2D games only.

There's very little from that gen that holds up graphically...PSX games didn't exactly age well either.

Triple Triad and the soundtrack are the only good things about FF8. I wish Triple Triad was in the infinitely superior FF9 instead of, blah, Tetra Master.

I wish Square Enix would just release an Offical Triple Triad game on either Steam/iOS or PSN/XBLA, shit i would even accept a Facebook version. I bought FF8 from the PSN purely just for Triple Triad.

They could sell booster packs and have an Auction house for the thing. Its a goldmine of microtransctions waiting to happen.

Alright, guess I'll lay down mine.

Alpha Protocol was a great game. There were a few parts that are broken, but the way the story unfolds because of your choices is just crazy. The different endings and cutscenes you will see depending on how you choose to play are awesome.

It is the Chrono Trigger of the new generation, the choice is clear, everyone should play Alpha Protocol. Anyone who hasn't played it is crazy and missing out on one of the best games this gen.

Also, Crash Bandicoot sucks outside of a couple clever commercials, always has and always will.

Sony: Adults

Microsoft: Teens

Nintendo: The Kids.

Not saying that one from each category can't enjoy the other and it's not always strictly true but generally speaking...it is.

I've never understood Japanese games. They seem way unpolished and focus too much on a story that is poorly written and just goes on and on. This includes Mario.

-I think Samus could beat Master Chief
-The WiiU doesn't look really promising at this point
-Pokemon is now being taken way too seriously
-games can have great stories

Valve ruined Team Fortress 2.

and on top of that

Multiplayer games should not receive updates out side of initial bug fixes. No balance changes (that's for beta), no new weapons, no new maps, no dlc. If your game cannot sustain itself on the content that's first available, or the rules you first established, then you made a bad game.

Did anyone not like Rearmed? I'd be much more shocked by that.

I thought it was just ok, didn't bother to finish it. I also wasn't hot on Dark Void Zero and a lot of folks liked that game.

Your post makes no sense. Especially given the buggiest devs are easily western, Betheseda?

Given that we know almost nothing, fair enough. I like the posibilities the controller presents though.

-Pokemon is now being taken way too seriously

Did you see the scandal/internet fail when the BW starter evolution were leaked? That caused me to re-evaluate my opinion of the human race and it wasn't particularly high to begin with.

A lot of Eastern games feature something really quirky, but beyond that they feel really broken. Mario is a very polished game, but it just seems to drag on.

...wut? Your complaint in the previous post was Japanese games were unpolished and had too much story, including Mario. Now you're saying Mario is very polished. So you think Mario has too much story? What western game has less story than Mario?

Saving the princess IS a lot to take in the first time I suppose... :o

Deadly Premonition's generally acclaimed characters, setting, and atmosphere feel like bad rip-offs of what Twin Peaks did. The game also seems like an absolute chore to play, although that part isn't really controversial.

This has been the best generation for platforming games that gaming has had (Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Meat Boy, Mirror's Edge, Rayman Origins, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, VVVVVV, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Sonic Colors...)

I enjoyed the pacing in Half-Life 2. The lengthy vehicle segments didn't bother me, as they made the world feel larger and provided a nice change of pace from the more focused (and usually indoors) on foot segments.

I enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles, The World Ends With You, and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door more than any Final Fantasy title that I've played (with the possible exception of Final Fantasy Tactics).

For 2010 game sountracks, I like Pac-Man Championship Edition DX's soundtrack more than Nier's (although I think both are great).

Mario Kart: Double Dash!! is the best Mario Kart game. It has many excellent stages (Wario Colosseum, Donkey Kong Mountain, Baby Park) and having two characters per kart added a lot of depth (particularly for item management). I sorely miss the character specific items in other games in the series.

I am sure someone will have probably stated this before (thread is immense now) ...

I think the Gof of War series is terrible in most aspects except technical achievemente. Art, design and specially gameplay are terrible.

Hey wait...

Are you saying I'm formulaic?! Like some crappy 80's sitcom with a stupid as hell laughtrack formulaic?!

I bop you one if I could reach.

Don't be like that. I just spotted the opening I'd left in hindsight, and hoped that you would fill it. If I were the sort of person to thrust that sort of criticism in someone's face, it'd be hard for me to justify my own low comedy without being a big, thick hypocrite.

With TF2. They had a near perfect game with low complexity and high skill, with a roster of characters that oozed personality and style. Then they filled it with stupid hats that were understandable at first, but then outright started to destroy the aesthetic of the characters. Not to mention the terrible cross game promotions. Fuck you, I don't want to see the tribal mask from From Dust trying to punch me with a Deus Ex arm. Not even Nintendo would do that to a Mario game.

Also they added mechanics such as Mini-crits, buffs, and loss of control debuffs, that added unnecessary complexity to the game. I didn't mind that too much, but...

Then they sold you weapons for $10 a pop. Hey, remember when EA tried to do the exact same thing with Bad Company and such a unimaginable shit fit occurred that EA made those weapons free? And while people kept saying "Oh but they're all balanced" I noticed how every Soldier was firing the Black Box (a gun that healed you.) Not just that, but fighting people became less about on-the-fly mental planning. You use to know what a certain class can and can't do and then act upon that. Now there's so many variables it's now just feels like "fuck it."

Then they made it free to play, allowing everyone to justify them selling hats and weapons at the same price of the games they sell. Okay, so I did pay $30 a long time ago thinking I was going to invest in a game that won't take such a weird turn as it did (especially with Valve?), but it's okay because they gave me a hat for it.

Of course, I could play on the "Vanilla" servers. But my friends, and communities of players that I've played with since 2008 don't play vanilla.

So fuck.

Given that we know almost nothing, fair enough. I like the posibilities the controller presents though.

It has alot potential but right now I don't think Nintendo/3rd parties can follow through any better than they did with the Wii. Atleast for the first year. I would love to be proven wrong.

Did you see the scandal/internet fail when the BW starter evolution were leaked? That caused me to re-evaluate my opinion of the human race and it wasn't particularly high to begin with.

lol.

You know, for a game I paid money for, it was starting to get a little too F2P.

To each his own. I like more options and the promotions don't bug me.

who the hell uses the black box. i hope you kicked their asses for using such a bad weapon. (stock weapons are superior in most situations, only a few scenarios require different approaches due to new weapons, and learning them is no more complex than learning the vanilla game)

Summed up my thoughts perfectly. Valve destroyed TF2, but looks like we are in the minority. That Proof of Purchase hat is an insult to me TBH.

-I can't get into any Bethesda games. They just get so boring after a while to me, not from my lack of trying. I tried MorrowWind when it came out on the PC ages ago and I couldn't get into it. Same with Oblivion. Was in wonder for the first 2 hours because it was all new and next-gen at the time I got it but after a few hours I was bored stiff. Figured Fallout 3 would be different because I loved F1/2 on the PC but nope. Hoped Skyrim would finally break the cycle but 5 hours in...nothing.

-I don't get the fuss over Zelda (Sorry OP!) or Super Smash Brothers. Hoping OoT 3DS changes that for me.

The Black Box is old news anyways. It's all about the rocket launcher that has five rockets and infinite ammo.

But it's okay because it's 5% weaker and it no longer has a silly luck mechanic to depend on (balance!)

I payed 30 dollars 4 years ago for TF2, with the game getting constant free updates and now it goes free to play? Fuck you Valve. They add some garbage weapons and the game is ruined forever.

What, the shitty Grordbort rocket launcher that nobody uses anymore because they nerfed it a week later?

Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are really over-rated

Dante from Devil May Cry is one of the worst designed characters of the past console generation

The free updates (and weekend) was a really smart way to raise awareness and generate new sales for the game. And while the game did start to feel a little bloated near the end of those updates, at the new equipment was designed (mostly) to significantly change the way you play. A melee demo, a soldier that needs to be accurate, a spy with a bow, etc. They were done much differently than weapons that are "It improves your whatever but decreases your ammo." It could have sailed off into the sunset. But instead they decided to ruin it.

yeah i hate those free weapons that everyone has within a week of their release weapons they totally force you to pay for like in that totally-not-disingenuous-bad-company-analogy
