Sarah Palin got points for not forgetting her own name in the VP debate. She spent the rest of the time spouting prepared one-liners and avoiding questions completely to "Speak directly to the American people".

The unavoidable question on these occasions is simply "Who won?", and on this occasion it is particularly difficult to answer.

I'd be inclined to call it even, while noting that Mrs Palin perhaps exceeded expectations and even got a couple of cheeky digs in towards the end.

I'm not getting into this - in the end, the debate was forgettable. Biden "won" by a margin that wasn't overwhelming and most thought Palin came off better than expected. That the post debate polls are not 80% Biden 20% Palin show you all you need to know about Biden - he couldn't even wipe the floor with a lightweight like her.

The point remains - Biden is a moron.

He's still Catholic though. A Mormon/Catholic GOP ticket? Southern Baptists not sure if want.

lol good point, the South is very Baptist right? Are the Evangelicals Baptist?

I wonder if any of the Evangelicals actually know what Mormons believe.

If Obama won, couldn't an "independent" SuperPAC just run ads that quote from the Book of Mormon and kill all Evangelical support for Romney?

Wow, that tag is dead on.

I'm sorry, but Joe Biden is a moron. He has no place in the White House. Can you imagine him as President if something were to ever happen to Obama?

I was not intending to agree with the OP about the VP debates though. Winning the Palin Biden debate is nothing to brag about.

The concern at the time among dems was that he would be too harsh on her and look like an asshole, giving her sympathy support. She got softballed and still lost.

Romney will pick John Thune for VP. Young, good looking, and perfect conservative credentials that will be acceptable to the far right base. Will go from unknown to Rockstar (in the Republican party) in less then a week.

LOL, Joe Biden is a certified moron - Go Giants! Idiot. I don't know how anyone takes the guy seriously.

Sarah "fucking" Palin basically debated him to a draw.

You're definitely reaching new heights, Kosmonaut.

Queen Latifah said:
Because expectations are so universally low, if at no point the governor: faints, vomits, suffers a heart attack or runs out of the building crying, we in the media will be obligated to call the debate: a draw.

Came off better than expected, as in not verbally falling on her face every other sentence. The bar for her was set was so, so, so, so incredibly low after her series of hilariously abysmal interviews.

I could see Thune as the VP choice. I don't Christ himself would come with better christian cred.

That debate was one where everyone knew the outcome before it began. Palin "exceeded expectations" by not embarassing herself on stage.

Bidens position was one where he had to debate someone clearly unqualified to be there WITHOUT getting overly agressive or appearing patronizing. The Obama campaign had enough problems being painted as anti woman aft er beating Hillary and then snubbing her for the vp spot. Beating up on Palin would have only compounded that problem.

So again, Biden obliterating palin in the debate was never an option.

That is a more expected choice. Plus Thune has been going all out campaigning for Romney.

The GOP has never had a Catholic nominee. If one of Romney's problems with the base is his Mormonism, a Catholic VP won't completely solve it.
The GOP is falling all over itself to put Gingrich in the front runner spot. Again. If catholicism was an issue with the south, it would have already impacted Gingrich. It hasn't. It's a non issue.

Biden's been in politics for a hundred years, he will win or hold his own in any ultimately meaningless VP debate against any ultimately meaningless VP candidate, the entire question of VP is ultimately meaningless, why are we even talking about this, except for the guy who doesn't want to talk about it and brought it up.

Thune is from South Dakota though. One could argue Biden was also from a safe state, but Biden was perfect at shoring up a subset of voters (blue collar whites); he was the "every man" candidate. Thune is just a senate creature who didn't run for president in part because he's not charismatic or energizing.

Romney should pick Bob McDonnell. He's a successful governor who will shore up the base without scaring off independents like Palin. He'd also help Romney attempt to re-take Virginia, which republicans will need to win

There's always a surprising amount of right wing banner ads on GAF, but this one from yesterday is the best yet.

I wonder how mad Romney will be if Newt wins the nomination.

Romney has by far the most money and this was supposed to be his time.

I'll be perfectly fine with Biden running business in place of Obama's absence. He's more qualified than every single moron on stage today. Including that babymess called Sarah Palin.

Oh, I agree 100% with Biden being better than the republicans this year. I still wouldn't want him as President.

Can Newt win the primaries in more moderate states?

Also, I saw the video in which Romney was flummoxed on the tax returns question.

You know, if he's this hesitant to release them, it makes me think that there's something bad in there he doesn't want anybody to see.

Does it really matter if they are moderate states, only the Republicans in those states vote in Republican primaries, and the Tea Party is much more motivated to vote than average Joe.

Couldn't you say the same for Mitch Daniels (just swapping Indiana for Virginia)? I could see why he wouldn't be bad but I don't see why he would add much at all to the ticket.

LOL.

who wants anyone to see what is on their tax return. How could he expect to run for office and not show them. It probably shows his Cayman stuff, donations to the church, and etc. I highly doubt there is some knockout blow on their, that is just your overactive young imagination acting up.

Oh and kosmo spare us the bullshit will you. Do you really expect us to believe that you read BBC? Amazing how google works with those search words (biden palin debate draw?)

Yep, America's most prosperous times had insanely high taxes on the rich. Now things are in the shitter, and the rich pay lower taxes than ever.

My eager young mind is impressionable and I'm only echoing, from what I'm reading, about the debate! Jon Cohn who's not so young.
3) What is in Mitt Romney’s tax returns? I have no idea, but I’m starting to wonder if it’s even more damning than speculation has suggested. Romney’s answers on the tax questions were rambling and unclear, which is remarkable for a candidate who is so intellectually sharp, who prides himself on careful preparation, and who had to know the question was coming. This issue has rattled him, obviously, and I’m eager to find out why.

I think we already know the big issue . . . he probably pays a lower rate than you do. With massive deficits and people struggling, I don't think that is going to go over well in the fall. Especially when he starts spouting how we need a bigger military . . . we do? Then pay for it, Mitt.

I'm probably going to vote for Obama, but I am really starting to like Santorum. Usually when he starts responding to some question I'm like, -_- o this will be good, but by the end of it I'm like, .. :> Yea I can agree with that.
