I like how Penguindrum handles background crowds. But that creates a different mood from Bakemonogatari's almost post-apocalyptic solitary melancholia.
From now on, I'm going to pretend that 5 years before the show started, 99% of the Earth's population was wiped out by loli flu, but everyone is acting like it didn't happen. It'll be interesting to see how Araragi was affected by the tragedy.

The comment someone made earlier about columns of boys and girls was interesting. I didn't catch it the first time, but the second time I watched it, I noticed how everyone in the class is lined up.

In reality it is 3 writers who are taking turns doing exactly what you just described. The first 6 episodes were all by the same guy, then he roped two of his friends into this brutal game of death.

while the old lady did say there were no other customers, its possible that Mei told her to say that, or that Mei isnt considered a customer in the store. I doubt its because Mei is a ghost that can't be seen or something like that.

I gotta say, since I've started reading the manga, I can now totally see how fast paced of an adaptation this is. They're doing like 3 chapters an episode. They better slow it down if they don't want to resort to years of filler and/or cancellation.

Sometimes it's only 2 chapters, but very rarely is it 1. There's also some small stuff cut out here and there which seems kind of counterproductive if they're taking longevity into account. Right now, they're at like chapter 93 or something.
Also, Tina is a filler character. It's amazing that they can create a regular character that gets a decent amount of screen time and STILL move this fast.
