PS Vita US Launch Details (Launch Games, Accessory Pricing)

There is no standard tax and many of us live in states without sales tax.

Sony hasn't charged tax on any PSN purcahses since the hack.

Is it only GameStop charging more than $29.99 for some of the launch titles? I don't want this move to become the norm for other stores. $29.99 is such a great deal..

I guess they made so much extra money selling New Super Mario Bros Wii for $64.99 they decided to expand the ripping people off policy.

PS Vita fisrt edition (CND Wi-Fi Version)
Cradle
Extra USB Cable
Uncharted Golden Abyss

This is going to be expensive!
Can't wait! ;)

For those debating about the first edition bundle...I guess think of this way. Stop thinking about the price so much, and think about what it comes with. To you, is that stuff you'd actually want?

At first I was just going to get the regular wifi version myself for $250...but then I kept looking at the first edition bundle. I didn't want the 3g version at first, because I didn't wanna start paying for the service and I didn't think I'd use it., so that wasn't a real big selling point for me. However I guess it would be nice to have the option if say next year, I finally start taking advantage of it.

Looking at the other stuff coming with the bundle though, if you have the money, it doesn't seem too bad of a deal. The carrying case it comes with actually looks quite nice, and the places to put more Vita games is definitely a plus. I was going to be getting a memory stick, and while 4gb is kinda small, it'll get me started for the first few months at least. Little Deviants actually looks like a game I'd like to play. It looks like a fun diversion, and a cool way to check out the features of the Vita.

I have the money, and I'm excited enough to want to get it a week early so I decided to preorder the first edition bundle. I weighed the value, and to me it's worth it. Ask yourselves these questions. If money is not an issue, and you're excited, or you think the items in the bundle are cool, then it's worth considering.

EDIT: omg, why do I always end up posting the last post of a page? no one's ever gonna see this, lol

you convinced me. i just cancelled my wifi order and starter kit and placed an order for the first edition bundle. i really like that case that comes with the bundle. that was the main thing that swayed me. a week early doesn't hurt either. i went from paying 320 on launch day to 380. not too bad.

You speak a lot of truths. I think I am just going to get the First Edition Bundle. All of the games I wanted to buy are coming out in the 15th anyways. I also have been having a hard time finding a case that I like and the case that comes with it looks to be the most similar to what I would want.

Even if I do just stick with the 3g version I know I would have a really hard time not just going to best buy/gamestop in search of a first edition on launch day. Sony got me I guess.

You convinced me, too. The wasted 4GB memory card is worth the bonus of getting it a week early, plus Little Deviants was something I wasn't planning on getting at launch, but will be a nice added touch.

After changing around my pre-orders, here's what I'm getting:

- Vita First Edition Bundle
- 32GB memory card
- Uncharted
- Official cradle

That should do me for a while. The rest I'll get off PSN. Bring on the 15th!

So what do people make of Yosp's tweet yesterday? Something along the lines of "It's good to have a good team around you when you're forced to make a hard decision." Given his history, he's not one to just toss around words of wisdom on twitter. Anything happen yesterday that coincided with the tweet?

He was visiting studios in the UK so that was probably referring to all the cuts they had to make over there.

Anyone taking bets on Vita getting an Elder Scrolls game?

I'd even buy a port of Morrowind if they took out some of the overly tedious stuff.

I'll take that bet. Sony isn't that smart, unfortunately.

Edit: To clarify, it's not that "Sony isn't that smart." It's that "Sony is a really fucking dumb company who makes awful decisions and misses obvious opportunities on a daily basis."

There was interest in that Oblivion PSP spinoff that never manifested. Maybe they'll consider something similar for Vita.
And then it'll run at 0fps after 20 hours of play.

What about Diablo 3? Would that be feasable on the Vita?

Sony should definitely try aiming for such support, it could be something significant that would differntiate the system.

I think I got this thing figured out finally. Here's what I'm thinking:

- WiFi Vita : $250
- 8GB Card : $30
- Travel Pouch : $20
- WipEout 2048 : $30

Grand total : $330

I won't have everything in the first edition bundle and I won't have 3G capabilities but I think the trade-off (bigger memory card, better game) is worth it.

The best part is I just found out I can use American Express reward points on Amazon so this entire purchase is going to end up costing me about $100. Score!

And system killer.
lol, so true.

The cradle looks pretty sexy for $20 but I could not really see myself using it. Replace Uncharted with Hot Shots and that's basically what I'm getting.

I think it would actually run better on the Vita than on the PS3.
Unless Sony's reserving more than half the Vita's system memory for background apps, it'd probably run a lot better on the Vita. Graphics would still probably have to be cut down some simply due to GPU limitations, but it should have more memory to work with than the 360. And the whole game would fit on a 4 GB cart, apparently.

So why are they charging so much for it in the UK when they are clearly making a tidy profit from it.

Is this a real question? Because they like making "tidy profits," as most people do.

Is your question actually "They have room to drop this handheld but won't because they think it's going to sell anyway even in this iOS/smartphone/3DS market? Are they fucking stupid?"

If that's your question, it's a good one, and yes. Yes they are. Very very dumb.

That's the question. Also, I've seen so many gaffers saying that Sony are selling these at a loss. I wonder where they get their information from.

I'm sure that was simply a guess.

The hardware certainly seems as if it would cost more than it does. OLED screens aren't cheap, the hardware is very fast, and it is loaded with features. It seemed as if they threw everything they could at it and I'm surprised that the manufacturing cost is so low.

Sony did take a rather large hit on each PS3 sold back in 2006 so I'm sure people simply assumed the same thing was occurring here. I'm not sure Sony could withstand another PS3 launch right now, however.

Because the BOM cost is not the total cost of the system.
You have to cover the margin for the retailers, and the cost of the logistics (e.g., 33 - 50% for retailers alone, sometimes more, sometimes less).

For a typical business, you'll also need to recover R&D costs. ^_^

EDIT: Beaten.

The costs ESTIMATED in the Eurogamer article are guesses at the cost of the individual parts. They do not include the manufacture, packaging or distribution costs for each unit (which could easily account for another $60 or more), nor do they include the retailer profit margins or any recompense for the very real development costs Sony incurred making the machine... so, is there room for a price shift? Maybe a small one, but not as much as we might think, and not so much that Sony are likely to reduce the price without giving the system every chance at its current price point... I'd think that more bundles are far more likely than any kind of price reduction in the first 18-24 months after launch...

>_< Think first before making fun of someone else. ^_^
Chimps can be better than that !

I'll be waiting for a price drop before getting Uncharted....FIFA is still a maybe

Did anyone here preorder 3DS on Amazon? Did it come on launch day? This is the first system launch I remember where so many day-1 buyers seem confident in online shipping.

i have yet to have a "release date shipping" item get to me later than the release date from Amazon. i have confidence in Amazon. of course, now that i've jinxed myself, this will be the first thing that is late.

I'm picking up:

Wifi Vita
8gb card
Wipeout
UMvC3
NG Sigma+

And a carrying case. Haven't decided which one yet. I also want BB, just because I can actually play that on a pad, and Shinobido.

so, does anyone know if anything more specific besides "launch window" has been announced for sumioni's release date. that game looks pretty cool.

And the textures would actually look decent on a screen that small.
