wheee concept art
Are those original badnik designs, or do I just have a terrible memory?

Hydrocity Zone?

Wouldn't it be nice if we got some concept art like this?

I can't agree that the physics are worse than the 8-bit versions. Those games had very flimsy physics and awful framerates that ruined anything those games could have offered. Sonic 4 was certainly better than those titles.
It's nowhere near as good as the 16-bit titles, though.
I will never understand why SEGA chooses to promote the Sonic 4 episodes with awful teaser trailers and concept art. It's worthless and it makes me somewhat disinterested in the game because it makes me think in the back of my mind that they either: don't have anything good to show, don't have anything to show at all, or don't want to show interested buyers parts of the product they intend to sell because they might see something they don't like. And that's the last time I'm going to post one of these "updates." They haven't shown the game yet, but they think we care about concept art of 1/4th of a wheel.
If they want to promote the game, put out a trailer, with real gameplay, no "1 second of a corkscrew" crap, no spending 30 seconds looking at blue and orange streaks flying through speedlines lands. Until then, this is honestly worthless. If you show off a good game, or at least an interesting one, then we might actually care about the badnik design.

Concept art again to promote the game? They obviously aren't trying hard enough to persuade us that this game will be good...
Anyway that is definitely the blue wheel from Marble Garden Zone. Seeing it from the side like that makes it look different.
Is that a new badnik? Something...original in a Sonic 4 game? It reminds me of that one badnik in Sonic 1 where it had spikes all over it and the only way to kill it was to roll into it. I'm guessing that's what they're getting at with this one unless it has an ability they haven't told us about.
heeeeeeeeeellllllllll no.
The Master System/Game Gear games are awesome. Shit all over Sonic 4.
What? NO!
Sonic Triple Trouble >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sonic 4
I think you're coasting on some pretty hardcore nostalgia. Most of the Game Gear Sonics are awkward and usually peter out somewhere around halfway through the game.
I can't even remember what is in most of the Game Gear Sonics past the first couple of stages in each, and I've come close to or outright beaten a lot of them.
While I really don't like Sonic 4, saying the Game Gear games shit all over it is being a little more harsh than necessary. Now, if you wanna talk something like Sonic Pocket Adventure... that's a different story.
Yes, seriously nostalgia. With my recent retro kick, I was messing around with some of those old games on my GameGear and was shocked at just how poorly they've aged (unlike the 16-bit games).I think you're coasting on some pretty hardcore nostalgia. Neither of those are true. The physics are NOTHING like the Genesis games and the level designs are sparse and angular.Level design was great and physics were Genesis like.
That was a snail and beta. There was a snail in Sonic CD, though. Only hermit crab badnik I can recall is from hydrocity and looks nothing like this one.Yep, it's a new badnik. It does resemble a badnik from uh... Sonic 1 maybe (from Spring Yard?) but it looks pretty new otherwise.
Sonic Pocket Adventure is a solid game (much better than those GameGear/Master System titles), but it only runs at 30 fps. That's pretty disappointing for a 2D Sonic.

you're thinking of sonic rush
Mmhmm, with gaijin 4koma pics and everything.maybe this is how you feel when I say Sonic 06>Sonic Colors

Forgot about that guy![]()
This is the badnik I was mentioning. Similar design and exact same way to defeat it.
Sonic Triple Trouble wasn't the most polished game, but I do like that game better than Sonic 4. It had a certain charm to it that I found enjoyable and of course dat good soundtrack!
Sonic 4 physics are more like no physics, or conditional physics. Momentum only exists so long as left or right is held. The rolling physics are atrocious and the level design, save for a few levels, is terrible.Am I the only one who actually liked Sonic 4: Episode I better than any of the classic games?
I won't deny that the classic games are great, but they're too frustrating. Getting all the Chaos Emeralds is ridiculously hard. Sonic 4 seemed to have just the right level of difficulty. Plus there's the fact that you don't have to restart the game if you miss a Chaos Emerald in Sonic 4 unlike the classic games. >.>
I really hope Episode II is more like Episode I than the classic games in that sense. I hope they don't change the physics too much, either. I prefer Episode I physics over the classic physics as well (though it'd be nice if they fixed the bugs like Sonic walking on walls and such, but that hardly affects gameplay).
Well, physics or lack of physics, I enjoyed how the game played. And I greatly prefer the level design over the classic games. Episode I's levels feel so much more clean and simple than the classic games'. It was too easy to get lost in the classics, I felt. And Episode I's graphics are much nicer on the eyes, so you can actually see what's going on in the levels, which was something I found difficult in the classic Sonic games because the levels were just so busy with so many sprites everywhere.Sonic 4 physics are more like no physics, or conditional physics. Also, you should play Sonic 3 & Knuckles since based on your chaos emerald nitpick it sounds like you haven't.

I know you have many opportunities, but they're still limited. The Special Stages are just so hard that it's pretty much impossible for me. Nothing's more frustrating than finding out you have to beat a game all over again because you missed something that you can't go back and get....You have many opportunities to get the emerald in Sonic 2. There's a billion of star posts. And there's an interesting trick in Sonic 2 where if you reset the game and just start new game from the options menu, you actually get to keep your emeralds. (I have NO idea how I discovered that on my own as a kid.)

It has a save system that lets you select levels once you beat the game on that save.Well, physics or lack of physics, I enjoyed how the game played. And I have played Sonic 3 & Knuckles, though I've never finished it. Does it have a stage select feature or something? If so I don't remember, I probably never realized it did because every game before it didn't.
I hate to say Sonic 4's problem is "physics", given how much that's been thrown around. The problem is they tried to take Sonic Rush and rejigger it to play like Classic Sonic. That's literally all Sonic 4 is; it's just Sonic Rush without the boost or the trick system, in levels that weren't really designed to handle that kind of stuff.
I especially got mad at Casino Street because that level doesn't work anything close to the way it should. They designed Genesis Sonic pinball levels and the game doesn't play like that at all.
We are best friends for life. I mean, we were, but now we REALLY are.
<3 Triple Trouble
Seems like Episode I all over again so far.
Unexciting teaser trailer? Check.
Boring logo that's just a modern version of the classic one? Check.
And now concept art. It it was of a level or something, it could be cool. But a single enemy? Are they going to show just a tree or flower next?
Gee...so hyped.

grew up on the master system n game gear sonic games before i played the mega drive ones <3
I remember when I wasn't a GAF member yet and laughing a lot at it when it was posted in the thread.Haha, at least with the first one we had hope that the pay off would be worth it.. And then.. THAT VIDEO leaked... God I hate mine carts.
Sonic Triple Trouble was the only game I frequently borrowed from my cousin, to the point of essentially sharing ownership of it.Billychu said:Sonic Triple Trouble was the first game I ever owned.
Because the game is fun? I never had any problem with the physics. Sure, they're not like the Genesis physics, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. As long as the game's fun, I could care less about the physics. The physics didn't get in the way of the fun for me. I enjoyed everything Episode I offered better than I did the classic games, so that's why I prefer how things are in Episode I.I honestly don't understand why you prefer sonic 4 physics. He stops on a dime when you let go of the d-pad and if you try to roll you'll crawl to a stop.
Why is Sega so opposed to using the original Sonic design? It looks so much better. This 1999 Sonic design just looks forced. Can't stand it.
