School Days 6

Makoto you cock.

Good, good. Keep going, let your feelings flow.

Macross 7 10

For a second I thought they were gonna kill off Ray after explaining his backstory and I was about to be pissed off. I'm glad some character backgrounds are starting to be fleshed out a little, and I liked what I learned about him. The invasion during the show really sucked for them,
and flower girl is still my waifu. I don't even care if she doesn't do anything else but just be loyal, because her loyalty makes her so great.

Aquarion Evol 1-2

Well-choreographed mech fights, a neat futuristic world, and GATTAI. Yep, this sure is Aquarion. Awesome seeing this universe again in shinier modern HD stuff. I feel for the guys that had to wait 7 years for this.

First thing I noticed is that the world should be A LOT more advanced after 12,000 years which already had a relatively advanced civilization. Still a pretty place that's clearly modeled after Venice to some extent.

Really wasn't expecting a battle of the sexes when the original had no qualms about pairing up men and women. Oh well, seems like Sora has already broken the thing keeping that taboo, so will probably be a non-issue.

Cool seeing some old faces. Fudo looks great with the hair and eyepatch. Glad he kept his trademark hand clapping. But why the hell is Apollo a villain? That sucks, he was a cool guy (yeah, I know it's probably not him, but still :/).

Anyway, great intro episode. I'm definitely gonna enjoy this. Glad I decided to watch the original.

hehehehe. YOU WILL SEE ALL SOON.

What was up with the end of that episode?

Katsura is all like "I'll love you even if you are dating someone else!" Then she finds out Makoto and Seika are going at it and stops cold. I thought she was expecting this?

Was this just a translation fuck up?

Anne of Green Gables 50

God's in his heaven, all's right with the world.

Fulfilling conclusion to a fantastic show. The limits of its budget show, mostly in inconsistent animation, and I wish it had been about three episodes shorter and removed the weakest padding. But those are minor complaints. The novel is a timeless classic, and Takahata did it justice. He portrays the characters and events with a sensitive and sympathetic eye that draws out their emotional power without going overboard into exaggerated sentimentality. Some incidents that were only briefly described are appropriately fleshed out for a visual medium, and most of the new ones inserted are in keeping with the spirit of the book. The art is beautiful throughout, and it's easy to see why countless Japanese have been inspired by this to visit Prince Edward Island. In the end, Anne of Green Gables turns out to be both more grounded and have a wider scope than just about any other anime show.

Now that this has whetted my appetite, it's time to watch everything else Isao Takahata did that I haven't seen yet. Should be fun times ahead.

Luckily for you there's quite a lot more stuff to watch, most of his shows are pretty long.

Maybe actually seeing it before your eyes changes the perspective.

Nope.
it is as fucked as you think it is.

Nisemonogatari 3

Non-silhouette version of Futakotome is awesome. Also, Twister is a fun game. Also also, we've finally closed off that small "how we got here" flashback, and actual plot begins.
Kaiki's theme is pretty cool.

Really, they could just give me 20 minutes of Hiroshi Kamiya and Chiwa Saitou talking and I'd be happy.

e: Heh, I just learned that Kamiya, Saitou, and Takahiro Sakurai (Meme) were also all in another Shinbo Shaft show with a vampire as a central character. Guess they make a good combination!

Urusei Yatsura 13-18

The episode where the teacher tries to date Lum was pretty blergh.

Somewhere in here I realized that the voice cast of Gosenzosama Banbanzai all had major roles on UY (Inumaru = Ataru, Inumaru's mom = Sakura, Inumaru's dad = Ataru's dad, etc.) which seems like an obvious and important connection. derp.

You're nearly up to the point where the format changes!

To clarify, the movie version has actually come out on Blu-Ray before, this is the original OVA series.
Who do you think I am, some anime newbie? Of course I know that the movie already came out.

There's nothing to joke about regarding K-On!.
There's more than one way to interpret this post. *giggle*

I told my friend once to watch School Days, and when he finished it, I got a text saying "Fuck you" and then he didn't talk to me for 3 days. Heh heh. It was worth it.

Not-Very-Bodacious Space Not-Pirates 3:

If this was the pacing they were going to take with 26 episodes, this should have been a 12-episodes show. Just get on with the goddamned Bodacious Space Piracy, already! Mou! At least they actually had some (comparatively tame) fanservice this time around, although the mysterious lack of pantsu-view in a zero-G environment continues to baffle me. The show is beautifully animated and even the CG space object models look good, but Raptor Jesus on a Pogo Stick, COULD SOMETHING PLEASE HAPPEN ALREADY?!

Who could have thought that a show with such a premise would be slow and non-bodacious.

Macross 7 11

Pedo
alert!
Pedo
alert! Besides that though, I really liked the information about
Mylene's parents.

Did you watch the original Macross?

Mylene's parents only get more awesome as the show goes on

School Days 7

MAKOTO YOU COCK.

And I feel bad for Katsura, because everyone's treating her like shit, but she needs to stop lying to herself and give up. It's pitiful.

K-On!! 1

Thou shall bow down to Lord Azunyan~

Friends don't let frinds miss out on experiencing School Days.

Don't worry. It get's worse.

I'm a horrible person, but no, I did not. At least not all of it. I will though, eventually anyways. I only barely know the metaplot between each of them, but yeah, I need to watch the first.

I'm excited though, especially about your spoilers, and the fact that I didn't know Mylene's mom
is a micronized Zentradi.

you are missing out on so much

my god

Mononoke 1:
Well, that was certainly not quite what I expected. It was very good, though. The art design is out of this world, and this has some of the best usage of sound I can think of in recent memory. The episode managed to create some nice horror and atmosphere, and I'm really interested to see where this show heads based on the end. There was some great dialogue between the characters, too, particularly in the scene where they're climbing the stairs. I'll definitely keep watching this.

I'd recommend going and checking out -
Make sure you also watch the Bakeneko arc from Ayakashi (episodes 9-11). It provides a better introduction to the Medicine Seller, introduces a character who will return in episode 3 of Mononoke, and executes the concept behind the show as well as it ever will be.
Darn it.

Nise 3

Just as I was beginning to tire of Araragi something fierce,
a moment of MAN
. Looks like the show's met firmly back up with the A plot , so I'll stick with it a bit longer.

No, they're quite different entirely... yeah, as you say (and I agreed above) they are both post-apocalyptic shows with female lead casts, but they're so different in every other respect -- genre, action, style, theme, art, setting, etc -- that no, I really don't think they're very similar. Last Exile Fam is at its core a flight and feet combat action series, really, with constant tension and fighting; SnW is mono no aware drama / group of girls comedy where most of the fighting is in flashback. And yeah both lead characters are eager optimists, but have pretty different characters and skillsets.

That's the thing, absent all the silly and banal war stuff, you basically have a story about a girl who just wants to race. They even go as far to point out that her ship doesn't have weapons.

Or just fast forward through S1, amirite?
Or just listen to Fuwa Fuwa Time a dozen times, along with Don't Say Lazy.
Don't listen to firehawk. Ever.
Something something Thin Red Line > Redline.
I liked K-ON!, but episode 13 was clearly on another level from the rest of the show, a level that I imagine will appeal to more people. I haven't seen S2 yet, but if it continues that approach of avoiding the sometimes awkward gags to focus on painting a beautiful picture of friendship, I think there would be some merit in telling someone who's not entirely happy with the start of K-ON! to skip there and try it out.
S1 is basically a straight adaptation of the 4koma... and really, 2 volumes of the 4koma crammed into 12 episodes. It's why you have two beach episodes and essentially the same set of jokes recycled. First, timid Mio, then timid Azusa.
S2 is when they decided to try to elevate the source material... so, yeah.

Nothing to say except Shaft being Shaft, dat Kanbaru, shit's about to get real, and Senjougahara is the best character.
Cat lady is making a comeback.
She schooled the fuck out of 'gahara pretty hard at the end.

School Days is amazing. People understand it's reputation, they see the responses it generates, they watch the damn show and yet they continue on to the end, for some reason.

You have to admit they did things where other harem animes didn't. Nor should they. Ever.

hunter x hunter R 14-15

mmm.. so good, only a god like togashi could come up such a cleverly written exam arc, none of that ass pull magic comeback shit to be found.

Am bit weirded out by how much the remake anime has improved over the earler episode both in looks and atmosphere.

Kaiji S2 - 26 (END)

Gawdholydamn did they stretch this arc. 17 episodes! At least the payoff was quite good as a poster earlier in the thread mentioned. Really happy with how it all finished, although I wish
Endou gets bankrupt, damn ass. That's not how you go about showing that someone is naive!

Really hope there's a season 3. Consistently one of the best anime series. I guess they need to fix the pacing a little bit, but it's so awesome how they make every episode so thrilling despite dragging the arc for so long.

Now to watch...Macross Frontier? downgrade. And I need to find a new avatar.
