The Gingrich campaign statement from May sums up SC best. This was not about Newt and Romney. It was Newt vs. the establishment.

That doesn't even look like Gingrich. Looks more like Trump than anything.

I think really he's trying to hide how much he has donated to the Mormon Church. People know he donates to the Mormon Church, but it's an easy thing to isolate him on.

Everything about his low tax rate and his Cayman Island tax evasion money is something I firmly believes he thinks he could get around, but being a Mormon...

If anything he doesn't want it known that he doesn't tithe 10%.

This has to be about his tax rate. You'd think someone running for president for 6 years would be prepared for this; he could have payed the full rate for 3-4 years, released the statements, and killed this issue forever. I doubt such a stunt would hurt him considering he has a quarter billion dollar worth

Dude, cry some more. Some of us are sick of our leaders believing things for absolutely no reason and against all reason to the contrar.
And having an atheist option would automatically make things peachy? I'm sorry I'd rather have a theist President who doesn't interfere in your personal beliefs and worship than an atheist President who holds unfriendly views towards people of faith, such as yourself.

listening to Gingrich yelling at John King "how dare you bring that up in a presidential debate.."

YOU FUCKING IMPEACHED A PRESIDENT OVER SOMETHING EVEN MORE TRIVIAL YOU FAT LITTLE SHITBAG.

If Gingrich is going to go after Romney as a fat-cat, moderate, flip-flopper .. Romney needs to hit back with Newt being a gun-for-hire, defacto lobbyist for the past decade. Somebody that was in the pocket of orgs like Fannie and Freddie, if the price was right.

That should help at least keep the tea partiers at home, even if they don't vote for Romney.

He already has gone that route. Or at least someone has pulled that card out.

That is a useless line of attack since they have the fig leaf of bu-bu-bu-but he lied in a deposition. (A deposition that was never used in a trumped-up case.) (Edit: See . . . Bulbo just brought it up like clock-work. That is usually more of Kosmo's duty.)

I think the better argument is pointing out Gingrich's own moral hypocrisy. He wants to say gay marriage devalues marriage . . . really? Could they possibly devalue marriage more than you have?

Newt is a great representative for the rump-base of the GOP. It is unfocused anger that when you try to analyze it, it turns out to be self-contradictory and hypocritical. They are mad . . . when you try to draw out the reasons for the anger, they just don't make rational sense. It is an anger based in superstition, tradition, racism, tribalism, nostalgia, etc. They want things to be how they were in the past . . . but past wasn't good or fair for many people (blacks, gays, atheists, Jews, etc.) And the past just isn't possible in the modern world of energy depletion, cheap foreign labor, and increased diversity. The times they are a-changin'. Deal with it.

It'd be great to have a moderator fire back at him with something like "Look here, Mr. Gingrich. I tried to ask the question nicely and give you a chance to respond to just the allegations, but since you want to play hardball and play the victim here, I'm going to have to point out the verifiable contradiction in your morals. You crusaded against Bill Clinton while you yourself were having an affair. You've had more than just that one affair, and yet you seem to believe yourself to be a moral crusader for America. Could you explain to our viewers how your 3rd marriage has any sanctity left in it?"

Yes he does. That will help highlight how the race has become a two-way race between a corporate-raider that pays 15% tax on his millions and a corporate lobbyist willing to help nearly anyone as long as the checks were large and cleared.

Of course Obama is open to the same attack . . . he has been Wall Street's toadie. But as always, these elections end up as a lesser of evils pick.

I think he should just repeat the class envy/punishing success talking points that have been Republican talking points on this issue for a while can be extremely successful in the primaries.
And it's not like it's going to hurt him too much in the general election, don't get me wrong, I do believe that this position is an electoral liability for the GOP, but Mitt is all in on it anyway.

I don't think perjury and obstruction of justice is more trivial than an open marriage. But, tell us more.

The perjury and obstruction of justice were both related to his false and embarassing denial of Monica Lewinsky BJ. Unless you have some more evidence about Vince Foster and Whitewater, the wild goose chase the republicans spent your tax dollars on, if so, please do share.

Fucking embarassing way to view those events and you would be ashamed of yourself if you even had the gene that causes shame.

I see a lot of people talk about Intrade often.

Why are people paying attention to it?
The theory is that people who have some sort of accountability for their predictions are more likely to be correct... {snicker}

And having an atheist option would automatically make things peachy? I'm sorry I'd rather have a theist President who doesn't interfere in your personal beliefs and worship than an atheist President who holds unfriendly views towards people of faith, such as yourself.
Why would it matter if the president had unfriendly views about people of faith? I don't think it would be sensible for Obama to attack Romney on his Mormonism, though; it would seriously undermine his brand.

Agree with this for the most part. Gingrich is tapping into the frustration and anger.
And i just happened to be listening to The times they are a changin (for the first time in years) while reading your post. You watchin me?

I don't remember defending the investigations. I simply stated facts. Your post was a lie.

Mortrialus proselytizing again?

SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Yemen's president left his battered nation on Sunday, his spokesman said, after delivering a farewell speech in which he asked for forgiveness and said it was time to hand over power.

But in a sign that Ali Abdullah Saleh's role as a power broker in Yemeni affairs may be far from over, he said he would seek medical care in the United States, then return to Yemen before presidential elections next month to head his ruling party.

A senior Obama administration official says Yemen's outgoing leader has been cleared to come to the U.S. for a limited time for medical treatment. The official, was not authorized to discuss details and spoke on condition of anonymity, did not say when Saleh would arrive. Saleh requested a visa so he could travel to the U.S. last month.

I'm not so sure that was a good idea. Plenty of good places for treatment elsewhere and we have a really bad historical precedent with this. Granted, the situation is very different this time, but it doesn't make us look good there.

No it wasn't. Clinton was impeached over false statements about infidelity. Get a grip. They did a DNA test on his sperm. This is your team. Your team is shit.
My team will rise again from the shitter.
He lied in Federal court. There are, rightfully, punishments for that. He was found guilty of obstruction of justice in a sexual harassment suit (in which he eventually paid Jones $850,000) and was fined and disbarred and eventually impeached. Own up. His lies cost this country a great deal of money and time. But it's good that you place blame where blame lies-- on me.

what was the investigation supposed to be about again? and what happened to the economy after your team got in, speaking of money?

He's objectively right about the point. It's one thing to say you don't care, but why do you keep trying to change the subject? All you have to do is say "I don't care about him lying about a BJ", and 90% of the country will agree with you and you don't have to do some crazy mental gymnastics and play but but but you guys are lame bullshit games. Cmon now.

I already said that in my first reply.

The more I think about it, the more I'm sure Gingrich has always been employed by the progressive and liberal sections of the country. From his days besmirching the name of the Republican representatives, to giving the GOP a voice of anti-capitalist hysteria against Romney, all while highlighting the dual nature of the party in regards to the sanctity of marriage, he's a one-way freight train of antithetical reasoning.

They will make movies of this man for lighting the progressive flames of America, and the self-sacrifice that was his entire political life.

Or, you know, say he supported an individual mandate and was for cap n trade.

I'm still waiting to see how Romney does as a legitimate attacker, thus far it's mainly been his surrogates. He almost never wants to get his hands dirty. I understand previously it was because he wanted to seem like the inevitable nominee and not get down in the mud. But I'm not sure he can actually do it effectively without looking snide or snobby.

Do you think that trend holds up going forward? And do you think high turnout is good/bad for any candidate in particular?

I think it's going to hold up in the south and that it's going to favor Gingrich when it happens. The most interesting primary to me is going to be Texas. I think that's going to speak a lot to where the party is at (both in who they choose and what the turnout is).

That's a very astute observation. No one is really talking about that about that last bit. Can Romney actually attack? For Gingrich, it's as natural as signing a Tiffany's bill.

He was our buddy-buddy. We gave him military equipment and aide to fight against terrorists in Yemen. I think the Yemenis are more worried about sectarian violence with the Houthis in the north, and then there's the mess in the south.

The Jones lawsuit? Are you trying to say a President should be immune from civil suits? Not sure what your problem is.

Lesson for the youngsters. Don't lie in Federal court.

a suit which was dismissed. The money he paid was hush money. Nobody is disputing his lechery or bold faced lies. We are disputing the entire nature of the Starr investigation which was a partisan effort to artificially hurt a government that was doing very well in polling.

If you were falsely accused of murder but ended up being jailed on a completely unrelated court technicality you would be righly pissed off.

Gingrich helped engineer this fiasco with a demonstrated intent to hurt Democrats in the next election.

Is Clinton a moral shitheel and liar? Yes. Was this ever an appropriate use of government and 70 million dollars? Of course not.

Also he was acquitted by the Senate.

I missed quite a bit here, but is it Mitt's offshore accounts that allows him to pay 15%, or the fact that tax on capital gains is lower than on regular income?

Also, he should probably just claim that TurboTax made him do it.

I'm comfortable leaving it at that. Open-ended investigations are not a good thing.
This conversation is so 1990's that I had to put on some flannel.

I wonder if Perry's endorsement carries any weight there. You think this'll still be a contest in April? I suppose that depends on Gingrich's performance in Florida.

In Texas, I suspect it does. Though he was losing to Gingrich and Romney the last poll taken of Texas. Because he threw his support to Gingrich, I expect Gingrich to win handily if he holds on until then.
