This feels so random, but I laughed. I laughed a lot over the stupid stuff happening on screen.
Also, highschool girl reminds me a bit of Yui, so I already like her.

Same here. I was really glad the episode's end put it on the path of (potential) progress! ^^ And this whole love-line thing is really interesting to watch play out. I get the feel this show's gonna make me cry by the end. I haven't decided whether it will be a happy cry, a sad cry, or both. But crying will likely be involved. I'm pretty damn sure of that by now. ;_;

I need it to be next week already, I wanna know what happens next!

The Mugen Punch, that was epic, the legendary infinity fist, nice. I really like the cinematics. Almost seems on par with videogames truth be told. Dialogue was kind of cheesy, but I must admit, lovable.

Andy, Amata, Fudo Zen are my favorite characters, and Kagura.

Of course he doesn't even hold a candle to Fudo. Dude seems to have gotten even more badass after 12,000 years. And of course he has to be like
"fuck yo love, romance forbideen!"
at the end there. Love the guy.

Also, why the hell was Mii Plaza music playing at the hole fill scene 0_o

Lupin III 2

That wasn't nearly as good as the first episode. Not only is the directing more awkward, but the story was too ridiculous for what I want out of Lupin.
Even though there was a pseudo-scientific explanation for it, shooting fire out of your finger and having bullets bounce off you feels like a superhero world is invading this world of spies and thieves.
 
Gundam Seed HD 4

Is something wrong with Flay? Shes the worst type of anime character and she only had eight lines. I hope she remains far in the background. I hope Athrun and Kira make up, I hate seeing friends go separate ways and one, struggling to get his friend. Its so tragic.

Conflict through unvocalized misunderstandings is pretty cheap, but this show is still growing on me. The strong lighting that embeds itself in the show's visual style really works for me, and does a lot to sell the summer setting. I'm finding that my enjoyment of the episode increases the more Kanna is in the episodes, even if she has a chipmunk face sometimes.

Yeah, she's definitely an 8/10 on my unofficial :cajun scale (I'll leave cajunator to create the official scale since it is his namesake being invoked after all).

The photograph was very nice, though I wonder how she took it? Must be taking classes from Tomoyo. XD

I remember picking up a Pokemon manga once in the hospital that was comic book sized. I think they used to do that back in the day when they used to publish left to right manga.

Mirai Nikki 15

Opening was hot, Ending theme was decent, animation was interesting. I feel as if there were characters not yet introduced in the Opening though, oh well hot song.

Anime made me jump in fright, Yuno is so scary, especially http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ly9lf7oNSv1qcsnnso1_500.gif regardless, she was great fending off all those knives and even fire fighting. I wish Yuki wasnt so weak and pathetic, or at least had Kousaka and Akise always by his side, way more useful than those two girls. Im going to cry if they die by the end of the anime :(

I think Viz did that with some of their manga like Dragonball circa 2000 and before. The first manga I ever owned was The Electric Tale of Pikachu around that time and I remember there being a lot of ads for DB in the back of the book.

Normally that would annoy the hell out of me, but since they resolved it in the same episode I can't complain. It's not like other shows where the misunderstandings drag on for episodes at a time, which is what I was expecting.
 
I am okay with Penguindrum getting in the top three, considering Madoka was obviously win and Isagi Drop is class.

Steins;Gate is too high. Thank God Penguindrum beat it.

Technically, it's a TV pilot for a series that never got off the ground, but the quality is well above average for an episode of a 70s children's TV show - though, to be frank, I have not seen a lot of 70s children's TV show pilots - for the animation is surprisingly pretty and smooth (smokestacks, cloth, etc) with great backgrounds throughout. I only watched it because it was produced by Sanrio, they of the also good Sea Prince & The Fire Child and the classic Ringing Bell, and I'm glad I did. A little gem.

Wow!!! I thought the mystery around the girl was intense but
death in episode 3, bloody, and of the umbrella variety blew my mind. I didnt sign up for this if it means characters around main character will die. Teshigawara!!! The order of characters in the ending?

This anime is scaring me and I cant stop watching.
 
Maria Holic 5-6 -- Overall, not quite as good as the first four episodes.

Specifically, ep. 6 was better than ep. 5; 5 is the weakest episode so far, I thought. That whole segment through the first half of the show was overdone and never very funny, and while the second half was better, it didn't make up for the weak first part.

As for ep. 6, I do think that the show is overusing the "nosebleed" jokes... I've never been a fan of nosebleed stuff to begin with, but seriously, it's a bit overdone. Sure, the fact that here there are actually consequences -- she ends up in the clinic after major nosebleeds -- is kind of amusing, but still, I just think it's a kind of stupid thing. The episode was mostly funny anyway though.

I liked the B Gata H Kei manga, but haven't watched the anime... I know the anime doesn't get anywhere near the end of the manga, unfortunately, though.

It's funny, because from my experience at least, all of those yuri mecha shows this season feel like they took the typical shounen mecha formula and then swapped the male lead for a female lead just to make it different.

Heck, if they just took IS and made Ichika a girl, you'd have one of these shows. Instead of a harem vying for penis, it'd be a bunch of girls trying to be female-Ichika's "best friend" or something.

Strangely enough, all of this faux-yuri makes me curious about Tiger and Bunny how the yaoi in that series is presented. I want to believe that all this yuri robot action is a response to the success of the yaoi in T&B, but I suppose more realistically, it's a combination of trying to outdo the yuri subtext (or just text) in Madoka and hitting the male robot fanboy demographic.

Also, anyone want to do Yuri Rankings for the big shows? Duckroll claims that BRS is the most yuri of them all, but until that airs, I figure it's Symphogear > Rinne > Pirates.

Symphogear isn't very good at all and Rinne is kind of boringly generic, so for me at least there's no question about which of those is best... but as far as yuri quotient, you might have it right there (though considering how ep. 1 of Symphogear started,
I don't exactly expect them to end up together...

Also, while there are some similarities to something like IS, apart from the harem thing (in US), Rinne has suggestions of a darker side that doesn't exist in IS, so they aren't entirely comparable.

(Dantalian has a few similarities to that, but it's also somewhat different too... at least that was a better show than Gosick for sure, though.)

Indeed, it was a pleasant surprise to see the jokes back to fashion after that horrendous first episode, as well as the awesome animation that comes with it. The plot reset is frustrating, because it doesn't really feel like they need to keep hashing the same plot to deliver the comedy... having hijinks while on the job, or separating it by days of normal adventures and days being wacky detectives feels like it would at least be a more progressing plot rather than just doing the exact same thing all over again.

Well, I agreed that it's annoying, but as I said, how would they continue with the "they've come way down in the world and are poor" humor if they had their powers back full time? Going on that I can see why they wouldn't, but I'd have liked at least some kind of excuse, I don't remember much of anything.

I've noticed alot of people slandering the show for not being what they thought it would be, and while it's understandable it's not the stupid FUCK YEAH, PIRATES IN SPACE that initial advertising implied, it IS being well paced and developed. Yes, it's slower than expected, but the pacing is pleasant and the progression satisfying enough. It makes you want to watch the next episode with how simple things such as a mast malfunction can create an interesting subject. It's not there yet, but it definitely feel like it pressing towards the action. Rather than Jamming it down our throats however, they're easing us into it, and I can't say I'm complaining. I agree with ABF on this one, it certainly is the most skillfully produced show this season. Though to be truthful, I haven't seen High School Boys yet...

Yeah, as my review made clear I really agree, it's a very good show. The slow, more "realistic" pacing and plot of episodes 2 and 3 has been a nice surprise, I wasn't expecting it to be like that and it's almost certainly made it a much better show than it otherwise would have been. I guess some people don't like that it's actually got depth and originality, and isn't just another show about flashy explosions all the time?

Rinne has more fanservice, but apart from that I can't think of much of anything it does better... it's not awful, but it's nothing great either.

It's definitely been slow going, but at the same time I appreciate the way they are easing into the action, and at least laying out a solid foundation for the show. I do hope to not see much of the maid cafe in the future, but ep. 3 was better about that than the first two episodes, so they're heading in the right direction on that at least.

Yeah, after ep. 1 I was pretty much expecting that bolded part, essentially, so as I've said, eps 2 and 3 have definitely been a surprise... I just think it's a good surprise. I mean, I found, say, as I mentioned after ep. 1, Coyote Ragtime Show, to be fun stuff, but I really like this direction and definitely find it interesting.

This has been way, way better than Broken Blade after 3 episodes. Like way, way, way better. Broken Blade was so somber as to be stifling, this show actually exudes a sense of fun which is often missing from mecha animes and SRS WORLD SAVING BSNS.

There was only one MARU! in this episode, though, and it was done while she was in the robot. I'm slightly disappointed by the lacking amounts of MARU! this time around.

Lan hints at something we might see later on, this show still has plenty of opportunities to turn SRS BSNS and dark later on, especially since Lan all but says out loud to herself that something terrible happens to pilots of the Vox mechas later on, like it drains their life force or someshit to power itself. And then Array is sitting in his cell inside the floating base musing about the legend of the Three Demons and how they will rape entire star systems and shit like that.

The motif with the chairs is pretty obvious now. In the second episode, the green char (Madoka) and the blue chair (Lan) are shown briefly far apart on the screen. In this episode, after they have bonded, the two chairs are shown briefly right next to each other. The orange chair isn't shown yet during the episode, as Third Girl hasn't entered the story yet other than a brief cameo while Madoka is lost on the floating base in episode 2, and then briefly at the end of this episode.

I didn't exactly see any yuri subtext, I mean compared to Symphogear the friendship between Madoka and Lan seems about as tame as they come.

I think that there's definitely yuri subtext, but it's probably the "never to be confirmed" kind, I think.
Oh, and yeah, the show's been hinting at a darker side since the first episode really.
 
Fairy Tail 49-50
Oh boy, I watched two episodes in a row!

Anyway, these were pretty much filler/tossing different parts of chapters together to make fun episodes. They pretty funny and a nice contrast from finishing an arc.
I liked episode 50 a lot more mostly due to all of Juvia's actions.

I actually read the manga just past where this episode ends, and it still was really fucking awesome to see it get animated, especially
the gory death by umbrella scene at the end.
I'm sorry, if you are bored by this show then quite frankly you are entirely defective. The last episode used the creepy music a bit more excessively than necessary to cover up that the material was mostly set-up and explanations, this episode dials the music down because quite frankly it wasn't necessary. The material stood on it's own in every scene.

I will say that you can't complain about anything in this show if you can claim to like garbage like Bakamono, because this show uses all kinds of interesting shot framing during this episode. Interestingly enough, it's pretty much the anti-Shaft, because the framing intentionally avoids showing eyes during convos, exactly the opposite of the constant framing of eyes that Shaft seems obsessed with. You see that throughout Kouichi's conversation with Mei inside the doll shop after they leave the basement. The camera shows the dolls, it shows the old woman's counter, it shows a pulled-back shot with thems sitting in the background, it shows the bodies and moving mouths of Mei and Kouichi, it shows their legs shifting during the conversation. It only shows their eyes at the very end, when they are reaching the climax of the explanation.

Incidentally, if you weren't paying close attention during that conversation, you really should. Because what Mei was explaining was merely half of what you should have taken away from the conversation. I will however, leave you with one question and you can try to find the answer for yourself if you care enough. The entire conversation provides you with more than enough clues to determine the correct answer. Question:
Where was the old woman who owns the doll shop and what was she doing during that entire conversation?

I've begun to notice a very distinct pattern in terms of material that is cut going from manga to anime. I believe it is entirely intentional what they are cutting. Whoever is in charge of the scripting of the anime is behaving entirely rationally in what he is cutting. Some things which are being explicitly explained in the manga are intentionally being left out of the anime. It's been pretty interesting thus far reading the manga alongside anime episode airings but I'll probably stop at this point so I can just enjoy what the anime is showing me.

Oh, right. For those who weren't paying close-enough attention while Mei was showing us what was under the eyepatch:
She tells us that the eye isn't just a fake or artificial eye. It lets her "see things which should be unseen." So, uh, Mystic Eyes of Death Perception anyone? It's not just a doll's eye as someone was saying earlier. However, note that the doll which looks like Mei has green eyes, the same as her fake eye.

I like MARU! but the best show of this year is undoubtedly the one which I'm writing too damn much about right now.

This is entirely true, yeah. The new movie designs still aren't its equal for sure, though it might be a slight improvement over the Blood-C Saya.

Seems like it partially delivered.

The manga's 4koma style seemed to lend better to the delivery of the humor of the series than in continuous anime form. Agreed that the series as a whole isn't wholly that noteworthy to begin with though.

True, though episodes two and three (of Space Pirates) do seem to have added a bit more character to the lead, so she, like the show, isn't as generic now as they were in the first episode. The show more so than the character, perhaps, but her to some degree as well.

But for the most part, the characters in the series seemed to stray away from the more obvious traits thus far, and hopefully they'll be able to develop into interesting ways as the series progresses.

You're right, the maid cafe could have pandered a whole lot more than it did. They did take a somewhat classier approach towards it. Still... it's a maid cafe. Just by existing it panders, really.

Overall the show definitely focuses on the classier side, which is probably why that somewhat stands out, particularly at the beginning. (Oh, and yeah, those zero-G magic skirts are impressive. :) )

Both Onegai Teacher and Twins had such stupid plots, and so much fanservicey junk too, without any redeeming value most of the time...

That's about where my rating of the series is at right now. There is no doubt that Pirates has the greater potential and is the more interesting show at the moment. Though Lagrange does have the advantage that it at least satisfies with the mecha action immediately.

Well, I'm sure that people that love mecha shows are enjoying Rinne a lot more than I am, but that's never exactly been one of my favorite genres, and I'm already so uninterested I doubt I'll be watching it any more, probably.

I missed this reply somehow, before... glad I found it now. FIrst, for the second season, sure, it is a re-introduction, but while that could excuse some repetition, the first season's first episode was quite a bit better than this one too, so that's not entirely an excuse. And the episode doesn't really introduce you to any of the characters or any of the plot from season one, either; it seems to just assume that you've watched it recently and can remember. I'm sure that that is not always true.

I did watch the OVA a little earlier today. I did expect it to be a Kokoro centric episode and in that it delivered fully. Quite an enjoyable interlude between seasons.

Yeah, it was a fun little in-between episode, I agree. Poor Kokoro, I guess... :) I think much of the first season was better, but it's certainly better than ep. 1 of season 2.

Well I'm glad something happened.
I hope this show is going to be more than Final Destination-ish deaths because the Final Destination movies aren't scary they're hilarious, but still I came for a horror anime and it has yet to deliver on that
