The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

I can't imagine Golden Abyss would have a multi that's anywhere close to what U2 or U3 has. I wouldn't get my hopes up. Probably asynchronous time trials.

Just tried out the Sumioni demo that is on JPSN, seems pretty cool. I am glad it is getting localized.

cool. i really hope all the demos that japan has gotten so far are available on psn at time of launch here in the us. but who am i kidding. there is no way that grace chen would allow that. it would be way to nice.

I have no idea what's going to happen, but Bend had several good online games for PSP.
The two Syphon Filter games for PSP had incredibly robust online modes, and even had voice chat and lobbies back when most developers forgot the PSP even had infrastructure mode. So I was really surprised when I found out this game had no online - hopefully that's remedied for the NA launch via patch.

If Bend has found the time to implement a MP component for western release (something that would make the price tag less ridiculous, but not by much, fwiw) I hope they wised and revised the controls as well.

I'm not sure how overblown the complaints were, but trying to imagine a decent, synchronous, competitive MP with the persistence of those issues is not easy at all.

wait excuse the fuck out of me? Not up to par with the console versions? Have you played the Resistance Retribution multiplayer?

That was a pretty good multiplayer and that was for the psp.

Am 3 trophies away from Platinum in Virtua Tennis. This say a lot about this game due to the fact that i own over 60 PS3 games my highest trophy completion is about 58% on any of them.

I plan to double-dip on this.. Liked what I saw on various Vita- AR-modes, and first person tennis, seemed hard, but pretty cool. :P

Do you know if there are differences from the console-version in the campaign, like posiibility to buy new player-outfits and similar?

So does anyone know if psone classics will be playable at any point in time? I know they won't be at launch, but did Sony ever mention that they would eventually come?

You would think so, as they could just emulate the PSP emulating the PS1 games.

But maybe Sony is holding it back trying to push sales of Vita software?

Another thing that will save Vita (in Japan):

Using the PSP emulator would mean you wouldn't be allowed to use the second analog stick, or map R2/L2 commands somewhere else.

As for your second comment, it's kind of silly. There aren't any PS1 remakes on Vita so there's no point in locking them out.

I honestly have no idea. I have the ps3 version but only use online. I'm pretty sure that campaign is identical. Most of the trophies are different which is good but everything else apart from the new modes seem the same. However, playing this game on a handheld is so much better than having to boot up the ps3 just to play it.

Vodafone rep said they will announce their plans for the 3G in the coming days here in Oz. He said that one plan includes a free Vita and 1.5Gb data. Similar plans for the Galaxy Tab here run for $39/mth and that's more expensive hardware. Given this will also include a free copy of Wipeout, I'm tempted.

It would remap the second stick to the face buttons, like any other PSP game. Not perfect, but better than not being able to play PS1 games at all...which is the case with the Vita for the foreseeable future, it seems.

But I really do think that they are deliberately locking it out. I mean, really, they could figure out how to emulate PSP games on it, but not PS1, a much simpler system?

Back titles do likely cannibalize software sales a little, and Sony is likely worried about Vita software not selling very well at retail (since that was the case with the PSP in NA). So they are giving it a little boost at launch by not having PS1 support, as well as not bringing out PSSuite right away.

Is it basically all touch controls?
I'd say there's a surprisingly small amount of touch controls aside there aside from drawing platforms/damaging fire lines/summoning a big bird. You can also tap the screen for attack but I kind of felt that controlling the character completely with face buttons feels more natural.

That's good to know. It was one of the games that actually caught my interest because it looked so different. I'll definitely try the demo when the Vita comes out here next month. So close, yet so far.

Really want a Vita on the UK release but stumped over the WIFI vs WIFI/3G option.
I primarily play at home with my wireless connection but if I travel then I might need the 3G.
I've never owned an iPad so never had to think about this before.

Do you have a phone that has tethering?

I suspect I'll be going back and forth on this as well up until I actually get one. Common sense says that wifi will be fine, but there's that little voice in my head that's saying "What if they make a game that plays better with that GPS in the 3G chip?"

So I don't know what I'll do. I suspect maybe I'll trade in my PSP to Gamestop and use that trade-in credit to just upgrade my paid off wifi model to the 3G one.

If the extra £50 isn't an issue then I'd say it's worth it for the 3G just in case (this is what I'm doing). I'm far from convinced that I'll ever need to use 3G (though the Near stuff sounds cool), but I'd kick myself if I do and I didn't have it available!

Still eagerly awaiting Vodafone pricing, and expecting to be bitterly disappointed on that front.

Can't believe it. Just found out that my boss knows someone in Sony and he's going to an event on Friday in the belief that he'll get one for free. He's not even a gamer! Agh!
£50 unfortunately is a bit of a jump for me as I'll be looking around for the money for a memory card.

Do you have a phone that has tethering?

I've an iPhone 4.

If money's an issue then it's hard to justify the extra cost as you say, particularly with the gouging on memory cards. Sticking with a 16GB for that purely because I actually see most of my purchases coming in retail format (had initially expected to do more DD).

Than you don't need the 3G version. Just tether it to your phone.

I don't know about your iPhone but you can't always leave something tethered to your iPhone. Like wouldn't the only reason to get a 3G vita be if you actually wanted to be notified about friends message, when its your go in games and near?

That wouldn't happen automatically unless you left it tethered to your phone 24/7. Its not that cut and dry.

How big of an area does it pic up? I loved getting a whole bunch of Miis on the 3DS when I last was in San Francisco. Unfortunately my town is too small and full of too many old people to really take advantage of the location features at home. I'm still getting the 3G model since I'm sure I'll want to use it eventually.

Would love to see some PSN games get a Vita release in the near future.

I really want Street Fighter III: Online on the go.

Thought the demo was pretty fun.. not sure I'd buy it full price if it was released in the West

Quick update for those interested in NEAR

live/work central london - 153 people nearby gaming so far... can only imagine the numbers when this gets released here...

That's a good number. I wonder how big of an area it covers.
