The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

We were given a code to put into PSN on our PS3s (I'm the only one in store with a PS3.... yeah I know... 1/7 staff with a PS3) - then we can download the Vita games onto the PS3 and transfer them back onto the Vita itself.

wow lucky you, doesnt that mean you have all of those now tied to your account ?

Have you played much of Unit 13? What are your thoughts on it?

I've been playing all the tutorials for games so I have something to chat to customers about tomorrow - I was surprised by Unit 13 though, in a good way. I mean it looks pretty uninspiring - but it handles really nicely and outside of the 'snap' mechanic, which is a little auto-aim for my liking, it's actually pretty fun. It also has online co-op (which I didn't know) and would probably be pretty fun doing so as well.

My local Gamestop had their demo pod thingie in today but had not set it up yet. I'm going to try and pop back in tomorrow and check it out. I used to be the ASM there until I got my current job (much better job) so the manager and I are still friends and I will hit him up for as much info as I can.

Apparently some Gamestop's are also getting demo units. If anyone runs across one, can you post where, and impressions?

does this mean that if we buy vita games using different accounts on ps3, we can transfer them to a single account on vita and tie them to that vita account??

you can use the same psn account so with the vita so whatever psp games or videos or vita-compatible psn games that you buy on the ps3 store side should be tied to that same account.

posted some in the previous page, i didnt have much to say since i didnt get to play for long

The PS Blogcast this week mentioned that most Gamestops should be getting demo units in the next week then Best Buy and Sony stores will be getting them.

Anyone who has seen one of these demo units, what games does it have?

fifa, wipeout 2048,gravity rush, uncharted, katamari and 2 or 3 others that i don't remember. It had no apps other than the video app.

Dragon's Crown, P4U, Malicious, Ragnarok Odyssey, Time Travelers and Gravity Daze are all Collector's Edition Purchase tier. Everything else that's out looks meh, especially that Tales game which I expected more of. Dynasty Warriors look cool, hopefully we'll get Monster Hunter MMORPG for Vita.

so for example we cant do this?
buy Vita games from US PS3 account, transfer to EU Vita account and tie the games to that vita acc.

I wasn't interested in Vita at launch, but then I saw the hacked ps3 playing Battlefield 3 and I realized that maybe I need this asap! If sony supported that game officially I would be there day1!

You think games like Uncharted, WipEout 2048, and Rayman Origins are "meh"? Because there's a difference between "meh" and "not my style of game".

no since the game is tied to your account when you buy it. So it would be tied to the us account.

Gravity Rush!? Looks like I gotta find one of these demo units.

yes and after playing it, im more hyped than ever. I hope the final game is at least 9-10 hrs long.

No, no I mean "meh" as in not my style... or in terms of Ray Man and Uncharted, "meh" as in I've already played those games too much. I'm more interested in new IPs tbh.

Oh, okay, gotcha. I could see Uncharted especially being a little too much from having played the last three games. I'm kind of in that boat, as well. I would like to see some more new IPs for sure.

We've seen absolutely nothing of the Vita version, lol.

Sony should buy Alvion. Just do it. Make them make Gravity Rush sequels until the end of time.

there's a bunch of studios SCEJ should have bought. Gust is one example, at least they'd have a rpg studio and I'm sure Gust would do great things with an expanded budget. I still can't believe they haven't bought clap handz.

I'm sure he would love to test that out for you!

With a store demo, unless it has a screen protector, it will very soon become apparent (probably on day 1) whether the screen scratches easily or not. People beat the crap out of demo units, and with a touchscreen its even worse.

Awww yeah. Just arrived in Australia. Delivery Monday morning. My AU-PSN bought copy of Monster Hunter FU won't be able to be copied to the Vita via my ps3 until the AU Vita store is up, right?

Either way, I'll just occupy myself with the Wipeout demo :P

Just got a Vita. Anyone know a way to get it to charge via USB on a Mac? I know it's not supported but when I plugged it in the first time, it charged. I tried again just recently and it won't charge. What gives?
Turn it off and plug it in, should charge. And by "turn off" I mean completely, hold the power button until the turn off question.

Thanks! Is that the only way to charge it via USB? Sounds really inconvenient.
Sadly, yes, this is the only way. Someone claimed that it charges normally even if it's on and that there's just no indication anywhere, but even if that's true I doubt it'd work on a Mac.

What would your opinion on UC golden abyss be? What is deprived from the games graphics in order to make you have fun?

its missing pixels. it has aliasing. i can forgive the noticeably lower poly count. but games like virtua tennis and fifa just look way better and run at full native res. i do like the physics uncharted has though. i hope resistance isnt sub native. i can forgive the seemingly low frame rate.

Well the PSP screen would scratch when using the cleaning cloth. I was lucky because I had the dead pixel problem and when I got my new one I slaped a hori on it as soon as I opened the box. I wasnt asking him to try and scratch it but was asking if light scratchs show with regular use.

Damn, I just got to play on a vita for the first time and play the gravity daze demo. Makes me want one again. Trying to hold out for the price drop.

This might sound like a stupid question but would online ranking / profile be stored on the PSN for a game? I want to sell my Japanese copy of Virtua Tennis and buy the Australian copy when it comes out here. Would my online leader board ranking and wins/losses ratio continue when I play online or is this stored with the save?

It only charges while off when plugged in to a computer. If plugged in to the wall adapter it gets more power than a PC (or Mac) provides via USB and will happily charge while on or off.

Well, yeah. But the question was about plugging it to a Mac. ;d

Mac USB ports provide the identical amount of power as PC USB ports. Should be no different. The Vita would be off, so it's not like it would fail because the Mac can't mount the device. Maybe I wasn't following the discussion very well. I was just trying to point out that, technically speaking, the Vita is always charging via USB. The AC adapter literally has a USB port on it. So the only difference is how much power a specific USB port can provide. If it's enough, like a wall adapter, the Vita can be powered up. If it is no enough, like a Mac or PC port, it needs to be powered down.

I was referring to a different thing though. One person here claimed that he played MonHan 3rd for 10 (?) or something hours while the console was plugged to his PC, but there was no indication whatsoever that it's charging. What I meant was that it should be possible to charge the Vita with a Mac while the console is off, but don't know if that "weird" charging-without-no-indication-whatsoever way will work. Still, Sony should do something about both Mac compatibility and the ability to charge it via PC while it's on.

Ah, I think what happens in that case is the USB port provides almost enough power to actually run the Vita while in operation. So the combined power between USB and the existing charge on the battery could make it last for a long time while plugged in. But it wouldn't be "charging" in the sense of increasing the stored charge in the battery. With the Vita off and no power being used all the electricity coming through the USB goes right into the battery. Charging through a PC while on is never something Sony can fix because the current model Vita will always use more power than the USB port can provide. Mac and PC will be no different from a power perspective. But I do hope Sony has the Mac management software ready for the US launch.

Decided to cancel my First Edition Bundle and order the Launch Bundle. I added WipeOut to my order, and I figure I'll go find a case I want at a shop nearby. So for the same price (probably a little less), I'm getting the contents of the FEB (case/game) and a larger memory card.

Changed my pre-order to a 3G model. I don't want to use Vodaphone however, i'd prefer '3' as their coverage seems to be the best looking at several coverage maps on the internet, especially in my city (UK based btw). Am i right in thinking i can choose one of these to buy.....

....pop it into the Vita and Bobs your Aunties lover, its good to go? Are there any 'pay as you go' options as i have a fear of contracts?!
