I'd rather wait until they show a PV for this one. The character design "tease" isn't bad, but something tells me that it won't be another Mononoke/Trapze:

Young Kanade is pretty awesome. Would be nice if she was the lead instead.

Some nice animation during the fight despite a few rough spots here and there. Cool tactics from Tsubasa at the end there and that one shot with her
bleeding from the mouth and eyes
sure was something.

Hopefully Hibiki stops sucking and/or uses more of her heartless mode. At least the former might be possible if the credits montage is anything to go by.

Sailor Moon 40

So it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. Yet again. But this time I will persevere. Probably. Maybe.

I really feel bad for Usagi’s dad. Dude is always working his balls off for his family and none of them seem to really give a damn. His daughter is desperately trying to lose her virginity with any man who dares look at her, his wife puts up the facade of loving and caring but clearly doesn’t give a damn and his son (who happens to be an adorable shota) would rather play with his Gameboy than hang with pops.

And then it only got worse in this episode. Poor guy. Even Usagi takes pity for her papa at the end of the episode.

One thing really struck me towards the end of this episode. How the entire crew can literally do nothing with Usagi unless they actually change their mindset or something else gets introduced.
Usagi should have logically ran with her family back to the inn, both to protect them and to protect her own identity.
And yet she didn’t
because if she wasn’t there fighting the “youma” (I’m not even going to ask what the fuck was up with that whole its not a youma but yet it basically is scene) then the rest of the cast literally has no way of eliminating the problem in a relatively peaceful fashion (they could always just go the curbstomping to death route).

Basically one of the other girls kind of have to step up their game and be able to fill in as the leader when Usagi is unavailable. It hasn’t happened. I just hope they don't end up paying dearly for banking on El Capitan so much later down the road.

All in all a pretty enjoyable episode. In terms of the story nothing really important, the continuation of Tuxedo Mask facing inner conflict and Usagi head over heels in love (but seemingly legitimately this time). The content was weak but the execution was strong, there were a lot of cool visual effects I can’t recall being done in the episode before, with the scene involving the flashy colors (see above) being the most noticeable. Felt like a really strong acid trip, crazy stuff especially with the soundtrack behind the scene in itself.

But that song at the end of the episode was awful. Not even endearing early 90s pop music cheesy awful, just genuine awful. Thankfully it wasn't too long.

The show has to wrap up at some point, theres only six episodes to go in this season so I can’t imagine there are too any pointless relatively filler episodes left.

Super Robot Wars OG The Inspector 2-5

Plot stripped down from the games so far as to be expected, the show remains equal parts fanservice/robots wrecking shit. And aw hell, it's hard to hate on Ryusei so much now that he's been given some proper super robot pilotin' sideburns.

K-On!! 5

The directing and composition of this episodes was really well done. There was even a very Sakuga moment in the batting cage! I hope there's more of Jun and Ui later on in the show.

Fafner 23:

Michio got MASSIVELY TROLLED. SHEEEEEIIIIIIIIT. Looks like Kanon and Maya both got added to the body count this episode, and pretty unspectacularly at that. With everyone remotely sympathetic dead, I suppose I can make it through whatever half-baked, convoluted finale they manage to cook up and not give a shit what happens to anyone.
This show, man. This show.

Fafner 24:

Wait,
Maya and Kanon aren't dead? But they both took direct hits from Fenrirs. Seriously, show
? At least we finally got a halfway-comprehensible explanation of the Festum's motives, even though it took THE ENTIRE SERIES.
Akane-Festum's infodump of omniscience
was kind of ridiculous, but let's face it:
everyone would be totally fucked for the final battle without some sort of deus ex machina.
And they very well may still be.
That ending was a little too optimistic.

Fafner 25 (END):

I.....uhh......umm.......yeah. This was actually an hour-long episode, so there was twice the amount of confusing bullshit to interpret. This was only a satisfying conclusion in the most basic sense, but other than that it was the eye-glazing culmination of every poorly-explained term and plot point thrown out over the course of the show.
I still don't know what the fuck a Mir is. I thought I had it figured out when Tsubaki described it as something akin to an intangible, omnipresent entity or mind or somesuch that has some kind of relationship with the Festum and can influence life in the material realm, but when the battle starts the Mir is...........some kind of Festum pyramid on the North Pole with an elevator to space. Or the black Fafner that got possessed by the Festum that materializes as some random dude. Or.........I don't even know what.

What I did gather from the finale:
Kazuki and co. beat the final boss, the threat of the belligerent Festum is over, wham, the end.

Soukyuu no Fafner - Final Impressions

I suck at informed-sounding criticism but I'll give this a try.

This was a generally sub-par series. It had a bland protagonist, poorly-used supporting characters, badly-defined antagonists, ugly animation and a plot that collapsed under the weight of its own unexplained terminology and cryptic metaphysical nonsense. The definition of terms and rules of the show's universe seemed to change freely from episode to episode, whether to serve a given plot point or pad out the conflict between humans and Festum when needed. It's fine for a show to leave plot points and revelations hanging until the end of the series because revelation in and of itself can be a powerful climax, but it's far less okay for a show to leave explaining basic things necessary to understand parts of the show in the first place until the very end. Fafner did a very poor job in this regard.

Characters often made alarmingly-stupid decisions in order to induce tragedy, and then other "tragedies" like
Tsubaki's physical manifestation having a short lifespan or Soshi's assimilation in the finale
were nebulous in relation to the plot and weren't necessitated by the rules of the universe, feeling instead like they happened just to happen. This severely dulled the impact of emotional moments. Characterization was really uneven and was generally
ramped up right when a character was about to die, which isn't uncommon but is always cheap.
The mecha action was also completely lacking in noteworthiness, with no real choreography or creativity. Fights merely lasted as long as they had to in order to pad the episode out and then end with a single blow.

I really wanted to like the series, but it wasn't meant to be. It was obviously tolerable enough for me to finish, but consistently felt lacking throughout. Avoid unless you're really bored or doing a themed marathon like all series with Hirai designs. At least it looks like my Geneon boxset is really valuable. Time to ebay it and get a couple of Vita games!

Amagami SS (Riihoko's Arc)

As I suspected...

Rihoko is not fat at all

Rihoko is by far the best girl in the show.

HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG

Also I watched a bit of Nanaka 6/17 and it is an absolutely adorable show.

This is what I kinda agree about. The series was just bland. It was no Linebarrels but something about it never took off and it just forced tragedy and stuff down your throat. I do like some of the
metaphors in line with people's deaths like Shoko dying in the sky and Mamoru dying while protecting people. Indeed, those were incidentally the only 2 deaths that I cared about (the former more than the latter but only because I watched Right of Left first).

I need to start watching old mecha anime. It's been a while since I was on a mecha kick.

I do like his sister who is always saying nishishi or whatever.
Personally though I'd just stick with Rihoko and feed her cake all day.

By the way, can somebody post that pic of Rihoko nibbling on his finger that was posted here earlier?

Shin Mazinger Z 18

Aw man,
Yasu and Cross died :(. I knew it was coming with the former, but that doesn't make it any less sad. He was my favorite of the Kurogane 5 personality-wise.

And poor Ashura. He/she may be some weird hermaphrodite thing with two halves of a body glued together, but I still think he/she deserves a hug for all this crap :(

WAIFU.

Kaoru > Rihoko > Tsukasa > Nishishi > Ai > Haruka > Risa > Sae.

You know, I have a feeling that
their deaths were written first and their names were worked out backward from there to give the illusion of symbolism, hah. I'll admit to being touched on some level by pretty much every death in the series, I just went into the show expecting anyone to die at any time so my thoughts were more "what a waste of a good character" than anything.

And yeah, I don't think that Shoko's death would have meant nearly as much to me if I hadn't seen Right of Left first as well. Thanks for telling me to do that!
I think I'm mecha'd out for the time being, though.

Seriously that show has the strangest definition of "fat" I have ever seen.

She just looks broad-shouldered or something. And she has kind of a round face. Especially in that dress with the waistband she wears in SS+, she doesn't look heavier than the other girls at all.

I kind of wish she actually did. It's her charm point, dammit!

Persona 4 15

Man, Chihiro, so much better in P4.
That was pretty much P3 music overload. Seeing as I was playing P3P a little while back, just hearing all that music was just a treat.

Glass Fleet 6

Cleo remains awesome and the show is staying fun despite the god awful space battles. Hell of a choice for Michel to make at the end but the real question is: since when was decompression an issue?

The abridged version of that episode is incredibly amazing.

Ya'll are amagami hipsters. Sae is the bestestest heroine.

Crippling shyness moe?

...and I just noticed the controversial anime opinions thread in OT. As a new AnimeGAF member, there's no way I'm exposing all of my bad taste this early. You're all going to have to find out the hard way :p

If I posted my anime collection, you would certainly learn how bad anime tastes can be.

I think I'm pretty tolerant in that regard. One of my best friends buys anime indiscriminately whether he actually likes it or not and even I did that for a while, you (presumably) at least have hnnnnnnnnngh to guide your purchases!
