What the hell is Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs" music video about?
It's taken from a short film made for the album

MUBI said:
Synopsis

Director Spike Jonze teams up with Arcade Fire to create a thirty-minute short film inspired by their critically acclaimed album, The Suburbs, and its themes of war and coming of age in suburbia. Co-written by Jonze & Arcade Fire’s Win Butler & Will Butler, this companion piece to the album follows the narrator, living in a suburban dystopia, trying to piece together fragmented memories from when he was a teenager, and his experiences with his friends as they grow apart. –SXSW

will a 6 pack of beer 2 nights a week kill me eventually? Sobriety sucks I feel like I'm going to crack.

I'm not a doctor, but from what I've gleaned: Moderate drinking (ie. a beer or two with a meal) is fine, and might actually be good for you; binge drinking is bad. So try to spread out those six beers to cover the entire week.

I don't know where you are, I know Sky's own service is better on the mainland. I'm in NI and when we had Sky it was horrendous, the 10MB was capped between 4pm and 12AM. It was just grim. On the other hand we now have 30MB Virgin. Today I DL'd about 15GB of stuff super fast, I DL a lot and never have problems. Virgin are also doubling all their customers speeds at no extra cost over the next 18 months. Should be July in my area, so 60MB here I come.

Sky's TV service is better than Virgin IMO, but only marginally, not enough to make me pay more having a separate package for the Sky TV and Virgin internet.

Scotland

Will have a looksie at Virgin

lol ended up passing out for the night, beer drinking avoided. Can't wait until humans evolve to the point where binge drinking is healthy.
Well beer is just bad for you anyway. Not all alcoholic drinks are equal.
There's "healthier" alcoholic drinks?

Critter-GAF: What's some good bait to use to trap a raccoon? I've got one shimmying up my downspout and trying to burrow into my attic (we came face-to-face one time when I went exploring up there... I scared him away for a while, but now he's back). Any general tips with live-trapping a raccoon would be appreciated as well.

Feed it pizza.

Is it weird to go eat at restaurants alone? It's become somewhat of a hobby to go try food at various restaurants but whenever I mention that I usually go to these places alone, they look at me weird, especially when they are somewhat fancy expensive places (the one I'm about to go to will be like 100 bucks total for the appetizer, entree, and desert).

I know tons of people who can't eat alone, even in their own houses. I know girls who can't go outside to get the mail without first putting makeup on. And that seems to be the general consensus.

I say who cares? I personally started doing things alone because I didn't want to cancel plans whenever a friend couldn't go, and i have a lot of fun always.

not always

I don't know if there's a security issue with google docs or something but I just got some scatter plot spreadsheet shared with me by people who I don't know. I googled their names and they show up as random facebook/google+ accounts not linked to anybody I know as far a I can tell.

I emailed the owner of the file, who apparently posts a lot on the Google docs help forums, asking if he thinks he somehow shared the file on accident with some random person on the internet or if he actually thinks there might be a security leak problem.

Is there anything else I should do before hearing back from him?

Has the planet warmed up in the last fifteen years?
It has warmed up less during the last fifteen years than during the last 100 years. Have you been reading climate change denialist propaganda?

What is the appeal of concerts? I have never been to one and I have no desire to see any of my favorite musical artists perform live.
It depends what kind of music you listen to. For instance, hip-hop concerts are almost always awful while jazz concerts tend to be amazing. If you appreciate the art of making music, it's usually enjoyable to watch talented musicians creating music in real-time. It might also be fun the hear alternate versions of your favorite songs. Here's an example of a good concert, where the music quality is on par with the CD recording.

If an atheist goess to court to give evidence and is made to swear on the bible... are they not lying from the off and therefore their whole testimony null and void??

It's probably a stupid question but I got an Apple TV and a Mac Mini in my room.
I have 2 Apple Remotes and I want one to control Eye TV and Plex on Mac and the other remote to control my Apple TV. Is that possible?

Everytime I control one, it messes up the other device. So the remote actually controls both units at once, and I don't want that to happen. =/

Went to Beethoven late last year. Drank beer. Ate a delicious burger. Sat in amazingly comfortable seat. Admired gorgeous women in splendid dresses. Was completely goddamn blown away not only by the music but by the spectacle of immense dexterity. Lead violinist doesn't motherfucking play around.

For me its just the energy of it all - the music and the crowd. Hearing Tool's Parabola on an iPod compared to hearing it performed live are completely different. The energy of the band performing, the music shaking the ground, the crowd surging around, its an amazing experience.

If I visited enough Japanese sites, would Google ads eventually turn Japanese for me on other sites, such as GAF, as well? I have been accidentally watching streams at ja.twitch.tv for two months and I am getting a Japanese ad on this page right now, so I'm kind of wondering if it is a coincidence.

This is really a stupid question but how do taxes work (Canada). Im a student and work part-time on minimum wage. I got my T4 and it showed:
- Employment income: 7959
- Employee's CPP contributions: 227
- Employee's EI premiums: 141
- Income tax deducted: 14.50

So when I give this T4 to my parents, I get a check back later on right? But will I only get $14.50 back...

Man I'm so uneducated when it comes to these things, if someone can point me to the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

You don't get deductions back unless you overpaid. When you pay deductions out of your paycheck, you're estimating how much you will owe by the end of the year. Ideally you won't owe anything and you won't get anything back.

If you had worked in the US, you would probably get it back since your yearly income was so low.

Oh nice, cool thanks

How is it that some of my friends have, say around $2000 more income than me and they recieve back like $300-500 from "tax refunds" as they say

Target has this deal where if you buy any one of Soul Calibur V, FF13-2, or Skyrim, you will get a $20 gift card per copy purchased. Is there anything stopping me from buying one game and getting a gift card, applying that gift card towards another copy (that also gets a gift card), then returning the first copy with the second gift card? I just want a game for $40 and rarely buy anything at Target.

Is there a hobby plant thread anywhere here?

I keep a lot of carnivorous plants and was curious if there was one...

Edit: should I/ could I make one?

There /was/ one, but with search down I can't point you to it, I'd wait a day or two till we get search back, and if you can't find anything make your own.

Depends on how you set up your withholdings.

A couple of browser related questions here.

I'm running Chrome on both a Mac Air and a Mac desktop, and on each the browser has developed its own strange quirk.

On the air, when I type anything in a search bar, instead of seeing whatever I'm typing, I get these weird jagged black bars -- not the standard security dots or anything, but an obvious visual glitch.

On the desktop, my smooth scroll has stopped working on my touch pad. If I slide two fingers it won't budge, but if I slide and immediately release, it'll scroll. This doesn't happen in Safari or any other application that allows scrolling.

Both of these things started happening in the past week or so, and I haven't found anything that really helps yet. Any ideas?

Edit: We're talking about Canary for both issues, actually. Regular old Chrome seems to work fine.

Not sure if you're still having this problem, but try sunflower seeds for bait. If you're using one of those live traps, make sure the trap is secure, so he can't just flip the trap over out of the way to get the bait out. You also might make sure you've got it on a hard surface and away from walls etc., so he won't destroy the surroundings trying to escape.

Take some extra measures to patch up that attic while you're at it, but I bet you've already done that.

Anyone know what Evilore does for a living? I'm too much of a wuss to PM him.

Nice! Thanks so much for the general tips. I will trying adding sunflower seeds into the mix... I think that he knows that I'm onto him, so he's a little random about when he comes around, but I'll get his ass yet. Thanks again!
