Android Gaming Thread New OP

I've been iOS gaming for about a year and have been pleasently surprised at how good it is.
I've been Andriod gaming for a month now, and ugh. The disparity between the platforms is far greater than I expected. Dungeon Raid definitely helps though.

Yeah, I made the move from iOS to Android a few months ago and the gaming scene really is woefully bad compared to iOS.

It's not even just that most games still don't make it over to Android, but also a lot of the ones that do get ported are lacking features and content. Take most EA games for example, the Android versions are all missing the online multiplayer found in the iOS versions. That happenes a lot, the multiplayer gets stripped from the Android release (probably because of no GameCenter)... Chuchu Rocket is another one. The Android version of Hard Lines doesn't even have leaderboards.

That's an interesting position, because increasingly there is parity. A year ago maybe you could say there's nothing good on Market. But nowadays there is literally more quality gaming than anyone could play. Can't see being frustrated other than just having to play every single hot game day 1. I'm having the same backlog problem that I used to have on iOS now where I just don't buy stuff unless I know it's really good. The only thing it needs for me is more asynchronous board games, but even iOS only has a handful of good ones.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't necessarily agree. I think there is a sort of parity, but it's largely a product of Android game developers trying to emulate what's hot on iOS before that game is available on Android. Look at Dragon, Fly! on Android (IIRC, that's the title) as a response to the booming popularity of Tiny Wings on iOS, for example.

I'm not really frustrated, especially since I don't game much on my phone, but it's a bit of a bummer to see my roommate recommending me all these fantastic sounding games and to know if it's not there on the Market, it might not ever be. Games released in the future won't have this problem, like you said, when the parity between the two platforms improves even further.

Still not available apparently. I've recommended WMW earlier in this thread and it's such a great puzzle game.

The new levels are available, but they are not downloading after paying for it. Reading the reviews a lot of people have the same problem :(

Not really, I have an iPhone 4 and I bought the Gnex and I keep the 4 just for the games. Theres just MUCH more wuality on the iphone when it comes to gaming.

Kind of a weird question, but anybody else kinda disappointed that fruit ninja hasn't been updated with the stuff the ios version has? Would be nice if we had the same version :(

I am still kinda disappointed so many of those iOS games never even come to Android. Seems like just leaving money on the table to me.

Bringing games over is one thing, but updating games that are already in the market just seems like something that they should be doing. I mean I paid for it but whatever. Just wishful thinking I guess. One of the cons of android gaming.

well, different standards of quality i guess. i'll be honest i crack up at some of the flavor of the week stuff that is considered amazing in the ios thread.

that said i do keep my itouch for carcassonne and ascension. async board gaming just doesn't exist on android. but in terms of TINY WINGS vs. WHALE TRAIL or whatever i could honestly give a fuck (but i don't). don't need to play some console-like game that is atrocious but that i'm supposed to praise because WOW ITS ON MY IPAD or the 10,000th version of the cute mobile gaming flavor of the week. i get my fill of that stuff just fine

Sorry if these questions have already been answered before:
- Is the Transformer Prime keyboard/touchpad supported in many Android games ?
- Can we use a bluetooth controller (Dualshock 3 or Wiimote for example) to control games, outside of emulated games ?

What are some games for Android that are free and that my mom might like? She got a new Android phone.

I assume Angry Birds is on this list.

Which is a bummer, because async board gaming is the single gaming-related thing that mobile/tablets are best at.

Soon Dominion is apparently going to be out for iOS and Android, though, drool.

haha yep.

didn't know that dominion was coming to android too. that could be really cool. can never have too much dominion

Ace Attorney 123HD is coming to Android

iOS and Android users can also look forward to more Ace Attorney. Capcom announced Ace Attorney 123HD for the mobile platforms. This set combines parts 1 through 3 of the Ace Attorney series, remastered with higher resolution artwork.

The game will be released shortly on iOS, with an Android version following. The first two chapters will be free, with additional chapter packs running 600 yen. Or, you can buy the full game for ¥1,200.

Wouldn't hold out a lot of hope of this being localized though as they never bothered doing so for the iphone versions of AA1 or Ghost Trick.

"remastered with higher resolution artwork"

DO WANT!

Also, "Those who already have Ace Attorney on iOS will be able to upgrade their current scenarios to the HD version"

Ace Attorney sounds good. When did you guys believe we will get them? Also, are there any other Capcom games for the platform?

I just noticed that GTA3 had an update several days ago and there's more graphics setting options now.

For BT controllers, the support is limited since not many games support keyboard inputs. However, the Sixaxis Controller app allows mapping of touchscreen inputs. I haven't used it myself but it sounds robust. You might want to check about rooting if there is a requirement. Apparently, Gamestop also sells a BT controller for Android, but I have no idea about that one.

Pew Pew 2 just updated and added another campaign plus more ships. Easily the best shooter out there and adds so much more to the Geometry Wars style gameplay.

I've lambasted those on mobile phones calling themselves "gamers" for years... and I still don't take it seriously, but have found myself playing games like "Quell" and "Plants vs. Zombies" when my home theater is five feet from me and completely powered down...

...that said, I have a Droid Pro, and don't necessarily have the power everyone else has for games; can you guys recommend some Android games that'll be best for my phone? Games like Osmos don't run all that well.

Whoa. Humble Indie Bundle comes to Android!

http://www.humblebundle.com/

Edge
Osmos
World of Goo
Anomaly

All for $4.28 currently. And you get the PC and Mac versions as well for no extra cost.

Nice!

I'm guessing they're APKs or can you redeem codes in the Android market? I experience the Steam effect, the one were you don't buy games unless in the Steam store (or Android market, in this case).

Hi guys. I got a Samsung Galaxy Note, can't wait to try out some games on this gigantic super massive screen. The phone is HUGE. I've got to wait until my micro sim adaptor arrives though, as I'm switching up from an iPhone. Looking forward to playing Game Dev Story on it.

I'm working on the Top 25 Android games for IGN, but I mostly (not exclusively) play on iOS. Any Android-exclusives I need to make sure I poke around? Already on my radar (not guaranteed to make the final cut):

Cordy
Spectral Souls
Wind-Up Knight
Pollushot
Apparatus

Humble Bundle! Kinda makes me weary about buying games on the market now, as I just bought Osmos and Anomaly in the last week. Still, DRM free! Soundtracks! Desktop copies! Great news for android.

Justin, some of my favorites:
Apparatus
PewPew 1/2
Robo Defense

edit1: Oh, shoot, exclusive only. Uhhhh. Hold on.
edit2: DAMMIT. I don't know how you can do this with only exclusives. My list shrank to almost nothing.

3/4 of those aren't Android exclusive.

4/6 of these aren't Android-exclusive, either.

Regardless, thanks for the three exclusive suggestions.
Original post by you uses the word exclusive, but not in a way that implies you want Android exclusives. It is entirely possible for the top 25 games on a platform to include non-exclusives.

Edit: Hm. Either stealth edit, or I'm blind. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRY! Carry on! :D

Edit2: Clearly quoted in first reply. I'm blind: CONFIRMED.

Just so we're clear, the article is top 25 Android games. They can be on iPhone too, so stuff like Plants Vs. Zombies, Osmos, etc. is pretty sure to make the cut.

I just wanted suggestions for Android exclusives because they are a bit of a blind spot for me sometimes :)

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
