Ace Attorney 5 (Platform Unknown), Ace Attorney 123HD (iOS) announced

I've always seen the closeup character sprites as animation cels. The HD art doesn't look like that at all. I'm not sure if it's because the lines are too thick or whatever... it just doesn't look good.

And yet no Edgeworth 2 DS US release.

Fuck Capcom. :|

I would love for it to be on 3DS, just because I'm OCD and want the ability to play them all on one console.

But, I suspect the lack of a platform announcement means it's probably a multiplatform release.

Yes they did... in 2005 and 2006. These iOS versions are actually ports of the PC versions.

I'm pretty sure the PC version (released in 2008) looked like this:

There were screens like this floating around, though... not sure what version they were from, or if they were only used for trailers/advertising:

The sprites in the HD iOS ports, as well as the one in the picture above, seem to be based on the original illustrations the GBA sprites were made from. The Gyakuten Saiban artbook is full to the brim of those. If you have the book, check it out. If you don't, do a Google search for "The Art of Gyakuten Saiban".

They have thick outlines and strong colors because they needed to be downscaled to the GBA screen resolution, and have their color depth lowered quite significantly. It's not surprising they look off in full color and resolution.

The GS Movie app that someone linked to on the Japanese store actually has a free preview of the HD games, it's the first chapter of 1....

You can rotate the screen luckily, that view suits the screen better and looks pretty stunning. I'm concerned since the sluggishness of the interface in the original iOS game is still there, like they just put a retina coat on the exact same app. Hope it changes and hope these actually come over here.

Glad to see Capcom giving the Ace Attorney series some love. Now if only Capcom USA would confirm they're localizing I'll be a happy camper.

Hope they localize it. And please, please let Polly star in his own game. Please. I love Phoenix but goddamn did he hog the spotlight in AJ.

Also, really hope they address Kristoph and his
black locks.
He's one of my favourite AA villains so...I'd appreciate it, thanks. :(

I also must be one of the only people who just doesn't care about AAI2 getting translated. Hated the first game. It's too bad for the rest of you though :(

@Lennes- Good point about Phoenix in AJ; I hated how they treated Phoenix in AP, and would've preffered if the most he had were cameos and nothing to do with the game's plot or anything.

While AJ is my least fav. of the series, it had some great animation and it's pursuit theme is one of my 3 fav. in the series-

...and Klavier Gavin, though too much of a kind Proescutor, is awesome-

iPhone + Vita + 3DS would probably work out well enough for AA5.

It's still hard to comprehend they technically have not made an amazing traditional AA game since GBA. Edgeworth game was awesome though.

Yes, please, I would like a new Ace Attorney; the first games possibly reaching a wider audience is also good news.

Wow, I slept through all the excitement. >_<

Some thoughts:

- Releasing 1-3 on iOS is smart, but some of those sprites need work (Godot...)
- The logo is missing the character silhouette at this time to keep the main character a secret (to be honest, I'm hoping for another game with Apollo. I rather liked him and Trucy)
- Considering the Vita has touch abilities, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if 5 marks the first Ace Attorney game to launch multi-platform (3DS/PSV/iOS)

Oh man....Gyakuten Saiban 5. I'm getting all tingly inside. I thought AAI dragged on way too long, and wasn't all that excited for AAI2, so I'm glad they're returning to the regular AA formula.

Can't wait! Hopefully it'll actually get translated.

Who's the main artist/character designer for the first 3 AA games? Is he/she the same one who did the designs for AJ?

The Wii ones are not HD in any way... same Sprites as in the DS versions. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to AA5! Come on Capcom, give us a release in the west!

Some posters here are border-line embarrassing themselves with their anti-iOS comments. I mean really, how is it going to lead to any compromises for the game? Talking shit about touch controls I can understand when it comes to GTA3 or Soul Calibur (even though I'm starting to get pretty handy with them, they still pretty much suck), but cracking the shits when a game like this, that suits the platform perfectly, hits iOS? There's just no logic behind it.

.......They're already on Wiiware.

Not really. The Wii Ware version is just stretching the old assets...

However, I think I take the stretched pixelated look over this HD look, lol. I think AAA HD will look fine on the small screen of my iPhone, but I really don't want to see the "HD glory" on my TV.

Yeah, it really doesn't make any sense. I'd be lying if I said I didn't use the touch controls in the DS versions almost exclusively.

From what I've seen, THIS. Phoenix Wright on Wii was very enjoyable, I doubt I'd enjoy it as much if I played it with the assets I'm seeing now :/

I have little doubt that AA5 will come here. The HD collection, on the other hand... Not so much.

Well, I would say "that's a sure thing" since the games are already translated and iOS release should be cheaper to do internationally, but then I remember Ghost Trick.

I hope we'll see something of AA5 in the "near" future. It's something I'm waiting since I've finished Apollo. And now, hype!

This is fantastic news. As much as I want to see Phoenix again though, I do think it was perfect as a trilogy and I sort of hope Phoenix isn't the protagonist for a new game.

I could see Ace Attorney 5 being on 3DS and Vita, along with an iOS release down the road.

What would be really interesting is a Wii U release. I think the tablet combined with a TV could create a rather immersive experience. But portability trounces upon all features for a game like this, so my main hope is iOS or 3DS.

Yeah, it really doesn't make any sense. I'd be lying if I said I didn't use the touch controls in the DS versions almost exclusively.

I dunno about them anti-whatever peoples but I only used the dpad+buttons for all the games except for the few forced touched screen uses in AA1 & 4. Using the stylus only woulda made the games extremely slow. And holding a DS with one hand for long periods of time hurts!

Regarding AA5 I think 3DS with a later iOS port would be a rather safe bet. Capcom is one of the leading 3DS supporters and I can't imagine that it would switch the plattform after Layton vs AA. That wouldn't make a lot of sense, I think.

A Vita version would certainly be possible too, but looking at Capcom's current Vita efforts I wouldn't count on it.
