Halo 4 Announced (MS Conf, 2012, Start Of New Trilogy)

Also kind of agree that Master Chief's story isn't the selling point of Halo to the masses.

I'd say it's a fairly large selling point, but not THE selling point. Like Arnie said, Master Chief is synonymous with Halo and with Xbox as a brand the way Mario is with Nintendo on ALL their gaming products.

As a marketing student, I enjoy dissecting entertainment releases of all kinds beyond face value and I have to say, two of the best things 343i has done so far is a) call it Halo 4 and b) bringing back Master Chief and Cortana (Mario and Peach). Both symbolizing Halo 4 as the 'next BIG Halo' and allow for easier communication for what a low-effort consumer can expect from Halo 4.

But despite all this, I still agree with Luke Smith's quote that states, "campaign sets the table, but multiplayer's your meal." That quote holds true today now more than ever when it used to be about playing GTA by yourself for hours. Now you want to play GTA with others online for hours.

I kinda hope they split the campaigns into solo and co-op, a six player co-op Halo mini campaign which focuses on missions designed around fun encounters tailored for a large number of players would be amazing.

They just did last November. You underestimate the market.

You're quite correct, and I'm guilty of not phrasing my point correctly.

The average gamer won't feel the need to buy Halo just weeks after they've bought the new COD. COD's built in a way that pulls audiences deep inside it for weeks. And by all accounts, it's had success with this method.

Battlefield releasing in October before COD's out is completely different to Halo releasing around or after early November when COD religiously releases.

Battlefield was an appetiser whilst people were hungry, Halo would be a pudding when everyone's full.

While I find this quite agreeable, I don't feel as though we're completely of the same mind. Agree to disagree.

lol I am comically fat.

I laughed a decent amount at this, and I'm not even sure why.

I think it was the comically fat.

So anyway, how's Halo 4 coming along? Like really how's it coming along. Because you already have my dollars. Just please don't release a Halo 4 slim console, I already own the Halo 3 fat and the Halo Reach Slim. I can't afford ANOTHER new console.

I have a baby to worry about now.

Please think of my baby.

Of course they're going to release a Halo 4 Xbox. They do it for every major title that launches.

Yeah, I really don't know how many times this has to be confirmed for it to sink into minds.

Do people forget that Halo 2 came out a year before the 360 launched? Halo 2 was also the #1 played game over Xbox LIVE on the 360 until a year later when Gears of War released.

Microsoft doesn't need a Halo launch title because the Xbox brand has moved up so much in mainstream minds since the original Xbox. Not to mention the fact that there WILL be a Call of Duty launch title for the next Xbox which will single handedly propel the console on day one.

I think the 360 proved to MS that they don't need a huge gamechanger launch title to successfully launch a console.

I would love a new Sparkast where they hint at things that we will have no clue about but still makes us go all crazy and stuff.

Frankie can say "Ya i really love the new update to the water graphics. Makes the world look full of life"

Then we post rabit discussions on the possibilities of the composition of the water on this world.

By selling your old one?

Can't do that. Collector.

I already have money put away for the Star Wars console, and I'll be selling my black S for the new Xbox.

If they make a Halo 4 Slim I'm fucked.

It was hard enough resisting the Gears and MW3 consoles. I bought the Silver Slim PS3 too. But I sold my 80GB to get that one at least.

I do agree Halo has lost some of it's luster compared to COD, but I dont know if an exclusive can be the biggest game anymore. Only a multiplatform.

Also, shooters with sci-fi settings are in a major popularity downturn compared to ones with military settings. Anytime I see a FPS with a sci-fi setting these days it's usually the kiss of box office death (Resistance, Killzone, Crysis 2)

Overall you could argue that Halo has held up pretty well with all the factors working against it. But it's not the alpha dog any more.

I know that feel bro (without the child)

Will buy Halo 4 slim day 1.

Wasn't their supposed to be 'very few sleeps' until vehicle information or some shit?

"Mock up" boxart for toys.

Just realized the toy boxes confirm Marines and Elites. I mean, that's not a surprise at all, but confirmation is nice I guess.

The Hornet was confirmed on another box, too.

I read somewhere (in someone's daydreaming) about something along the lines of master chief's armour slowly deteriorating along the course of the game as it hadn't been maintained, or let alone been taken off in a fair while. It'd be pretty cool if they involved the deterioration of chief's armour in the story of the game. (or something like that)

(woot! first post!)

I wasn't expecting much at all, but these 'reveals' don't even constitute the definition of 'not much'. It's flat out trolling and the more you guys act as apologists, the more you're encouraging them.

God damnit.

EDIT - Well at least the Covenant are about I guess. I hope they're allies though, I really do.
EDIT 2 - Lack of Jackals and Hunters is concerning though, those four enemy types provide the most beautiful combination.
EDIT 3 - Does anyone think the Hunters have been grossly underused in the Halo universe?

Frankie said Halo 4 vehicle news and that's what we got. Not reason to get upset about it and we are not acting like apologist, we simply did not set our hopes too high.

Also, what do we think will happen if say, Halo 4 scores 81 (exactly) on Metacritic?

Is that it for you guys? Because I have to ask myself whether it'll really be worth investing in the next Xbox if Halo is considered 'dead'.

Uh, I don't play games based on any scores.

I would love a game where the suit could take damage. Like if you got shot in the head, even if you managed to recover, you HUD would be all Fuzzy. Getting shot in the leg slowed you down, etc etc if they did this for Halo 4 I would rage, but the idea of deteriorating suits is cool enough. Do you mean just visually though? Because I could be down for that!

And welcome!

Oh come on man, some form of new information was implied. This is just flat out trolling and you know it.

Again setting your hopes too high. I mean I would have liked new vehicle info but w/e we where not promised NEW info we where just promised some info. Frankie nor 343i tried to hype it up to be big or anything either, then again someone could take "info on vehicles in a few sleep" as "There will totally be new vehicle info......totally".

EDIT: Ok Frankie did say "big"

What are you talking about? Frankie quoted a post that was quoting a post regarding HALO 4 TOYS saying "Very few sleeps 'til there is a big announcement in this realm." And then we got info about toys.

I dont think you know what trolling is.

Post for proof

(The idea of my post was to indicate what you'd do if the quality of Halo dropped significantly)

Okay, wasn't quite sure. I don't know anything about Metacritic (can anybody write a review for it or what) but If the quality did drop (in my own opinion) then its possible.

it could be dependant on difficulty, if you're on easy, then yes. It would be only cosmetic, but if you were on legendary, then it would be both cosmetic, and alter your abilities eg. shields, hud, jump height etc.)

I guess I thought it would just seem futile to only show things that are very traditional Halo components, fair enough though.

Either way I think the fact that the idea of seeing a single piece of new information, being equatable to 'setting hopes too high' is a pretty dire reflection of how much information we've been getting.

Edit - What the fuck, he said 'big' announcement. 'BIG'.

BIG.

I knew I was excited for a reason. Damnit, he's turning us against each other.

You can have skulls for that.

Other than that, yeah, no thanks.

Edit: That's like paying "Lone Wolf" for an entire game. Seriously, who would want to play that? Who would find that fun?

Not really, I mean we specifically got told to expect toy info, it was very unlikely we would get a new reveal of any kind from a toy before we got it from 343.

And we did get new info, we got confirmation that the covenant in some form would return in H4.

When you look at it thats big info, it means chief will be in contact with earth at some point.

The toy confirmed marines. That means it's likely that the Chief gets back in contact with the UNSC. Remember the UNSC Infinity in the Halo 4 concept art? Possible link there.

Never mind the possibility of Spartan IV's stationed on the Infinity making a cameo.

I really don't think seeing a new vehicle in toy form is an unrealistic expectation. I'm sorry man, but we're going to have to disagree there. I do not classify a 'big announcement' as 'Ghosts confirmed for Halo 4'.
