anybody else planning on buying a grip for the Vita? I was thinking of buying this but I'm on the fence.

Not necessary. When I played the demo unit at Gamestop, I was amazed at how large and comfortable it was. I'm 6'6 with rather big hands and it fit perfectly into them, trust me you won't need it.

It doesn't need a grip.

I disagree.

The finger grips on the back of the pad aren't doing it for me. My index fingers sprawl across the back of the back touchscreen. I could change the way I hold the handheld but it's been the way I've been playing my PSP for more than 5 years now. It's going to be an incredibly nasty habit to break.

I'd definitely buy one of those if it somehow extended battery life too. Won't pay $15 or whatever they're charging though just for that as it is now.

edit:

I will be grabing the one made by Nyko since it doubles as a battery.

And this is something I'm interested in :)

Just checked the EU playstation site, they list the release date for gravity rush as 23rd Feb, but as far as im aware it is download only, thats why it isnt listed on any retailers sites.

Definitely not out on 23rd of February. Would be confirmed by now if it was.

Since the US release is physical, it might take a bit longer than 23rd I guess. But that is awesome news for Europe; it's practically a launch title!

But it's confirmed to not be a launch title
I must have missed the memo, sorry. Where?
Cos motorstorm RC is a download only. That hasnt been officially listed yet either has it? That has a 22nd Feb date.
I just figured maybe there is a confusion about the dates because retailers arent listing them, as they are downloads?

Forgot I had like 15,000 Amex rewards points. Applied them to the 3G Bundle, plus a $100 Amazon gift card, I only wind up paying ~100. The real question is, do I really want another Uncharted game? Anyone else feel overwhelmed with all their consoles and games? I've barely touched my 3DS, I have probably 10 unopened games for various systems, yet I'm excited about picking up the Vita.

I've got 10,000 Amex points and $160 in Amazon gift card credit to soften the blow. I wasn't getting a Vita at launch since money was tight but with this changes everything.

I'll be getting:
Vita Wifi
Either 16 or 32 gb card
Virtua Tennis 4
Hori Screen Protector
A case(not sure which yet)

And maybe some psp rpg's if theres a sale. I want to buy TiTs, all the Y's, Persona 2, and some others I forgot.

Don't know when I'll put my pre-order on Amazon in.

Yeah, pretty sure the US will get it last.

I pretty much agree with you on this. My only question is, why couldn't the US get it at the same time as a digital download? I mean, I know that there will be a physical copy at retail, but, it's not like the content has to be localized between the US and EU.

Doesn't mention february, Says TBC for me
Ok, thats weird, I just rechecked, and now it says TBC for me too, but at the time I posted, I swear it said 23rd Feb!!
Edit: I have had enough, I am going to bed now, its quarter to 3 in the morning here, wifes already annoyed with me., and apparently my mind is playing tricks on me, time to retire methinks. Damn, I was excited for a moment too!

So no one knows where to buy the Hori Screen Protector except Amazon and Play Asia? I tried ordering off Amazong but it says 2-21/3-14. No way am I going for that. Play Asia has super expensive shipping too.

I was just going to use the case that comes with the early bundle, but after hearing people complain of potential scratches because of plastic I'm now strongly considering getting a screen protector.

Sound Shapes is PSN only? Will download the demo in a sec and post impressions later.

Yeah unfortunately. It's an amazing game and definitely worth a purchase. I played it at the Vita Hill Social Club and it does start off easy yet gets harder as the level progresses. Just don't give up on it at first.

I think the screens is too small for Technika. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong

There's a chance, yeah...But it may feel like EBA which was proved to be the perfect sized screen. I imagine it would have to be adjusted accordingly.

To be fair, I haven't touched a Vita yet, so my opinion is sort of meh, haha.

Asked this in the other thread, but how did Touch My Katamari turn out? I felt like the psp version was a big letdown, and I held off buying Katamari Forever thinking this might be just as good as a console version.

What kind of deals can we expect in Australia for the wifi model come launch day?
I'm hoping to be able to grab one at ~$280 like I did for the 3DS but it seems unlikely :/ Only checked GAME and EB which admittedly are always going to be in the upper price range.

What case is everyone getting?

I am still deciding between:

PDP PSVita Custom Crystal Case
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006X0KBY6/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Hori Hard Pouch for PlayStation Vita (Blue)
http://www.play-asia.com/Hard_Pouch_for_PlayStation_Vita_Blue/paOS-13-71-1a7-49-en-70-4h5p.html

I am leaning towards the PDP case since it reminds me of the Logitech PlayGear Pocket Case for the psp that was built like a friggin tank.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006WJ6YGW/ref=s9_simh_gw_p63_d0_g63_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1F7K7G5HG16P4TXS3XPG&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846
That resembles the PlayGear Pocket more to me.

Nothing yet. But check JB and Dick Smith's website as well though :)

Oddly enough, some games are priced below RRP at JB and DS. I preordered Uncharted from JB online for $59 and might possibly grab DS's Ultimate MVC for 59.95.

I think it's a fairly reasonable expectation that the system is BC as the system it's competing against is BC. Sure, it is on PSN, but I don't feel like I should have to rebuy my games to play them on PSN. I mean, whatever, I'll just rip them and play them on my hacked Go, but lots of other consumers are going to feel burned. I certainly wasn't about to go digital only with prices being the same prices as UMD (and generally higher after the game's been out for two weeks) and having to rely on Sony to allow me to play my games when I want to in 2, 5, 10, 20 years.

They clearly don't have to do anything, but to say people "feel entitled to everything" over something like this is a bit over dramatic. It's not like we're saying "we should get every single PSP title for free!!!1" It's saying "hey I bought my games on UMD, I'd like to be able to play these on the new device."

I dont really have an opinion other then most people feel entitled to stuff that they shouldnt. In this case, if sony were to add on a umd drive to the device it would make it bigger then it is. Of course they could give you the games digitally, but I am sure there is a problem on the publisher side of this debate.

The vita does not use the same media as the PSP did, so just use your psp, because it will not magically stop working when the vita drops. If we knew the whole story as to why we can not trade in our UMD's then I, and you, would then have sufficient evidence to be able to judge who is in the wrong, instead of finding a scapegoat and taking it out on them.

I'm hearing that the Vita isn't very good at scaling and games that aren't in the native resolution look pretty rough. How bad is this, really? It's not going to affect my purchase, as I've already preordered a First Edition bundle, but I was kind of shocked to hear that A) some games are in the native resolution, and B) that it doesn't scale all that well.

Depends on the game, really. Of course, native resolution games look more "clean", but it's not that bad in most cases. One thing that Vita is really bad at is compressing the screenshots, the quality of most of them is just terrible.

Headed to Gamestop earlier tonight to preorder a game and the store had a Vita demo unit set up

Didn't have much time to spend with the handheld since it was close to 9pm, but I did have a chance to try out a demo of my most wanted game for the Vita: Gravity Rush

Despite being tethered, the Vita felt very comfortable in my hands. It did take a few tries to adjust my fingers so they wouldn't be touching the rear touchscreen all the time. Can't comment on the sound since even though the volume on the handheld was at max level, I still couldn't hear anything. The control sticks were, in my mind at least, a wee bit smaller than I had anticipated. They could have been a little bit sturdier as well. The screen looked great even though there were some fingerprints and the front touch screen was very responsive (didn't do anything w/rear touchscreen so can't comment on its functionality)

As for the Gravity Rush demo, well it's no wonder why I want that game the most. It looked great. Controls were very good. It will take some getting used to working the camera angles when using the right stick based on its size and the size of my thumb. When I was floating and adjusting the camera angles to have my character launch to specific spots, I preferred using the gyro controls. Another thing I liked about the gyro controls was being able to move the camera around the comic book-like panels. That was pretty cool. As for the touch screen controls, they were minimal (only used to swipe panels, move dialogue along, and evade) but they were very good and responsive

All in all, had a great time finally trying out the system. Damn shame I'm gonna wait until Gravity Rush gets released in the U.S. to buy the Vita

I play some games at gamestop gravity rush and uncharted was below resolution but they do look great trust me you have to have it in your hands to see

Well, characters in GR are a bit jaggy, but it has nothing to do with the resolution. On the other hand, Uncharted looks really muddy imo.
