I hope my Wacom comes soon enough, so I can continue my drawings.

We don't gnaw on our kitty. Leave Mi--no. Leave Mini Mr. Togglesworth alone.
Mini Mr. toggglesworth is not for eating

hey thanks for deleting me off steam jerk. looks like I'll have to only play with the two bs of my life now, bocky and boken.

It's probably Bane but if they really committed to releasing more heroes at a time it could even be Bane + PA + TA.

Noob question:

Can someone explain how the IH games work?

I've lurked in the GAF channel but I don't understand how the games work. I occasionally see someone announce an IH with the usual password (don't want to post it). Does that mean anyone can join, or do they send out invites or something?

And are noobs welcome? I can only play Venomancer semi-well as of now. I am definitely a noob. I do my best not to feed, and I try to team-play to the best of my abilities. For instance, my last game I went something like 7/9/21. I'll even buy the courier :).

Do I need to be in Mumble to get an invite? Where's the Mumble info?

Is that enough questions? :)

Noob question:
Assuming you're in the Neogaf channel:

When someone announces an IH, click the Play tab, then click Practice. On the right side where the games are listed, near the bottom, is a box. Type "neogaf", which is the usual password, and click "Filter". This will show only games with the password.

Everyone is welcome. However, be warned. There are some players who are more accepting of newbies than others, and during salt games (grudge matches, call outs, etc), the risk of getting chewed out is severely magnified. As you play and spec, you'll learn to identify the loose cannons in DOTAGAF so you'll know who to avoid. Make sure you mention that you're new, it lessens the flaming somewhat. Be receptive to criticism (even if it is delivered in a caustic manner), and you'll have a much easier time getting along with everyone. Or you can get upset at every little thing and become a joke like rac or ceramicsteve.

You can ask anyone for the mumble information, most of them who actually know it will give it to you.

Primal Roar goes through BKB, using it prior to the roar is a waste, I'll be stunned for the duration.

I listed the rudimentary responsibilities of all those roles, of course if you go into a case by case basis it's far more complex, but for the sake of argument it's not really feasible, but if any of those things aren't done, it's justifiable to put the loss on that person. That game you went lich and built Daedalus and Assault Cuiress, if we didn't have someone else warding and lost I would have blamed you for going un-orthodox builds and not warding, equally you would have said it's my fault for making Rapier first as it's not a smart item choice.

Without a doubt we would've lost.

My dark seer is best dark seer! Though I had some shitty walls in th first few team fights

We get it that you don't like it when people pause the game, but do you realize that 9 other people that were also playing? like you pissed off 9 other people in a gaf inhouse?

You will remembered for being a dick who could not have the patience to wait for a few minutes to continue what was a good game. Like if you had a emergency then fine but to leave on the principle alone for the anti pause defense group? are you like Rorschach some one that does not compromise.

I apologize, who ever paused right after can go eat a dick. I think it would of been better for me to pause the game and walked awy for twenty minutes.

I do remember a joke game where we picked heroes with clones, like morph and spectre, just because they had a darkseer
and then also had a carry with manta

was quite a mess really

A long time ago Dark Seer's ulti created illusions of both team's heroes.

I bought a refresher orb on top of that.

Some of the Achievements Valve is going to put in the game will likely take forever to get.

I'm pretty close to the 100 pudge win achievement already!

But can't wait till they put them in, most of the ones already listed are pretty easy, and the ones that aren't easy are just time consuming I suppose.

Unless I'm missing a joke or something, he still does that when he has the Ag Scepter

Wall of Replica used to do it normally, but that was taken out in 6.63 (September 2009). The copying of allies was added back in as an Aghanim's Scepter upgrade with patch 6.72 (April 2011)

Ah ok, it is pretty powerful when you have the scepter so I understand the reasoning behind that.

Once you learn most of Invoker's spells, he is such an awesome character.

He just over took Dragon Knight as my favorite character.

Seriously he does it all. Support, ganker, and even a semi carry.

It's also satisfying when you notice that the carries on the enemy team are carrying gems because you slip through their fingers with the invisibility spell :3

Even more fun when you beat them all down and take the gems :D

I thought I was improving in this game for a while but can't seem to sort myself in IHs at all. Can't seem to last hit or keep up with team throughout.

Feel like I need to random MM more as practice and stop hopping into IHs whenever possible.

Argh, second match last night, after really trying to be good at this game and reading about what to get at start and how to play offensively and defensively depending on the hero, I get matched up with a bunch of really noob players. I saw one guy spend his starting gold on the ring of basilius and the other players basically each ran right into groups of heroes feeding them getting one in particular to lvl 20 fairly quickly to rofl stomp us within 30 minutes. I couldn't believe it as it was only MY second time playing. I understand how most dota players feel now, it sucks! Everyone on my team was also accusing me of ruining the fun -_-

Welcome to GAF inhouses where the teams are made up and the points don't matter.

No, keep inhousing, despite the salt it's the best place to find actual critique for your plays.

I'm surprised you noticed that the ring of basilius is a bad starting item and you are new :o

Dunno if I would consider it a noob build, but when I am not buying courier as Invoker, I buy One Blades of attack, one tango, and one branch. So far build has served me pretty well.

I read a bunch of guides and have been playing with bots trying out each hero before I jump into an online game so I've been much more aware of what type of starting items you need. Everyone's starting items are pretty basic depending on the type of hero. When I asked that guy why he got the ring he goes, "well I just wanted to be safe because this is my first time trying a support hero". I knew we were doomed right then and there.

Well whenever you want to play with a scrub that's not totally worthless, I'd be willing to play with you. That way you're not ready to gouge out someone's eyes.

Later on in the day though, when I am done with my interview and update comes :D

Argh, second match last night, after really trying to be good at this game...

Try to find some people in Neogaf that are willing to play with noobs or noobs themselves (like me) and go matchmaking with them. I had some good games over last few days with CeramicSteve, ProGrizzly, philthy, max, Seta souji, etc.

Also, what I usually do is go to playdota.com, select the hero I'm playing, then click on the highest rated guide, and lvl up and buy items according to that guide.

Can't always tell with dat salt, loooool.

Don't intend on stopping, but I've developed this habit where I'd stop playing random games or even bot practices, and spend more time observing games but not putting anything into practice. It's never a good idea, especially when you're not good yet, to stop practicing.

I also tend to lean towards squishy heroes which often leads me to playing overly conservative. Having a real understanding of how aggressive vs. defensive I should be with any given confrontation is something I'm still having difficulty with.
