PS Vita US Launch Details (Launch Games, Accessory Pricing)

The First Edition bundle? That's kinda unknown still...

Nah, the standard launch bundle. Gamestop says:

"Includes: PlayStation Vita 3G/Wi-Fi System + 8GB Memory Card + AT&T DataConnect Session Pass + Free PSN Game* "

I wasn't sure if anyone knew what it was yet.

It's a DLC voucher that you get once you activate the 3G service IIRC.

Sorry if this has been asked, but what game comes with the Wifi/3G bundle? Is it a physical copy or a DL voucher?

The First Edition bundle comes with Little Deviants; it's a physical version, not download code.

Both, the First Edition and Launch 3G bundle come with a PSN download -- if you sign up for one month of 3G service.

Physical, not digital.

So that free game isn't free? You actually have to spend $15 or whatever to activate the 3G service for a month in order to gain access to a PSN download (is there info as to what games are offered? That's the deal breaker I guess)?

They must be about ready to ship these things to retailers.

I expect back room pics.

Not sure about consoles, but games typically arrive at their retail destination the week before release. I always remember Gamestop getting their new games the Friday before their street date (Tuesday).

When I worked at Blockbuster we got the PS2 in about two weeks before release. I think the 360 was a couple of days before only.

What case is everyone getting?

I am still deciding between:

PDP PSVita Custom Crystal Case
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006X0KBY6/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Hori Hard Pouch for PlayStation Vita (Blue)
http://www.play-asia.com/Hard_Pouch_for_PlayStation_Vita_Blue/paOS-13-71-1a7-49-en-70-4h5p.html

I am leaning towards the PDP case since it reminds me of the Logitech PlayGear Pocket Case for the psp that was built like a friggin tank.

I like the look of the Crystal case, and the fact that it holds 8 games. Only thing I'm iffy on is the game inserts. Maybe I can print out my own though.

I guess that's the question then - does the discount sufficiently overcome the loading hit? Just seems pretty backwards to spend up to a hundred dollars on a memory card when it's actually could be a disadvantage to having one (outside of for needed game save files).
From what i have seen, the loading time difference is less than 1 second. Here is one example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuZ_hJAgtms&feature=player_embedded

Here is another where the difference is about 3 seconds, but it seems to be one english version and one japanese version, so that might have something to do with the different loading times:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKQ3AnXZVT4&feature=player_embedded

But even with a 3 second differnce, the difference isnt anything huge.

So no official word as to whether or not game saves are tied to individual physical game carts?

I'm still sitting on the fence between all DD and all retail.

Man, news is going so slowly on the Vita front.
I think you sort of set yourself up for disappointment with that whole "we're going to see a huge media blitz kick off two weeks before the first edition bundles hit" deal.

Sony's doing the important part by getting well-stocked demo units out into the wild. Funneling more info to people who are already on board as early adopters probably isn't high on their priority list.

Maybe. Still, there should be some news or details being relayed to consumers at this point. The demo units are great but PSN pricing details would be a start.

Wow.

I got to play with one over lunch for a little bit. The screen is HUGE and the games are crisp as all get out.

I tried the Uncharted demo and didn't really like it, but I may have to give it more of a fighting chance later. I also dicked around with the Gravity Daze demo. I don't know what I played (because I only had a few minutes before I hard to get back to work), but it was SO crisp looking.

The Gamestop employees tried to talk me into pre-ordering the First Edition, but I have no desire for that. I can wait a week. I will more than likely be pre-ordering next week. :)

I'm seriously ready for the Vita to release already... damn. I wish I wasn't in Europe the month of release though.. not sure if I'm willing to pay USD 80 extra just for the exchange rate.

I know the audience is a bit self-selecting but seems like everyone who has done hands-on has been pretty stoked. Only real doubt at all about this system seems to be its long-term prospects, which is very legitimate certainly but in terms of launch I really can't wait.

The lack of Vita info is infuriating, but I got it from a reliable source that the marketing and PR teams recently went through a huge upheaval and a new team is getting in place now and has big plans...

Seems like something they should have done a year ago and not months before the system launches here, but this is Sony we're talking about.

Well SCEA has a Playstation showcase to retailers coming up soon and we already know what games are coming up till around May, so we just have to wait for announcements and if we don't see any then I'd start to worry about the system's prospects.

Apparently the read/write on the memory cards is slower than the retail game cards. I'm not sure how big the difference is though. PSN is supposed to offer a discount though.

That kind of makes you wonder a bit. If sony were in control of both the memory sticks purchased by a customer, and those used for retail games, why would you make them have different read/write speeds?

I completely understand now why the PSN titles load slower than the retail cards. I feel bad for people downloading games that have extremely long load times.

The hardware is awesome. I just don't see alot of compelling software on the horizon. Something about the games announced so far seems a bit underwhelming, too many tired franchises and not enough games that seem well suited as portable games or that take advantage of the unique opportunities that the hardware allows for.

I guess I worry that the system itself has no identity at this point. Hopefully we will see more of that develop over the course of 2012.

Isn't that a little bit late? The system is launching in WEEKS and almost nobody knows that it is coming. How could they fuck it up this badly? They invested so much in the device... I don't understand.

A post like this just reads like a well disguised troll to me.

Case in point:
Gravity Daze
Sound Shapes
Motorstorm RC
Super Stardust Delta
Dragon's Crown
Army Corps of Hell
Escape Plan
Super Putty Squad HD
Unit 13
Ragnarok Odyssey
Ruin

And I'm not forgetting the 'tired franchises' you are talking about, such as:
Wipeout
Lumines
Virtua Tennis
Ridge Racer
Hot Shots Golf
Mortal Kombat
Streetfighter X Tekken
Marvel Vs Capcom Ultimate
Katamary Damacy
Blazblue
Rayman Origins
Oddworld: Munch's Odyssey
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Persona 4: The Golden
Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus

...

To me it looks like the Vita has one of the best software launches in gaming history. How can anyone refute this list? If you're interested in the games personally, that's of course subjective and a whole other point to make. I personally think they are releasing a bit too much at the same time, and I won't be able to get more than 2 or 3 games in the next six months.

I assume review units are out right? I know some places reviewed the Japanese Vitas, but I have to assume some more US press reviews should be hitting soon.

I'm thinking they must be hitting news outlets next week. A lot of them imported their Vitas for the Japanese launch. I hope they put up the US PSN Vita games a few days before as well.

They're probably waiting for the launch, or, maybe for the store to be available. Technically speaking, I feel like we already know the reviews for the games that are about to come out since the Japanese units have already had these games reviewed.

I wanted one because I loved my PSP and my PSPGo. I was on the fence until I got some hands on time with it, but after holding it for 15 minutes even, I could tell the Vita was one VERY serious handheld.

i traded in my PSP today and a thought occurred to me while i was taking out the UMD and memory card. is there any technical reason that there wont be some sort of Vita memory card adaptor in the future, just like there was was for the memory stick pro standard for the PSP, where you could use the cheaper micro SD card for storage instead?

It's completely bewildering to me. I have a few friend inside sony (because my shitty podcast has been mostly playstation and pc related) and they all tell the same story of being completely hamstrung about getting info out because of the complete upheaval of the old PR and Marketing teams. Maybe this was part of the bigger restructuring that's happening - i don't know and they didn't say. But everyone seems happy with this new team, but they aren't exactly ready yet and the goddamn thing comes out in two weeks.

Only sony, man.

Can't do that when they are the same size:

Unless we get a micro micro SD card or something and it's cheaper then Vita memory cards.

I Don't know if you have seen the memory on the vita, but that thing is TINY. I think the micro SD is almost the same size if not bigger. Right now an adapter is out of the question IMO.

Also the reason they went proprietary is that they don't want people accessing the files on the card directly. You move files from and to the vita via a content manager. Making an adapter goes against their vision.

Edit: Beaten like a DOG. Damn you Krae_Man

I would hope for a few weeks before, i want to use the US store now :(

The Vita memory cards are damn near microscopic. I could be wrong, but I can't think of anything smaller that you could put into an adapter.

Edit: Beaten, badly.

I am eagerly waiting for the PSVita.

I did pre-order it twice, one from EBGames and the other from BestBuy (with the free Uncharted game) so I guess I'll use my EBGames deposit for something else.

I plan on going all-in digital download. I love buying stuff from Steam, the iTunes AppStore and from the PSN Store as well (to feed my PSPGo) so I don't regret buying DD especially when retail games come with the game and a simple piece of paper.

Costco.ca has the 32Gb memory card for 87$. I was planning to get it at launch so to buy it for less makes me happy.

After playing the gamestop demo for a second time I think I'm gonna hold off on Uncharted. It looks good but I'll wait for the price drop. I recently played 3 and U know I'm in for a relatively short adventure. I'll stick to HSG and Fifa which I know I'll get my moneys worth with. Down the line I'll get UC for $35.

I'm pretty sure Sony has said the Vita stuff will go up on the store during the Tuesday update the day before launch.

Explain this kind sir?

Golden Abyss is supposed to be the longest of them all. Clocked in around 10-12+ hours for a lot of people so I wouldn't worry about the length.

That has to be frustrating to the hardware development teams.. it would be a waste to see the Vita crash and burn before it could reach its potential. Public perception is a dangerous thing.

Yeah, I've been hearing that it's a full sized adventure. Does the game eventually move from the jungle environment though? That's all I'm seeing.

Ah well, any hope of any other brand of vita memory card other than an official Sony one. I believe other brands like kingston made versions of the memory pro duo

It's suppose to have world traveling similar to U2 and 3 but not as expansive, I would say yea, probably but not drastic changes like going from Jungle to Snow for example.

So does EB/Gamestop Canada have the Sony games in stock already?
Kind of bummed that Bestbuy online probably wont ship them till the 15th and won't arrive to the 18th at the earliest.

Oh what the hell. I'm part of Gamers Club and a Silver Reward Zone member and I had no idea. I would have done this. Dammit.

This offer was Canada only. They emailed it to every gamers Club Member as far as I know.

I still have my fingers crossed for Release day shipping. Then again of all the games I perordered from Best Buy with that E3 sale, only one arrived on release date.

Their website says shipping in 24hours for the Sony games but the EB I preordered at doesn't have them in yet. It's most likely an error on the website. That might be the date it is shipped to retailers but not the date they are supposed to be selling to customers. I wouldn't be surprised if games are being stored in the back already.

It seems the days of retailers selling games before system launches has passed.
