PS Vita US Launch Details (Launch Games, Accessory Pricing)

If Best Buy is taking gaming seriously, they're not showing it. Why aren't all launch Vita games listed in their data base?

I go to a store today and the "gaming expert" there says that the handheld launches with five games. He thinks so because said 5 games are the only ones you can find on their site.

I can tell you they don't. They have one of the worst preorder systems (I got to do a return exchange, seriously), and may be the only retailer I know that leaves games out in the open for just anybody to grab and steal.

So it doesn't surprise me they don't have every game listed for launch and the following window. I would venture to guess 80% of the company doesn't even know when the Vita releases.

I think I'll get Modnation Racers, if not at launch then soon after. I really enjoyed the handling on the PS3 (which is sadly missing from the version I actually own - the PSP one), and the campaign modes they do are a nice twist on the formula (I was addicted on getting gold medals on the PSP version for a while). I also really enjoy how you have to manage your boost meter in races, it makes the game feel less random than other arcade racers I've played.

The fact that it doesn't have online actually works out ok for me, since that's not something I'm really interested in and the game is $10 cheaper because of it.

It feels weird/wrong to not buy a Ridge Racer game at a launch of new hardware (where applicable)

Bought RRV at PS2 launch.
Bought RR at PSP launch.
Bought RR6 when it was released a couple weeks after 360 launch.
Bought RR7 at PS3 launch.
Even bought RR 3DS at launch.

But I won't be buying RR Vita until it drops in price.

wait..isn't Ridge Racer $29.99?

i actually kind of like the hsg cartridge art. it's nice and simple. reminds me of a setting/rising sun or a planet or something. i think it's cool.

Just ordered the hori screen protector and Wipeout 2048 for $37 shipped from amazon. Really hoping Uncharted is on sale somewhere, I love Uncharted but $50 is a bit steep for a portable game.

I played about 20 minutes worth of Little Deviants, and spent the time wondering what Sony is thinking marketing what may be the worst stab at children's franchising in a long time. The graphics are rubbish. The characters are appalling. The games themselves are not exactly a showcase.
I played for two minutes, and that was more than enough to confirm my suspicions that it was a complete pile of shit.

Little Deviants looks like a game that was designed to be used as a tech demo/pack in game but was somehow pushed into being a full retail product.

It should have been a free PSN download included with all Vita's.

Come on, it can't be that bad. I have no interest in it, but it doesn't look terrible.
From what I played of the demo, it was just very dull - the back touch pad interaction to deform the ground was kinda novel but it just felt like a tech demo.. Felt katamari-ish but without any of the charm. Kids might like it , though.

Yeah game is rubbish. Couldn't imagine playing it very long and definitely wouldn't be interested in returning to play it. Worse part is it is a retail title.

Speaking of, Vita is really going to blur the line of retail release versus PSN only release. With the PS3 it is pretty easy to discern a PSN title from a retail title most of the time. However, Publishers are going to have some tough decisions as to which format their games are released on the Vita. One game I see that already made a big mistake is Lumines. This franchise had a PSN release on the PS3 so it has already solidified it's status as a PSN game, and now it is coming to iOS or already has. So charging $40 for a game like that is suicide, and would have been better served as a downloadable title at $15. Another one is Sumioni, this title looks like a perfect downloadable game, but I think it is getting a retail release. Why? It looks good but not better than Outland, Rochard, or many other PSN titles.

Little deviants seems like the kind of game that should be a free download or come pre loaded on the system and not a standalone game in my opinion. No offense to the developers of course.

I agree. It's a tech demo and a cool gf/kids game. Definitely not for me though. I'm literally opening the first edition box inside of gamestop and trading it for credit.
See, this is why I can't rationalize the FEB for myself. They'd need to include a game I had genuine interest in (Uncharted or Wipeout), at least then it feels less like paying $50 to get it early and more sacrificing choice and a nicer (bundled) memory card to get it earlier. For immediate trade-in fodder that'd net me only $15 or something, screw it.

I agree that the lines will be blurred, hopefully PSN develops into a robust platform on the vita, and downloadable games sell well, pushing more games to it.

The Vita needs to be able to support a wide variety of price points in order to do well, and Sony has done a good job of launching with a few games as PSN only titles. Hopefully this will continue.

I'm trying to decide the best route, do I want to get a big memory card and then go all digital for my games or go physical media-

What is everyone else thinking? Physical, digital, or mix?

Im going physical so i don't have to purchase alot of memory cards plus my download speeds aren't the best either.

Do trophies still have to sync like the PS3? Or is it instantly synced as soon as you get it like the 360? I figured that trophies on the PS3 did that since trophy support was added after the PS3 was released and 360 had achievements from the start.

I tried so hard not to rationalize the FEB but playing the demo station sealed the deal. They better give at least $15 for little deviants.

Just ordered the launch bundle with Rayman Origins from Amazon with free Prime release day shipping! :D

Plan to pick up the digital version of Lumines, and maybe Escape Plan.

Can't wait.
