PixelJunk Eden out now on Steam

I'm enjoying it, just wish I could run it in window mode.

Ranking is currently at 262 players. Not sure if that's good or not for just a couple of hours. I did my part.

wait, does it support 360 pad or not?

Why wouldn't you want to try it with a new control scheme though? Joy2key may help. I actually intended to play this with m/kb as I loved it with the DS3 but this control method actually seems to compliment the game.

Just that it was so perfect with dual analogue on ds3, I'll still buy it but I'm a bit more apprehensive now.

Much better with a mouse. A lot less frustrating.

I wouldn't say that haha.

The rage when I dive bomb to the floor by mistake, ofcourse there's not gonna be a single platform between me and the floor when that happens. EVERY SINGLE TIME.

BOOM :D

Damn, I have no idea how to get high scores in this game but it's fantastic. Remember playing the demo on PS3 and really happy it got ported over to PC. Good show!

Now if only one could hope for Pixeljunk Monsters... that game was sublime once you got the hang of the income system.

I don't think they would port Monsters with the free Facebook port already available.

Bought the OST bundle! Tomorrow I'll go after you metalmurphy!
and fail miserably. ;)

edit: I never bought a OST bundle on Steam before. Are the audio files available to add to iTunes in the game's folder?

Another Spectra or two and you'll unlock the quick warp feature and that will no longer be an issue for you :)

Annnnnd wife-bought. She will finally finish this game.

Also, she says thanks for making the game, and she wants a sequel :)

I am reminded how let down by the PixelJunk Shooter games I was, not really by their quality, they are solid top notch fun games, but just in the conceptual and artistic department. Every aspect of Eden is so unique, where as Shooter is such a straightforward concept at its core. It seemed sorta like a step back.

They even order the games sequentially, in the style of a game world, "1-1", "1-2" and so on. Which makes me wonder, is "PixelJunk 4am 1-5" the boss of this world and then they start on PixelJunk 2-1? What would that entail? A move to 3D games which are a progression of the same design philosophy?

Are they going to update the PS3 version with the "retune"?

I don't think so.

Unfortunately the process to patch stuff on PSN is a lot more complex. We would have to re-compile and run Eden using the very latest developer SDK and that is quite a large task .. then it has to undergo testing and persuading Sony to do that after 4 years is pretty tricky.

Besides, the controls are tuned for mouse/keyboard now, in fact it plays so well it feels like it was made originally for the mouse in the first place.

Double dipped and it is totally worth it. Mouse controls are much better than expected and the improvements just make the game flow better. Already beat the first garden in one sitting. The mouse wheel warping evaporates the frustration of missing a jump.

Thanks!!! The double-dip is worth it, I think you'll double-enjoy it :)

Tell the right people to add a steam forum section for Pixeljunk games asap. Generally people like to use that as a centralized "hey there is a problem with this game" hub or feedback in general.

Edit: Looks like a forum was added and linked.

Yo, thanks so much for bringing this to steam, I just downloaded it, looking forward to playing.

also, thanks for star fox

Man, this game is awesome with headphones and a high-res display. The controls feel a lot better, especially when redirecting your dude after a jump. Definitely glad it made it's way over.

Bought two copies for me and a friend. Not sure what I'm getting into but I'm looking forward to it.

Edit: I have no idea what I'm doing but it seems cool.

Dark Souls is a bit like that at the start too but soon it gets inside your brain :)

Hmm, I was interested in this. But I do my PC gaming on a TV with a 360 controller, or on my laptop with a touchpad. No 360 controller support is kind of a deal-breaker

You really only need a mouse for this game, just connect a wireless one to your PC and use your couch armrest to control it.

I personally will play it with a mouse when I get it and I am glad they retuned it for the mouse but I think leaving out controller support was kind of foolish.

I can't emphasize enough how the game is no longer a "console" game in the sense that it feels like it is tuned perfectly for a mouse and only a mouse (or trackpad too of course). It's difficult to describe without you getting your hands on it and experiencing it for yourself, but the mouse with this game is like silky smooth.. sex :)

I'm sorry but no gamepad support because as you'll see it just works too well with the mouse. Its no longer an "aim and jump" game, and more of a click and jump and a lot more fluid and fun as a result. Sorry if that puts you off but it would be great if you made an exception for this one, you won't regret it.

Doesn't that automatically mean there is no more local multiplayer since only one mouse is supported in Windows? Pixeljunk Eden on PS3 was one of the few games this generation to offer local multiplayer and I enjoyed playing this way with my friends immensely.

Would you consider adding optional controller support just to get back local multiplayer in a future patch/version? It would be really sad to lose this awesome feature in the Steam version.

Edit: And since I'm already begging for features: general gamepad support instead of just XBox controller support would be very appreciated (especially since this game originated on PS3 and many existing Pixeljunk fans don't own an XBox controller). I realize this requires further development time, but it would be nice if the Steam release could be as feature complete as possible and I also hope the Steam sales would make it worth for you. :)

Wow, it's been four years since Eden's release? Everything makes me feel so old these days. :(

Personally Eden is my favorite out of the PixelJunk games (though I have not played Shooter 2 / Sidescroller). I hope the long term PC sales are good enough for you guys to consider releasing the rest, I would much rather have them on the PC.

It's a shame there aren't some extra levels or something like that. Would have given me an excuse to double dip on my favorite Pixel Junk game. But I wouldn't want to play it with mouse controls anyway. I just don't have the setup to do that comfortably. For those who have played it: Could it be playable with a Wiimote as mouse, or does it require ultra-precision?

Interestingly, I think it could work really well with the Wiimote as a mouse. I'd like to know too!
Did you already play the Encore levels on the PS3? We included them by default in the Steam version.

No controller support?

:(

Was gonna buy for the better checkpointing but if I can't even play it on my tv with a controller.....Will wait and see if it gets patched in

Same here, except it moved from "must buy" to "won't buy until it's patched in". I can't believe it's a console port without gamepad support, it's insane.

Would have bought it if it had gamepad support. It's the kind of game I like to lean back and enjoy, not hunch over a mouse pad with.

It's best not to think of it as a "console port", this is a bit of a mis-conception. If you forget the ps3 version existed, you'll see that it's simply an excellent PC game.

I don't even know how we'd support the gamepad with Eden in its current form - perhaps you could move the jump targeting cursor around with the left stick or something? It would be a bit like playing an RTS with a gamepad.
