PixelJunk Eden out now on Steam

Never really understood Pj Eden, but if the Steam version is launched with a demo I do want to try it again at least.

Shooter is my favorite of the bunch though, even though the collectibles in that game was a pretty bad idea. How fun is it to race around and shoot everything everywhere just for the sake of it?

Jesse left Q last week I'm afraid to chase love and indie dreams to Australia! We enjoyed having him with us and you can see his mark on Monsters Online which was his baby.

How unfortunate, but if it's not fitting it might be best to leave.
I'm excited to see what kind of new titles Q is going to do on 3DSWare. Would you mind to shed a light on how Q is organised? Were the PixelJunk and DSiWare teams seperate from each other?

Dylan here You might want to give it another go - we really revamped it considerably for Steam and it plays beautifully with the mouse... in fact, it is a much better suited game to the mouse!

The new quick warp feature that uses up a little bit of your energy to take you back to where you were last sitting is a godsend too. :-)

That and you don't need to re-collect Spectras like you did in the original because you start out right where you left off after each Spectra.

Are there any plans to bring the rest of the Pixeljunk series to Steam? I'm sure they'd do great there considering the type of games they are.

Throw in a PixelJunk Pack while you're at it :P

My wife wants more Eden content, wish the Steam hit would be big enough to justify the extra DLC or a sequel. Will double dip for hope.

It's a must play TBH. Especially for platforming fans.

Will double dip. I wonder if there is a way to play the original version without all the new updates.

One of my favorite parts of this game was the challenge. One wrong slip and your are doomed.

Edit: I wonder if there are plans for PJ games on mobile platforms after seeing it appear on other platforms lately ;)

It's still a huge challenge, just not frustrating (ie. you use up a small part of the oscillator energy bar by using the quick teleport, so don't use it *too* much!)

Right now it is an extra special one-off but who knows, I mean if the Steam fan base reacts well to it we could consider other titles or even releasing a brand new title to Steam exclusively, nothing is off limits for us really.

I'm really excited to see how the "wider world" will react on Thursday, and whether we really will see sales bigger than those on PSN. Fingers crossed!

all the mentions of monsters. Isn't it a Facebook or G+ game now? Dylan Cuthbert was twittering about it but I didn't pay attention as I already have the PSN version.

PJE is absolutely incredible though. music + gameplay. awesome fun. I have both PJE+encore. well worth buying.

Did... did you just stealth announce the release date, or was this known already?

EDIT: Wow, I didn't even read the source for my own thread fully.

yes, I'm not sure why kotaku hid that information so well in the article...

Feb. 2nd - this Thursday folks, no waiting around! :)

Well, you know what to do GAF!

The first game I will buy on Steam when I get the funds. I already own it on PSN and will gladly support more Steam releases.

Dylan, just curious. Why did you choose to bring Eden to Steam?

Its my favorite of the series, so I'm already a fan. But its also probably the most polarizing of your games. So just curious to hear how this one was chosen rather than something more easily digestible like Monsters or Shooter.

Well 1) it gave us the chance to tune it so it isn't polarising, something we were desperate to do with the original but couldn't because we didn't have the funds or the confidence (remember that Monsters wasn't the big hit it is now back then and had only just come out.. no-one had heard of us), and 2) I think Eden is simply underrated and want to get it out to a bigger audience because it really is a beautiful masterpiece of a game.

Our changes to the game and the superb mouse controls have ironed out all those common complaints from the original release. This should please everyone while still retaining the challenge and artistic integrity - we just got rid of anything people could find frustrating. (easy to do in hind-sight!)

Well I'll be honest and say that Eden was probably my least fav of the Pixeljunk series. But I'll still be buying again on Steam and I hope you guys will consider the Vita in the future! Good luck Dylan!

I wonder what is the best selling Q Games title?

a.) Monsters
b.) Shooter 2 (<--I am guessing this one)
c.) Monsters Deluxe
d.) Star Fox 64 3D

Well this version will turn you around! It's so slick and fun now with none of the more awkward quirks the PS3 version had... and we re-mastered all the music at a much high quality and bit-rates.

Eden was my least favorite game as-well of the Pixeljunk series. PixelJunk Monsters was the best, i would buy that in a heartbeat should it go on Steam.

Aw yeah. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXYbYMrwqfw

I'm so fucking in. I liked it a lot on PS3 (fave PJ game, no doubt) but I never finished it.

The subtleties of the sound come through so much better in the Steam remastered version... I found myself hearing a whole new layer to the music. (the format we remastered to for playback is ogg btw, so the bass comes out really meatily and the sound somehow feels more "analogue")

What are you expectations for Eden's steam release? Does it have a shot of becoming Q Games' best selling title to date?

My headphones are ready.

I hope they release monsters, though I don't like it anywhere near as much as I used to, I would like to play it again on a new platform and talk about it with my steam friends. I HATED eden, simply put that game was too hard for me, I went nuts just trying to look for those seed things to beat the level.

Is that the Steam market? wow... however some people might see it as "just an old game from PSN" (I hope not though because it's a really unique experience)

Over 5 million users were online at the same today

Valve PR said:
Valve® today announced the 2011 growth data for Steam, a leading platform for PC & Mac games and digital entertainment.

During 2011 the platform grew to offer over 1,800 games to over 40 million accounts. Year-over-year unit sales increased by more than 100% for the seventh straight year, and during the 2011 Holiday Sale Steam's simultaneous user number eclipsed the 5 million player mark.

Meanwhile Steam doubled the amount of content delivered in 2011 vs. 2010, serving over 780 Petabytes of data to gamers around the world. To meet the increasing demand for games and services on the platform, the Steam infrastructure more than doubled its service capacity and a new content delivery architecture was deployed to improve user download rates. Over 14.5 mil copies of Steamworks games were registered during the year, a 67% increase over 2010. Steamworks titles shipped during 2011 include The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution , and more. Since the suite of services was released three years ago, Steamworks has shipped in over 400 games.

"Steam and Steamworks continues to evolve to keep up with customer and developer demands for new services and content," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "Support for in-game item trading prompted the exchange of over 19 million items. Support for Free to Play (FTP) games, launched in June, has spurred the launch of 18 FTP titles on Steam, with more coming in 2012. Looking forward, we are preparing for the launch of the Big Picture UI mode, which will allow gamers to experience Steam on large displays and in more rooms of the house."

(reply when you claim it so others don't keep trying)

Have fun! You'll be the first person "in the wild" to play it!

So glad I clicked on this thread again. Claimed and downloading :)

Unfortunately I don't have a high end sound set so I wouldn't be able to tell that apart but honestly I'm enjoying the game much more than on the PS3 just due to the new mouse controls in the first 30 minutes of playing. Game is also super smooth and super clean. Big thumbs up from me. Will spread the news. Also looks like there's 61 achievements/trophies compared to the 32 in the original(If I'm remembering that correctly)

Controls feel muuuuuuuuch better than what I remember playing PJE on PS3. lmb to swing, rmb to jump, move mouse in direction to affect movement. Very fluid.

I put a lot of effort into this "fluidity"... it really feels awesome, even after all these years you'd think I'd have enough of playing Eden but I still found myself transfixed and even though for a particular test I would only need to collect a few Spectra I'd find myself grabbing 20 or 30 in a single play through, just because it was so damn enjoyable/fluid with the new controls.
