PS Vita US Launch Details (Launch Games, Accessory Pricing)

Are people who were already thinking of picking up a large memory card (16gb or 32gb) still going to pick up the 3g launch bundle?

I'm getting the 32GB and FEB. The 4GB in the FEB will be enough for Hot Shots and WipEout and I'm getting Uncharted on cart. The 32GB is shipping from Newegg so I'll have to wait a few days then I can download the rest of the stuff I want (few more Vita games and my PSP catalogue).

The developers for MLB: The Show said that the reason they cut out presentation (not all of the presentation, just a lot of it) was not because the Vita couldn't handle it, or for file size reasons. They cut it out because they said something about handheld gamers not playing a single title for hours on end. They wanted to make it more "handheld friendly" where you could play a game in about ten or so minutes.

Press X to skip.

PR will avoid all negative points, especially since it's a first party game. Sony doesn't want the Vita to look bad in any regards.

Verdict's still out on the FEB bundle though. Not sure it's worth it, though my opinion might change as launch nears. hnnnng.

I don't see how the verdict is still out on the FEB; it's pretty clear.

1) The only advantage is you get it a week early
2) You pay more for the cost of goods than if you were to buy the 3G bundle, so you lose money
3) The bundle used to save you money, but now it makes you pay more

Unless you like to pay more to get it a week early, there is no advantage to the FEB.

Pointless how? The Wi-Fi unit + 8gb card still saves you $20 if you don't care about 3G. Also, the "free" 250mb data session in the 3G launch bundle only kicks in after you've paid for the first session.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I just think that $20 is a very reasonable price to pay just to have the 3G option in the future should I ever decide it's worthwhile. The $50 jump was too much to justify, but once they added the 8 gb card to the deal I was sold.

Either way, the 3G bundle is a better value than the first edition bundle in terms of what you get...I guess you can't put a price on getting the system a week early but, it's only a week.

I'm pretty sure the main draw of the First Edition Bundle is the early week. I've always regarded the rest of the stuff as a bonus. It was advertised from the beginning as the way to get your Vita early, not as an added value bundle.

I'm wavering between the 3G bundle with the 8GB mem card, PSN Vita game voucher ($10 game, right?), and 250MB At&T data vs. a WiFi with a 32GB.

I'm potentially thinking about getting the 3G bundle and then selling the 8GB memory card (for maybe $15 or $20) and getting a 32GB mem card also.

I'm going to be buying Super Stardust regardless, so I figure that I can use the $10 PSN Vita voucher on that. In the end I would be paying $25 more by going with the 3G Bundle, but I would be gaining the 3G Vita instead of the WiFi, and would also get a month of 3G data...

Is this confirmed? This extra $15 I'd have to pay would definitely lock me into getting the WiFi Vita + 32GB

Tough choices!

The 250mb data session thing is confirmed though, from the ps blog:

So I caved in and pre-ordered a Vita launch bundle and the carrying case(not the bag thing) on Amazon. I figure I'm not buying a new console until the PS4, and they don't seem to be in a rush. I just had a few questions.

1. I assume Japanese vita owners know the average size of a game on PSN? How big is Uncharted and Gravity?
2. Are all games currently available on PSN playable on Vita? Do they look fine/run well?
3. The launch bundle comes with an 8gb memory card. Should that last me for a while? I was going to hold off for a 'deal' on a 32gb card in the future.
4. All Vita games will be cheaper digitally or is it just some?

PR will avoid all negative points, especially since it's a first party game. Sony doesn't want the Vita to look bad in any regards.

You could be right. I won't really ever know. They said that the presentation will pretty much not be in this years game, and likely not in next years either. It could be that you're right, or it could be that they're telling the truth.

Tough choices!

The 250mb data session thing is confirmed though, from the ps blog:

well damn.

Yeah, I think I'm just gonna stick with my pre-orders and go with the WiFi + 32GB.

The 3G Bundle (for me) would cost an extra $40 instead of $25 when you include the first month of 250MB needs to be paid before activating the free month.

That's dumb Sony/AT&T...

Although, as someone pointed out, it does beg the question of why the barrel roll boost is in there. When did that find its way into the series? Was it HD or the PSP games?

There are a bunch of inconsistencies with 2048 that I'm just choosing to ignore. Barrel rolling was introduced in Pure, but I can let that slide, but having magstrips is what really doesn't make sense. Magstrips weren't introduced until Pulse, and this is well known since they were really pushing how big of a feature it was then.

EDIT: And Pulse takes place in 2207, so that's some pretty advanced tech to just be throwing into what was suppose to be the "dawn" of the sport.

Unless you like to pay more to get it a week early, there is no advantage to the FEB.

That is true. You're losing out on $10. It comes down to how much value you feel getting it a week early is truly worth. That and what value you can assign to the included case being 'exclusive'.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I just think that $20 is a very reasonable price to pay just to have the 3G option in the future should I ever decide it's worthwhile. The $50 jump was too much to justify, but once they added the 8 gb card to the deal I was sold.

Yeah, I'll agree with that.

You know what will truly be a slap in the face for first edition buyers is if a bunch of places start selling the regular wi-fi and 3G Vitas earlier than the Feb 22 date, which I am betting will happen. :D

For me it was the week early AND you saved money that made it a no brainer. But now, they completely removed the saving money aspect of it. Not only did they removed that, but they gave a different avenue for a better way to save money.

Think about what it was before:

First Edition Bundle
3G Vita - $299
4GB Card - $20
Little Deviants - $30
Case - $20
Total - $370
Your Cost - $350
Savings - $20

Now it's

First Editon Bundle
3G Vita - $270
4GB Card - $20
Little Deviants - $30
Case - $20
Total - $340
Your Cost - $350
Savings - $0
Money Lost - $10

I can't answer 1 and 2, but I can say:

3) If you don't do all digital, the 8 gig should last for a while.
4) I think it was determined that they'd be ~$5 cheaper

Also, to errone else, case and screen protector recommendations?

I agree with you. However, February is income tax time, so this is one of those rare times that I have a little bit of disposable income, so I am kind of thinking spending 10 extra to get it a week early is almost worth it. I still think it's stupid they didn't add the 8GB card in, but what can ya do?

I kept trying to justify that spending a little more to get it a week early was worth it, but between swapping out Little Deviants for a game of my choice and picking a case of my choice, I just couldn't justify it anymore. I still can change my mind as I have both versions on order, but I'm having trouble find any thing to keep me on a FEB. Playing Little Deviants last night was sorta the last straw I think.

Income tax master race represent! This is like my Christmas for sure. I've bought the PS3 when it was 600, built my PC, PSP launch, and other things like TV's during income tax. This year happens to be Vita time and I'm pretty excited about it.

The 8GB card thing, g35 said he heard and I talked to a GS here in FL and they knew about it. Not sure if it's true but I hope 1st editions get the 8GB card instead of the 4.

I'm going with the HORI screen protector for the front, and trying the official Sony screen protector for the rear touch panel.

1. Uncharted is 2.7gb.
4. There was word on the PS blog that digital Vita games will be discounted, and that leaked Best Buy kiosk photo shows about a 10% discount on each game.

Not sure about 2, and 3 varies on use. For me, 8gb would be okay for a while since I'm going physical for most Vita games and digital for PSN titles and a few PSP games.

Is the game THAT bad? Hahaha

I opted out of FEB and went Wifi/3G with Hot Shots and Katamari (more my style anyways). But everyone seems to think Little Deviants is a shit storm of bad. I'll probably buy it on some random Amazon Gold Box sale or at Gamestop for almost nothing a few months later.

I'm going with the HORI screen protector for the front, and trying the official Sony screen protector for the rear touch panel.

Is the official Sony one designed for the back? Like, do they have a "Back screen protector"?

Yeah, I'm taking that with a grain of salt, but it would certainly be amazing.

I just pulled the Uncharted game card out of the case. What caught me by surprise is how thin the game is. It's literally an SD card.

My case options:

Pre-ordered
PDP PSVita Custom Crystal Case

Still considering instead:
PlayStation Vita Travel Pouch
HORI PS Vita Face Cover
HORI PS Vita Hard Case (Black)

My screen protector options:

Pre-ordered
HORI PS Vita Screen Protective Filter

I tried the Vita today and it's amazing :)

This seems to be the standard line from anyone who tries one.

The only time I played one I was stuck with Escape Plan which I didn't enjoy too much. The guy who was supposed to be helping me with the demo didn't seem to give a shit. Hardware looked great though.

No, it's not designed for that, but, it's the right shape, and I hear that the back pad will scratch pretty easily. I have to at least try to put a protector on it.

Reactions to Little Deviants seems wildly varied. Eurogamer gave it a 7/10. A lot of video reviews/demo impressions I've seen on youtube (by people like Skyghene22 of gaf even) seem to be amused by the game.

Not sure what to think as I've yet to try a Vita.

As for the screen protector, Sony is currently offering a 2-pack. I think it's expressly for the purpose of protecting the front screen as well as the back.

I don't have an answer handy but if you google there is a list of all the game sizes. Uncharted is 2777mb I believe.

It's addition, no instead from my understanding but we will find out. When First Edition releases, if it doesn't have the 8GB card, I will just change my pre-order (AGAIN) to the 3g that comes with the 8GB. Like I said, they made it a point to mention, it's only the initial batch of 3g units that will come with the 8GB card

That case looks superb - holds 8 games? Very awesome.

And I need to decide on a screen protector...I mean, I have never used one for my phone, my iPod touch (when I had one), and I don't use one on my iPad. :|

I'm kinda the same way. I'm surprised it's such a popular thing. I've never really had any scratches.

I'm highly, highly doubtful that the FEB's have been changed to include an 8gb from 4gb.

If that actually happened, wouldn't Sony have said anything about it?

What we need are some retail store employees to crack open an FEB box and tell us if it's a 4gb card included.

All those devices use glass surfaces; the Vita is plastic. Plastic is by far easier to scratch than glass.

That sucks :(

I saw a dude trying to play it but he was confused about the controls and left. Thankfully I had almost an hour to try it out so I could play or watch Gravity Rush, Wipeout 2048, Ridge Racer and Virtua Tennis 4.

All of those look amazing except RR which had framerate problems, but my god aren't the sticks A LOT more comfortable than PSP. Seeing Virtua Tennis 4 at 60 FPS with that perfect IQ and such a precise control on a handheld was really something.

Gravity Rush controlled perfectly too, at least for me, and I kicked the boss' ass without problems :) So good.

Couldn't try Wipeout myself but it looked awesome as well. And the OS (even though in DEMO MODE so I could only access the games) was so snappy, same with the touch screen.

I never said it changed, I just heard that 8GB will be included (maybe attached on box or something) with ALL INITIAL 3G UNITS. So I would imagine, that includes First Edition too?

That's how I took it from you and I was very specific to ask if it would be in or out of the box. We might now know until we get word from Sony or until we pick the 1st editions up ourselves.

@UFRA, I think I may just go with that one and then maybe order the Hori when it hits. I will not be caught like a deer in the headlights with no screen protector.

We're not aminals here!

Also thanking Sony for releasing during Tax Season.

Tax return, Christmas bonus, and an additional $100 bonus from our corporate group just in time for Vita launch. :D

I just got back from messing with the Vita for a couple minutes at Gamestop. Like people have said, the sticks are small and I really did not get use to them in my short amount of time. The system feels so light and feels good in my hands. I tried Uncharted, Hot Shots, and Escape Plan. I found the requirement to use the touch screen in games kind of annoying but something that hopefully goes away or you would get accustomed to doing it.

What was odd for me was the rear touch panel and how it was mapped to the screen in Little Deviants. Touching the front screen makes sense, but it's harder to figure the relation of my finger on the back to where it is on the screen. I hope not too many games use that type of precision for the rear touch panel. It's sorta annoying.

Sorry, it still sounds dubious to me. You'd think there would be word from Sony if that were to happen, like when they were quick to clarify that the promotional 250mb data pass + free PSN game would be included with the FEB as well as the new 3G Launch bundle.

So, the 8gb card would be taped onto the box? What about the 4gb card that's already included in the First Edition bundle? Will that remain or be removed? I'm kinda amused by the idea of 12gb split across two cards.

It's likely that the FEB bundles were already on cargo ships, and in warehouses when the decisions were made to beef up the other bundles.

I'm guessing that the logic was something like this:
People will buy the FEB because they can't wait to have the thing. People that don't get the FEB will want the wifi version, and we'll never sell the 3G versions based on the reactions people are having. Let's beef up the 3G (for a limited time), and cater to all types of buyers. The impatient, Those who want a value deal so we can move 3G units, and the remainder will buy wifi.

I figure it be the ladder, Sony already mentioned the 8GB card, they not going to go into detail I would imagine.

I don't know man, I'm just bringing out the details from what I hear it. We won't know how true they are until it releases.

All initial 3G Units is just the 3G SKU. The First Edition Bundle is something entirely different.

That's what I initially thought (and still do) but they pointed it out to be different so we will see. I'm not holding my breathe though lol
