PS Vita US Launch Details (Launch Games, Accessory Pricing)

Having instant access to games on PSN anytime you want is both great because you can get what you want without having to wait for a store to open, and horrible on your wallet for that same convenience. I think I will have a love/hate relationship with PSN from now on.

The problem is you will have to wait for Grace Chen to hit the button (if you're talking about US PSN). PSN download speeds are usually inconsistent too. At the moment, retail people will be able to get games first before PSN releases them

Right, PSN download speeds do suck. But it seems like the US PSN has been in a roll in regards to updating earlier in the day (PST wise) lately. And since I won't be receiving my 3G Vita until 2/22, I'll be able to have Lumines, Hot Shots, Stardust Delta and Virtua Tennis waiting on my PS3's HDD.

But future, post launch, games from PSN? Yeah, we'll have to be patient during the downloads.

I think this might highlight the REAL goal with the First Edition bundle. It gets the system out there along with some of the games, so any online service kinks can be ironed out via early adopters, kind of like a one week beta test. By the time the proper launch happens there'll be games available no matter what time of day you got the system, bandwidth usage won't spike as badly, and any minor issues probably won't exist anymore.

Is it true that the Vita version of Wipeout comes with a voucher for the ps3 version? or the voucher just has extra content for the ps3 version?

Christ, this thing is coming out a lot sooner than expected. I have not been keeping up with Vita news at all.

Wipeout 2048 is enough reason for me to pick up a vita, other than that I know nothing about the launch games. Might pick up uncharted also.... Although uncharted has kinda got boring for me, still need to finish 3.

I dont have a PS3 so I am not really sure how all this works, but seeing as how Rayman 3 is coming to PSN march 21st, does this mean I can download and play it on the Vita?
I have seen some discussions on the thread about what things the Vita will and wont play, but I dont really know anything about Playstations online infrastructure.

Just made it official. Went with the basic wi-fi model and a 16gb memory stick. Gonna start with Uncharted and Wipeout, but I'll probably break and get a couple more games like Rayman or Hustle Kings. Can't wait.

Went to Gamestop to play around with it. Not sure how I feel. The OS is solid, the screen is great, but it feels so light and stiff, and the buttons are really small, I worry about having cramps in my hands with extended play. The front and back touch screens were neat with the Little Deviants demo, I wish I had more time playing the other demos, but I had just gotten off of work and would have rather come home and relaxed.

Actually, just after my last post, I started thinking. fEB comes with a case and a 4 gig stick. Not too long after the release of the system, can we expect to see 3rd party cards? If so, FEB isn't a bad idea, even at 4 gigs, because I want to upgrade to a 32 gig 3rd party later (when it's actually affordable). Food for thought I guess...
There has been no mention of 3rd party cards and they are as yet only used in the Vita. If Sony doesn't license anyone to make cards then it's unlikely you'll see anything from the likes of Sandisk.

There's a huge spread on MLB 12 in the current issue of Game Informer (Gamestop mag). It sounded interesting enough on the Vita, despite the fact that they cut out presentation. After a while I press the buttons to get to the next at bat on the PS3 version, so I don't see it being an issue for some people.

I thought I'd seen a MLB video where one of the devs was talking about the presentation and he said that it was an option for those that wanted a shorter experience. I'll see if I can find it. Though reading other replies it seems there is other confirmation that they have dropped it entirely.

It will not play unless it is designed for the Vita. That it is a PSN game is irrelevant as the game has to be coded for that system.

If they release a game that says "PS3/Vita" then it will of course work but none of the existing PS3 PSN games have been announced as getting Vita versions yet.

What I'd like to hope is that future PSN only games will get a PS3 & Vita release. I can understand them not wanting to put say Uncharted 3 on the Vita or GOW3 as they are massive games. But PSN only games should IMO be released on both platforms going forward.

Only if they make a Vita version, which i don't think they are.

I think I get it, thanks mate, you've been really helpful over the past few days to a Sony newcomer such as myself.
Also, now I am stuck with trying to work out what case to buy, as I am fitting the Vita with a silicone, a lot of those really nice looking cases being snapped up by other gaffers probably wont fit my Vita :-(

I strolled to my GameStop here to order a dock for the Vita. Was surprised to find out that they could sell me one right away. So there, I have a Vita dock sitting on my desk, but no Vita yet. >_<

They also told me that some of the people who pre-ordered First Edition Bundle have received their unit. I banged on their counter and demanded for mine but they said they ran out. I got to wait.

[Look at the empty dock]

So yeah... I can answer any first impression question about the dock. -_-

The local Gamestop has a demo unit, and I debated going to try it out. I decided not to because I thought I'd rather the experience out of the box touching it for the first time. Seeing the screen, and everything when it's actually mine. I thought, maybe, it's less mentally taxing touching something I can't actually take home, and keep. Especially something I really want, and will have within a reasonable amount of time.

Additionally, I'd rather not think about the health risk of touching a unit that so many others are touching all day without washing their hands. To be honest, there are enough opinions out there regarding the screen, sticks, touch panel, demos and everything else Vita out there to know what to expect without actually experiencing it.

This being said, there is one thing I'm still curious about. That would be charging the battery. Generally speaking, you're supposed to turn on your electronics, and drain the battery first to train the memory of the battery, then charge it to full. I've actually been guilty of not doing this, then charging the device without a full drain in order to avoid not having enough charge to last thoughout use of my electronics. I wonder if this will still happen with the Vita if I do not change my habbits.

With the iphone 4s, I'm told that charging whenever I feel like charging will have no negative effect on the battery life because, unlike an android based phone, the iphone 4s will kill the charging once the battery is full. As long as I drain to empty, and completely charge once every two months at minimum, my iphone 4s battery supposedly will be fine. I am fearful that this is not going to be the case with the Vita, and I must change my charging habbits to be sure to drain the batter, then charge to full just about every time. Does anyone know what charging habbits should be employed with the Vita? I ask this because I assume I'll be charging this thing all the time with such a short battery life.

Personally i went with this case which comes with a game case and other bits and bobs. Looks pretty good to me.

In that case I will just get it on XBL.
But they are making a Vita version of strangers wrath, right?
So looking forward to playing that again!

Yup there is a Stranger's Wrath in development. Last i heard it was still aimed for launch, not heard any more on that yet.

How neurotic can you be to be THAT worried? Actually, nevermind, just take an alcohol wipe or something with you and so long as the employees don't protest you'd probably be fine.

Someone I knew very well touched a handrail in a very large public train station, contracted something by touch, got very sick, and died.
At work, lots of people get sick from touching the doorknobs, and other things co-workers touch.
I'm not paranoid, or neurotic, just aware of health risks when it's flu season.

You're welcome man. I'm just trying to answer as many questions as I feel able. I've been lurking on here since the PS3 slim was announced 2 years ago and have been following every Vita thread quite closely (very quiet job) so I've picked up quite a bit. The more I can help folks out with stuff the better.

Why are you putting silicone around it though? for grip or in case you bounce it?

You are probably going to need one of the pouches rather than a case if you do decide to stick with the silicone. There are plenty about I think.

They also told me that some of the people who pre-ordered First Edition Bundle have received their unit. I banged on their counter and demanded for mine but they said they ran out. I got to wait.

I'm surprised GameStop broke the street date for hardware, I kind of expect it from the independents. I wonder what Sony think.

Just got back from the Vita social club that thing is incredible, it feels so light and the screen and graphics were incredible for all of those games.

Does anyone else think that Sony missed a huge opportunity by not encoding the Jak and Daxter collection for the Vita? It comes out on Tuesday, couldn't they have ported to the Vita and released on the 21st? I know I would have bought the collection day 1 for Vita, now I might get it on Black Friday if there is a great deal on it.

I sort of agree, but I wouldn't call it a "huge opportunity." Like you, I would have purchased it day 1, but it's not a costly mistake or anything.

I honestly am beginning to wonder how many people getting a Vita never had a PSP. It has to be why no one seems to care about the new Lumines at all. Kind of depressing.

So serious question, what are you looking for, and what would excite you on both of these fronts? I'm just curious what would seriously meet your expectations.
Did Jtwo answer this yet? I think it's an interesting question. There's an insane variety of genre representation both at and around launch. Even most of the ports, assuming they function properly, are ports of legitimately good games. The lineup is also bolstered by whatever PSN PSP games end up getting supported. The unit itself is an incredibly capable dedicated handheld tailored for all kinds of gaming experiences. What's the deal? It's totally fine to feel underwhelmed and irked by some things, but c'mon now.

Both, my wife wants to try it out(I hope it gets her into gaming) so I think it might be a good idea to make it as sturdy as possible.
Also ordered a Hori screen protector and a rear screen protector. This thing is an investment, no way am I letting any harm come to it!

Well, I'm at least one!

Looking forward to playing PSP games on Vita. It's just a shame that many games are missing like Tactics Ogre (?).

Nope Tactics Ogre is on PSN. The most notable of the missing Square titles are Crisis Core and Kingdom Hearts: BBS, but pretty much everything else is on there.

I had a PSP at one point but never bothered picking up Lumines...heard a lot about how good it is though. I'm just usually not one for puzzle games, dating back to tetris on the game boy. Hated that crap, so boring.

Any other significant RPGs missing?

I own many PSPs, and I like Lumines. I just don't like Ubisoft or $40 games.

Ok, yeah, that'd explain it then, sorry about that.

I feel somewhat similarly. I mainly just hate Ubisoft on PC, and Lumines was fun but not $40 fun for me. It's a puzzle game, I'd really have preferred $30 for it much like Tetris on the 3DS. Guess it's either licensing or Ubisoft not caring in light of it being a launch title a lot of people will buy anyway.

I never had a PSP, as I have been waiting for a twin stick handheld to be announced, anything less didnt spark my interest, but finally what I have been wanting for years is here, and I can play console games while my wife is watching TV. Bite sized games arent really my thing, but I think I might be more willing to try different genres on the Vita, knowing that the pricepoints are going to be somewhat more agreeable. Heck I might even delve into Japanese influenced games, which has always been a no no for me in the past, but I am seriously thinking of picking up the PSP download of minster hunter, in fact, I am looking forward to it.
EDIT: mOnster hunter!
minster hunter is probably something very different LOL.

Someone on RedFlagDeals is claiming that the GameScoop podcast stated that Little Deviants is actually a Voucher in the FEB. Not sure how reliable "GameScoop" is though.

no Star Ocean :-(

$5 surcharge to get your memory cards early
to stare at
!

the 32GB at least is priced right :-P

it's IGN's flagship podcast so...

on the playstation blog Jeff Rubenstein said it'll be a game card and not a code. SCOOP!

Just came from gamestop and played the Vita a full hour. Took some mysticism out of the thing, but now that I know Ninja gaiden, UMVC3, VT4, And Gravity Daze play fuck awesome I'll probably jump on early. still waiting on my WalMart 15% discount hookup, though for my 3G edition and 32GB memstick.

So I'm thinking of changing my pre-order to the 3G Launch Edition.

I think I'm going to get the 3G Launch Bundle.

Someone that owed me money just gave me $60.

So now, if I get the Wifi Bundle and have to buy my own memory card, I'd get 16GB over 8GB since I'd want more card since I'm already paying for one.

So:

$249.99 (Wifi Vita)
- $60.00 (Money I received)
- $196.00 (Trade In Credit)
+ $59.99 (16GB Memory Stick)
_________

Out of pocket expense = $53.98

But if I get the 3G Launch Bundle

$299.99 (3G Vita with 8GB Stick)
- $60.00 (Money I received)
- $196.00 (Trade In Credit)
____________________________

Out of pocket expense = $43.99

So I'd be saving $10. Is that worth the 8GB I'm losing in space? I know that eventually I'll want a 32GB card anyway so I figure it might be worth waiting to purchase a card and let Sony give me one for free for the time being.

What do you think? Worth it?
