Cowboy Bebop Episodes 16-19

ef- a tale of memories Episode 2

This show is artsy as fuck. The dub took a hit in quality this episode but I’ll stick with it unless it gets really bad. So far I’m digging where the story is going and all the characters are likeable enough.

Phi Brain 18:

Is that Taketatsu Ayana I hear? I do believe that's Taketasu Ayana I'm hearing. As an imouto no less. Yes, I've been corrupted.

Nonoha... what on EARTH are you doing? Also, return of the idol giver chick.
So much for all that friendship talk the previous episode. The second Kaito actually really needs them around and they all bail sans Nonoha. Granted, Gammon's change of heart is the only one that makes sense in that he wants to protect the others from the danger of an Orpheus-possessed Kaito (especially Nonona). That puzzle was really intense though, and it's nice to see some actual character drama with Gammon changing sides.

Totally shocked if this was Rook's plan all along. I did like how he was against killing the friends

I like how everyone in the thread thinks HanaIro is some terrible pandering show because 7th is perpetuating this body pillow thing as if not all anime get this kind of merchandising.

These are the only official K-ON!(!) dakimakuras:

If only all anime was as wholesome as K-ON...

Just kidding; I only posted that dakimakura for firehawk's sake, because he always talked about that one girl.

I don't think it was Rook's plan all along per say, but I do believe that once the group lost its synergy he decided that Gammon would be an easy target. Granted, he didn't even need to do much, seeing as Gammon was the one who went to see the idol chick.

~boring declaration of your boredom~ Boring Space Not-Pirates 5:

Why am I still watching this? Why does this show have the dramatic flair of Das Boot? I mean, The Hunt for Red October was bad enough, now they are channelling Das Boot. Let me get this straight. So your spaceship fires an energy weapon past another spaceship, AND IT RATTLES WHEN THAT HAPPENS? What the fuck is this? It's not like when you're in a submarine and a torpedo explodes near your sub and the whole sub shakes! YOU'RE IN SPACE! YOU AREN'T EVEN PASSING THROUGH ANY KIND OF MEDIUM LIKE WATER, IT'S VACUUM! AND THEY ARE FIRING A FUCKING LASER AT YOU, IT DOESN'T DISTORT THE NONEXISTENT MEDIUM YOU ARE IN WHICH COULD CAUSE THE OTHER FUCKING SHIP TO BE AFFECTED UNLESS YOU ACTUALLY SCORE A DIRECT HIT ON IT!

God, I thought the Wing Commander movie was terrible at this. This show is just dumbest thing I've ever seen at this. Rather, I should say, it's the DAMBEST thing I've ever seen. Ready the DAMMY systems for electronic warfare!

It's a particle beam, not a laser. It's basically super-heated being accelerated at high velocities. The thing is passing by the hull of the ship, and while there's only JUST enough to see the light of it, the actual heat of the beam is going to cause a bit of fluctuations in the hull. ie, the sudden uneven heating and cooling of the ship's hull is going to cause some noise, and it would in fact be that kind of creaking noise we heard.

BTW, if you REALLY want something to nitpick, use the fact that they didn't use the boosters to prevent the enemy ship from using infrared when in fact, a space faring vessel by its nature must dump MASSIVE amounts of heat to maintain human operating conditions. Infrared would have been instantaneous.

Just drop it if you don't like it. Jeeze...

C3 4-12

Finished watching this, which I left at episode 3 for a long while. On one hand it's been entertaining thanks to the mix of comedy and seriousness, on the other it was really stupid because of that.
Still I'd like a second season to see more of what hasn't been shown.

Dirty Pair 16

I really liked how the episode title card came as a direct continuation of the pre-title conversation between the Dirty Pair and their boss. Clever touch.

So 80s.

Mushroom Samba was one of the best eps! If Apollon does not include them having a jam session while toked, I will be severely disappointed. Not only is it standard procedure when jamming, it's a Watanabe staple.

I'm a huge, unfortunate, unloved, Mucc stan, so; in other news, the PV for InuxBoku's OP single from Mucc has hit.

Mucc- Nirvana

It's not classic Mucc, in the slightest, but it's not 'I don't know what the fuck I'm doing anymore, someone fucking end me' Mucc either. I approve.

MARU! MARU! MARU! MARU! MARU!

After the disappointing absence of MARU! in the episode proper before, they made up for it by giving us lots of MARU! I'm not really interested in Lan but there was also a Wan.

So this episode was mainly about the main story of the show, such as it is, getting started. Seeing Young Laffinty at the beginning was to establish her relationship with Young Orangejulius or whatever his name is. The real Princess Laffinty is the younger sister of the man who would become the king of La Garite, and from a young age she was acquainted with Prince Orangejulius who is the younger brother of the future king of Demetria. At that time it seems that La Garite and Demetria were not at war with each other, though whatever greater galactic conflict which has been going had already started by that time. We see Laffinty's older brother leaving with a La Garite fleet for the war.

Much later on, the war seems to have been going on for some time without a resolution. Laffinty is with a La Garite expedition who are looking for the legendary mechas called Vox to win this war for them. Roughly 10 years ago, a human archaeology team led by Madoka's cousin found Vox Aura in the seabed off the coast of Japan. Madoka was evidently with them at the time and fell overboard or something and nearly drowned, she encountered Vox Aura and was branded with the Memoria. It seems the Voxes aren't real picky about who they brand, since Mugi was able to get the same thing to happen to her by simply touching Vox Ignis.

Whatever faction Demetria is now with apparently has more than one group vying for power in their leadership, as the first 3 guys who arrive at Earth (Kirius, Array, and Izo) are quickly defeated by Prince Orangejulius and forced to work with his faction, Kiss. It's not clear at this time if Kiss are in rebellion against Demetria or allied with them, or what is actually going on in the war that Demetria and La Garite are involved in.

Anyways, it looks like Mugi's with Madoka and Lan now whether she likes it not, because she seems to have pissed off Orangejulius for the last time. Whoever Mugi really is, we know at this point that she's not actually related to Orangejulius but he took her in some time ago and has been caring for her even though he's the leader of a faction involved in an intergalactic war which has apparently been going on for at least a decade or more. I'm sure this will be much more interesting later on, or not.

Orangejulius got a pretty cool coat out of his visit to Earth, though.

Oh, right, this art at the end was awesome:

For those who don't know, it's a reference to Ichiro. That's what he always does before he gets into his batting stance. Ichiro usually holds the bat right side up, though.
This video shows it pretty clearly.

Symbolism Time: I think the bird represents a dick.

Does this mean that Mugi is the uke, and Madoka and Lan are the seme(s)?

I just realized that she only does MARU! with her hand this episode, instead of waving her whole arm. I guess this is good for quick MARU!s where the full arm motion wouldn't be quick enough, or when sitting at the table where waving the whole arm would be impractical.

Up to episode 20 on my grand Magical Project S rewatch.

I'd totally forgotten how awesome Sasami's dad is, the entertainingly kid-friendly decision to subtitle "sexy" as "lovely", and how hilarious Washu's introduction scene in episode 7 was. I really feel this show should have been a bigger hit than it was--the comedy and the drama episodes both work, the characters are fun, and Pixy Misa is the best evil magical girl ever.

Pleasantly surprised to find the bonus features on the DVD. Cinderella Misa is good fun.
