[Crayon Shin Chan: The Storm Is Calling -The Adult Empire Strikes Back!]

Crayon Shin Chan
is one those long running, extremely popular TV shows that ‘everyone’ knows in Japan, but that substantially fewer people know about or discuss outside it’s country of origin. I’ve certainly never watched an episode, but the premise seems simple – Crayon Shin Chan is a comedy that stars, well, Shin Chan, a bratty little kid who likes to mess around, indulge in his desires and generally get into trouble. The series has been running since 1992 and there have been a whole slew of movies to accompany it released on a yearly basis, the one I’m going to be talking about came out in 2001 and for simplicity sake I’ll be calling it TAESB from here on out.

-snip

It was super popular back in the day in China also, I remember every kids would rushing to the manga store or news stand checking everyday for the release date. I am still a big fans even now, I own and loved every volume of the manga.

I gain a lot of popularity when it was dub in cartoon network(?) in US. They changed all the jokes to make it more "Americanized", but it is for the better. Reading back the old Chinese Shin-Chan manga, they need a footnote almost every time when they make a joke, since there are no way anyone outside of Japan will recognize those pop-culture reference.

I do personally enjoy all the Shin-Chan movies, and since it has a specified story instead of just "daily family life stuff", the funny parts can be understand by people that doesn't know much about Japanese culture.

Too bad there will not be anymore Shin-Chan, since the original author passed away a few years ago.

And this all with the voice of hnnngzawa.

It's nice how I see all the little things with new eyes for a moment. What a adorable anime.

Persona 4 ep 17

Epic battle and action scenes, should have lasted the entire episode, no silly Yosuke moments made the remainder seem kind of dull.
Have no idea who the culprit is, doing an excellent job keeping them a secret
.

Both battle themes were nice, especially Reach out to the truth, but it sounded way different then the other time it was used earlier.

LOL, why the :/ ???

I'm not a fan of Melon-chan chests but people of people are so I understand the reasoning behind this design. At least there aren't any loud 'boing-oing' noises when she walks around!

I'm just surprised that those things are animated whenever she moves in every episode she's been in so far.

I like big boobs, but for some reason they're drawing Muginami as if she's Hitomi Tanaka. I like big, but that's a big TOO big. ^^;

Rinne 5

The MARU works better in small doses, methinks. Anyway, plot episode was kinda boring. Needs more "friendship" and less whatever the hell the show is actually about.

Mugi getting put in her place was kinda rad, tho. What a bitch.

Gundam Age 18

I enjoyed the development of characters, Zehert and Asemu. Romary is intriguing for the plot
Seems that she likes them both but blushed more at Zehert, though Asemu seems interested in her, but Zehert also seems interesting too. Such an awkward position for an antagonist even more feeling relieved after events were said and done this episode

Zedas R is interesting if it didnt have such weird placement for arms, though I like its jet mode, Gundam should borrow its concepts.

Muginami just looks bad. Design blows, character is worst, and when she's on screen, that's just screentime that Lan could have taken.

warning: I've yet to watch episode two.

Lan and Muginami need casual clothes, they look way too silly interacting with normal people while wearing their stripper costume.
I have nothing against the ridiculously skimpy pilot suits, though.

Looks Lan had enough sense to get human clothing, good.

Ghost In The Shell 2 Innocence

Man, this film. This was another movie I've been wanting to watch for a while but I've never had the chance before. Luckily a friend was willing to let me borrow it so this is how I decided to spend my Superbowl Sunday. I absolutely loved it. The film was visually breathtaking with really great art direction and top notch atmosphere. Some really amazing scenes such as the parade and the mansion scene. The use of philosophical quotes was a tad overbearing though. It felt like half the dialogue was them quoting something. I thought the overall plot was really well done, aside from that. A bit slow paced but I was pretty much expecting that from the beginning. It's been a few years since I've watched the original so I'd definitely like to go back and watch that and give this a re-watch since it seems like a film that needs more than one watch.

I gotta say though after this, I think I actually like the movies more than the SAC series.

Welp, that's another anime film on my backlog out of the way. Got Redline and Howl's Moving Castle next on my list...

Bakuman 2 ep 18

Plot is getting even more intense, Eiji as cool as ever and Saiko fired up. Yuujiro for best editor, though
hilarious when the random Oonishi got the promotion to lead...

Please tell me that Shujin isnt actually getting married to Miyoshi!

Which manga artist had done three weeklies simultaneously?

Black★Rock Shoother (TV) 1:

Wait, what? Since when did B★RS change from a sweet story about friendship to a bunch of creepy stalker shit? Seriously, what the fuck is with these people? Welcome to Creepytown, Population: Everyone! I'm pretty sure I'm being trolled here, everything good about the OVA was changed and made worse for the TV show. The real world sequences now feature creepy and fucked-up stalker versions of everybody, except poor Mato and Yomi. The Otherworld sequences now feature B★RS being brutally mutilated by a mechanical giant enemy crab.

I don't know what the fuck is going on, but I blame Mari Okada. The same director and most of the rest of the staff from Ordet return. The 3DCG sequences are actually very impressively animated, you basically almost can't tell it's CG. But damn man, someone took B★RS and turned it into a fucking Stephen King novel, this shit is fucked up.

Phi Brain 18

Epic turn of events!
Did not expect the plot to go this way, Kaito's friends are so disappointing. They should offer support not abandonment. Nonoha is great for sticking around. Cant believe anyone would defect, or even Gammon. Why so much hate for Kaito Jikugawa and that voice changer was cool.

The "puzzle" was pretty great with excellent lighting effects. Based on developments, no way they can actually address the actual God Puzzle and God Scrolls in this season, so I guess thats what season 2 will be on.

Persona 4: The Animation - 17://Getting love letters from other girls may be hazardous to your health

This show continues to be impressive now, much more impressive than it was at the start. They handled Naoto's arc very well, and even threw in a hilarious realistic application of the the skill that makes you feel old in the game. And then they began setting up the next arc, it looks like with only 9 episodes to go they are pretty serious about finishing the whole story and doing it right. I don't think the first 3-4 episodes were worth of the 20,000 units sold per BD/DVD volume in Japan, but starting with Yukiko's arc they have really turned the show around.

The new OP "key plus words" certainly feels different than the usual Shoji Meguro song, except well, having listened to it several times now, I KNEW I've heard this style before. And I was right:
Soul Phrase (Persona 3 Portable OP)
Unbreakable Ties (Persona 2: Innocent Sin Portable OP)

So my anime club actually showed Revolutionary Girl Utena. I hope people vote on it next week, but the first episode was absolutely FABUUUUULOUS.

Symbolism out the ass.

Also I kind of like Lagrange. The show doesn't take itself very seriously.
