It sucks when we, and pundits, are realizing things that AVB should have realized quite some time ago!! GRrrrrrrrrrr.

It's insulting enough that he started him, let alone keeping him the whole game at the expense of the guy who caused a lot of trouble for United.

Torres could have easily scored the fourth and finished it yesterday. United are so damn lucky our striker can't do shit.

Relax son - surely he'll realise. This is Malouda's last stint at the club; I'm 100% sure of that. The lad De Bruyne should come straight in in the summer; I was impressed with him when I watched Genk in the CL, setting up a goal against us no less. He's quick and direct - a natural wide player - something that, for all his quality, Mata is not.

I don't know why we don't play a more fluid system - this rigid 4-3-3 needs to disappear from football; or at least the managers and players need more freedom to roam. Look at City's system - somehow Mancini has managed to play Dzeko, Aguero, Nasri and Silva in the same 11 - our equivalent 4 was Malouda, Torres, Mata and Sturridge. Mata needs a free role like Silva and Torres needs someone in and around him like Aguero is to Dzeko.

We need cover at left back, despite Bosingwa doing a decent job yesterday, why talk up Bertrand all week for him not to play? Give the lad minutes - that's the only way these guys get better. Send him on loan to a premier league side if needs be? Look at Man United as a fantastic example - Cleverly and Welbeck went on load to good premier league sides and have come back better players. We sent Borini on loan to Swansea, and sold him, Di Santo to Wigan, sold him. We should have sent Lukaku to Stoke, Paizon to a side struggling for forwards - otherwise these guys sit on the bench and never get a chance to improve and show what they can do.

It's a truly tough situation bro, I wish you the best with the move, hopefully with a better pay and good environment too. Did you figure out what kind of work you want to do? I'm still kind of stuck. I'd even go for a masters but I'm not sure what program i'd go for. Clueless like my football manager, I am :[

Oh, I have no idea what I want to do. Or rather, it would be another undergrad degree for that. I do think there is more school in my future, but I don't know if it is MBA, an undergrad degree, or graduate school so I can teach. I think you are a similar age as myself (23-24?) which means we still have lots of time to figure it out. Don't think you're alone in your situation.

We seem very reluctant to give youth a chance. Lukaku and Piazon both look to be big talents and they deserve some first team opportunities, be it at Chelsea or on loan elsewhere. The glimpses we've seen of Bertrand have been very promising. McEachran has started well enough at Swansea. There's probably other's I'm forgetting but it's clear we do have some
good young players who are being misused for no good reason.

Speaking of Josh, do you think he has a chance to get into the first team next year?

Look who showed up at Cobham on Saturday

Yes - he's exactly the type of player we need in the middle of the park. He plays much like Wilshere at Arsenal - simple passes, great control - he keeps the play moving.

Midfield options of Mata, McEachran, Ramires, Romeu, Essien/Meireles is a lot more promising than what we have currently - especially if it's fielded correctly.

And you're right - I don't understand having these guys warming themselves on the touchline when we struggled against Norwich and Swansea - what's the point in signing these guys if they're not going to play anywhere?

You might be in for disappointment from De Bruyne if you think he's ready to sit on Chelsea's bench. He's still pretty rough and limited as a player, he'll need 2-3 more seasons probably before he's good enough to play for Chelsea. According to him and Belgian medias, he'll be going on loan next season to a sub-top club (FC Twente apparently) and hope to improve and come back to Chelsea one day. He wouldn't mind staying one extra season at Genk either.

And about Lukaku, pretty sure they wanted to send him on loan months ago after they realized he was nowhere near as good as his price tag implied but he can't be loaned to another club until this summer since he's played for Anderlecht and Chelsea already.

Lukaku might come good but he's a huge gamble. He got overhyped because he's so big for an 18 years old kid, but for his sake he needs to play and progress loads. If no EPL club wants him, send him to Championship, he desperately needs playtime. He's a really good kid, kind hearted and all, but it also means he lacks that arrogance that some other youngsters have so his confidence is shot pretty quickly once he sits on a bench.

Happy birthday DC. Hope you've had a good one mate.

This is my last day at home before I return to China. Somewhat sadface.

Also. Can we have an internet moment of silence for the Munich Air Disaster? Terrible tragedy.

As a quick aside. Anyone else going tonight? I got a ticket for the Main Stand.

Yep, in Anny Rd Upper. Quite looking forward to it to be honest.

I don't see the point in sending people on loan abroad - no offence to the other leagues, but English football is so different to anywhere else. Send De Bruyne on loan to the Championship - there's clubs down there crying out for players who can only afford loaners - and there's some footballing sides down there - Blackpool, Cardiff, Watford, Birmingham to name a few.

I like that we've taken a gamble on these guys - it's not something we do very often - Torres aside. Lukaku, Paizon, Romeu, De Bruyne - Romeu has walked into the side - these other guys have been given mere minutes of football. There are clubs who would jump at the chance to take some of our guys on loan - I'm sure of it.

Me too. I'm hoping Carroll will start and be able to impose himself a bit. In my mind as soon as refs start blowing up every time he goes near an opposition player he should be brought off since it's such a big part of his game and our strategy with him on the field. Crouch was the same. Reckon Suarez will start?

Yeh, I think Suarez will come in for Bellamy.

Middle of Spearing, Henderson, Gerrard
Front of Kuyt, Carroll, Suarez

Frimpong is out for the rest of the season. Another glass player to add to the Arsenal collection.

Doesn't bode well for AVB.

Mark Hughes said he knew he was for the high jump the moment the chairman turned up at Carrington for training.

Not sure if it has been mentioned re: Chelsea's trials and tribulations with youth but Borini scored 2 for Roma on the weekend

When I look at the guy in the hood next to AVB I just think of RE4.

I think that a lot of people (myself included) were expecting a bigger "purge" of players from the Chelsea squad this year. I was hoping for players like Malouda to be sold and a lot of new young players either brought in or promoted to the first team. In reality there was only two big departures and they didn't happen until January. It seems to me that AVB tried new exciting tactics but forgot to bring in players that were suited to them. Now we are left, barring a Champions League or FA Cup win, with a bit of a lost season.

Hey guys, I just got approved and I thought it would be apropriet to make my first post in the thread I've been lurking in for over 2 friggin years.

Since this thread is also realatively new you can put me down as a Schalke fan, we can't just have Bayern/Dortmund fans as the only mouthpieces for the BuLi, can we?

Welcome! We seem to be getting a steady flow of new faces, which is always nice.

Utrecht the first team ever to beat Ajax in 4 consecutive league games. (divided over 2 seasons)

Can we get a hurray ?

HURRAY!

Hello! Always lovely to see new teams represented.

As for Schalke, expect some hate, Milch and elsk are always far too keen to give some out. And I saw this score and was like MAH GOD UTRECHT. Whose the Ajax fan, Wessej?

I prefer transitional season :p But I agree - I was hoping a few more would go - Ferreira, Malouda, Alex, Anelka, Kalou to name a handful

There's probably more than Wessiej. ;)

It's great that we set a new record, but it's even better that we got the 3 points as we needed them very badly.

And as pics are always nice:

Siena's keeper after owning us last night:
"Juventus' most dangerous attacker? Giorgio Chiellini, no doubt about it."
