The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

I modified the Skyrim.ini as you suggested but it didn't work. I can use 'FOV 90' in the console and it will work but the moment I fast travel, it reverts.

It's simply not worth the trouble. I'm actually playing kind of a hardcore style and not using fast travel, and while sometimes it will revert after loading into a building or dungeon, I can just keep setting it via the console as it's pretty easy to do.

I haven't used it myself, but doesn't that enhanced blood mod change the visible blood splatter when your character gets hit? You could try disabling it and check in game if that's affecting the FOV setting in any way.

Am i the only one that absolutely hates how colonialraptors game looks? Too shiny + ridiculous female models etc :p i mean no harm! There are a few of them that have superb lighting, but the rest is ugly

It's one of the reasons I steer clear of this thread. I kind of wish the glossy TES girl-room wahjah would stay on Nexus behind an age gate or find a hub in NeoGAF's dating sim underground. But I like to think of myself as an open person so I look for mods on my own and stay out of the discussion.

One of the biggest problems with these mods (and a lot of texture packs) is that everything looks out of place and there are dozens of different styles clashing for attention at once in a single scene.

Man, these Witcher 2 armor models look so good they're hard to pass on even if they're not entirely lore friendly, I mean look at Jenassa here, the level of detail is crazy.

janessa.jpg

well they originally made by CD Projekt RED themselves

Now we just need Zenimax to buy CD Projekt and make them do the engine/character design/combat for TES 6 :P

Is it safe to overwrite the Water, Flora, Nightsky mods on the Skyrim HD 2K Texture mod? It has a conflict. Or is Skyrim HD the best?

As was said, it's just a matter of what was copied last. Either don't overwrite on NMM, or install the other mods last. That said, I am not a fan of a lot of the textures in Skyrim HD 2k. Very interested in how well Bethesda's pack will look.

I'm getting really fed up with Skyrim at this point, and maybe this isn't the right thread for it anymore but the game just constantly crashes on me since the patch. It just freezes up random times either during load screens or when my character is entering/exiting a crafting station. I was able to play almost 100 hours without a single issue since the game released and now I can barely play for 30 minutes. Worst part is everyone loves the patch and I seem to be one of the only people have problems with it... :(

What's the point of complaining about it? It's definitely not my cup of tea either but no reason to poke fun... at most maybe he can lighten up on the number of screenshots but you don't have to play the game like him if you don't want to.

Why are you people complaining about ColonialRaptor's stuff? If you don't like it just ignore and be done with it, it's his/her taste and and he/she actually finds the time to keep us updated on new good mods etc...

Assuming you're not using many mods, I'd suggest you should back up your saves and make a clean install.

I was going to start adding high-res textures but I might wait if bethesda has some(maybe) coming out. If I do though, fo I still need that 4gb mod or has that been fixed?

Yesterday while working on that red model/map issue bug I was having, my mod plugins got disabled. I ended up re-enabling them and went about my business. When I loaded up my game a message popped up saying certain content was no longer available, but I didn't think much of it.

6'ish hours later, in-game, I decided to head back to my Whiterun house. I desperately needed to unload a bunch of gear plus I had learned Ebony Blacksmithing and had a bunch of ebony ore stored in my house.

I was using the dovahkiin's hideout mod and had spent a lot of time storing all the weapons and materials within it. Well, I realized that when the plugin got disabled, everything reset within the dovahkiin's hideout. All that stuff I had, all that ore, all that leather and all that gear that I was saving (to sell when my barter was up higher)....gone! :(

Can I at least use the console commands to get some of my crafting materials back? What does that do to the game? Not too worried about STEAM achievements, but if I do that will it bug the game at all?

Don't think it does anything so go for it.

Yeah, you can do it with the console - you'll still get achievements to. Just open the console and type: player.additem 5ACE4 1. That will add one iron ingot (change the 1 at the end to add however many you want). Do the same for your other items, just change the item code. You can search for the items codes by typing: help "string" 0. Replace string with whatever word you want to search. On the same token you can use player.removeitem if you want to get rid of stuff.

Awesome. I was kinda bummed out, but at least I know how many stacks I had so I just gave myself that amount and was able to make my new armour.

Also, Skyrim Workshop apparently popped up briefly. It was listed as a new section above achievements according to a friend who saw it. He said it disappeared pretty quick though.

I've been using Elys Uncapper to play my game and try and have a level cap of 252 instead of just 81 and it is supposed to raise the Skill Level cap to 300 instead of 100, however, it has stopped working for some unknown reason.

I have tried EVERYTHING to get it to work again and I just can't seem to fix it, and when I say everything, I mean everything.

Removed SKSE, opened game, save, re-download and install 1.4.10 SKSE and newest version of plugin, load - no dice. So that's the 'clean save' method.

I've used Wyre Bash to load SKSE_loader, used SKSE_loader through MO, used SKSE loader manually, disabled any skill affecting mods, disabled ALL mods, started a new save, I just can't figure out what the F I am doing wrong :(

I am utterly and completely stumped to the wall, I just don't know what else I can do and I don't want to play the game without this mod because I fear that I will no longer enjoy the game if I get to level 81 and I'm not 'levelling' any more. I need to be levelling, even though it's menial and really has no impact on anything, it just needs to be part of the game for me...

Edit - I just watched the DBZ video, my god... this game is going places with the CK. I don't think I'm going to need to buy another game all year.

Am i the only one that absolutely hates how colonialraptors game looks? Too shiny + ridiculous female models etc :p i mean no harm! There are a few of them that have superb lighting, but the rest is ugly

I feel the same way, but decided not to comment. People will play how they want to play. We just need other people to post more screenshots to balance it out, I think.

More recommended mods:

Better distant LOD waterfalls - No more glowing waterfalls!

Heigh Adjusted Races w/ True Giants

It'll be a riot if the CK is delayed tomorrow. Personally, I'm expecting it.

Skyrim HD 2K is the most comprehensive. There's no other way to get an equivalent solution. At best, you'll get a mix of various textures. In my case, I'm using a couple texture packs for villages and buildings, but Riften, Solitude, and many other things are still vanilla. Skyrim HD 2K is your only solution if you want a complete retexturing of Skyrim, unless of course a high-res texture pack from Bethesda really is on the way.

In the meantime, for villages, I recommend HQ Towns and Villages w/ Mossy Roofs

For landscape, I can't recommend anything. I just don't think landscape textures are significant enough to consider retexturing. Not only that, but in my experience, landscape texture packs change the look of Skyrim too drastically and don't even fix the worst problem with landscape textures: the tiled texture look. If the high-res texture pack is coming, that's your best bet.

Rocks and mountains on the other hand, those definitely could use some upgrading.
I'm privy to AOF Detailed Mountains or Improved rock and mountain textures.

Also, Real Ice.

Well... here's my roundup of new mods for the last little while... I haven't posted one of these in a fair while so be warned I've got a lot to cover, there is no order to this, I'm basically just going to share with you guys everything that I cover because I'm going over everything that I've got to make sure everything is working properly this morning and I thought I'd share everything with you guys while I'm doing it. Why not right

Knights of the Nine Armor
Cool Plate style armor, this is the way I wish Steel plate was done in the first place - pretty awesome if you ask me :)

Paid Perk Reset
Pay gold to reset your perks back to zero and unlock the correct amount of perks that you should have for the level that you are on - this allows you to re-allocate your perks. A great little mod.

Mini Shields
This is kind of a funny little mod. In case you don't like the way shields kind of "waggle" around when you're holding it as you run this guy has made 'mini' shields which give you the benefit of having a shield equipped, but it only covers your knuckles. It's kind of funny really, I don't use it because I currently like my big Orcish Shield, but some peopel might.

Also - for those of you who have a lot of mods and are having trouble with large loading times and have Steam not on an SSD because their Steam Directory is so large, have you ever tried SteamMover? I just found it today.

So with regard to the Dragon ball mods and others that will inevitably follow it that use copy written material...will that be allowed on Steam? Maybe a youtube like thing where it gets taken down at the request of holder, or will stuff like that just not be allowed period.

Also wondering if ENB stuff will be on the workshop, or does that require a separate program.

I think this just does the same thing SSD boost indoes though right?
Except SSD boost works for everything and any kind of files. At least at a quick glance it looks like they are the same but steammover has more reports of problems.

It seems only mods made with the Creation Kit will show up on Steam, judging by the CK preview video. If that's the case, ENB and other post-processing mods, SKSE and Script Dragon plugins, and everything else not done with the CK must be found elsewhere. Personally, I hope this is the case. It'll be much easier to break your game with non CK addons.

As for the adult mods and copyrighted-materials, I doubt we'll see them allowed on Steam, but we'll have to wait and see.

There is going to be a TON of changes when it comes to the workshop and a good number of things will not be on it and on other websites. Also it will cause a bit of an issue with some mods like say a Warhammer mod. Where maybe characters and none copyrighted stuff could be on the workshop but then other stuff in the same mod would have to be on Nexus, so of course it would all be on Nexus and not on the workshop. Large compilation mods might be an issue if they copy and state that they do, direct things from other games, movies and so on. But I don't know. Its going to be really weird for awhile to see how its sorted out. I am sure there is going to be a good bit of confusion at first.
ENB probably won't be on there.

I don't know, there must be some other way to add files. That would basically mean only esp mods, you couldn't even put up a simple texture replacement. Though I guess that would guarantee on their end there aren't any assets from other games showing up.

Getting download errors across the board with Nexus Mod Manager. Not sure if its something i have done.

Comes up with "File does not exist 'URL'", status 'error'

I really hope that Steam Workshop can make modding easier for more casual gamers. I'm having a hell of a time just trying to get a realistic lighting mod to work.

If I have to learn three different programs like I remember doing for Oblivion I am afraid I won't have the time to experience the game at its full modded potential.

Yes I think this is it's basic purpose. A way for people to use mods and not break the game by over writing files. I'm hoping the ENB stuff will be on it as well just to try it.

When I launch NMM there's no way to tell if a mod is up to date (last time I checked half of them weren't); they all just say <no data> in the column. I think the website is down. Don't die on me, god damn you!

No probs. I was just trying to clarify if it was a unique thing or just a competitor to SSD boost. It seems like it is. For now I will use SSD boost. It works without some of the caveats of the new one and works very well. I actually don't use it that much...just Bethesda games hahahahaha.

Mod organizer does this right now and works great. Virtual file directory and doesn't impact your main game at all.

I got big big plans for tomorrow.

For me anyways, I'm a noob modder but it's going to be fun. Been fooling around in the newvegas one to get warmed up.

Is there a proper way to do it without a mod? Like, can I just remove a few points and then add them somewhere else, using the console, or does that mess up the game somehow?

edit: nvm, found this: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Console_Perk_Codes_(Skyrim) - looks like this will be the best route as I only want to swap around about three points I put into heavy armour, that I don't use.

No more than a few 100 megs. I doubt they will use really high res (like Qarls for Oblivion for instance) because it will introduce plenty of performance issues.

Beth probably have some good licensed compression tech that regular modders don't have access to.

Skyrim HD lite is only 300MB unzipped, and that's 1024x1024.

Though it's partial, but I doubt Beth's pack will cover everything.

That doesn't tell me much, just because it's a big texture it can still look bad / not noticeably different, kinda depends what's on the texture as well. And how partial is it.

A texture pack that takes up minimal amount of space is not exactly a quality sign.
