South America, prices here are usually 2.05X the normal price. Creationary is good fun although I guess if you are a hardcore lego fan you already have a greater selection of pieces and the insert does a poor job holding the contents together. IMHO its still worth it. We usually build at the same time until everyone but one has finished, then we guess each creation in order, otherwise it gets too boring with only 1 building and the rest waiting.
Ah, that's actually a pretty good idea! I guess it would also introduce a mad scramble for pieces, but that could be fun, too! =D

Couple hours per section usually. Depends on the detail as well. The first floor of the Grand Emporium took about 4 hours because of tile work. The second floor only took about 2. The third floor took about 3 hours because it included the roof and chandelier.

Like, all of the bags, or just the different sections? If you mixed all 1,2,3 bags into a bucket, I would call you a crazy man.

Here's my rule of thumb for legos, Ill open the first bag i need a piece from, once I have to open another bag to get a piece I have to dump that whole bag into the pile I have made. So for fire brigade I just had all the 1 bags open in a giant pile, the hunt for the pieces is part of the fun and appeal to me. Sorting is boring, and would make the build go by far too quick.

I only ever sort big ass pieces, and the small ones are usually left on a pile or in a bag.

Sorting can be good and bad I think but it depends on the set. I've just done the Jedi Starfighter UCS (10215) and did it bag by bag and it took about the same amount of time as an ebay B-Wing (6208) which was all mixed up.

I'm preparing for a big sort now, got about 3kg of parts I need to sort........ need to balance all this sorting with some building. My ratio of set to MOC has gone too far towards sets recently as I've been catching up.

Got Imperial Star Destroyer (6211), Jedi Shuttle (7931), Republic Frigate (7964) and aforementioned Starfighter & B-wing built over the last few days and I need to get started on a big project if I can decide on the direction.

Anyone else got anything on the go? MOC wise I mean. Or any advice on starting large ships? I'm going for at least 100 studs long but possibly more.

Picked this up today. Creator sets are amazing. I'll build it over the weekend in between Football matches.

WANT. The thing I love about the Apple Tree House is that it's just classic old-school LEGO, no fancy brands or gimmicks.

That's the reason why I picked it. Star Wars doesn't interest me and the bigger sets are just too expensive. This was reasonable enough for a purchase.

but... football is over for the season. You mean Soccer?

Was that really necessary?? The sport is called Football. End of discussion.

It it foolish to even try to look into building the UCS Falcon from scratch?

It's got to be cheaper than paying $2k for one, regardless of how much work you have to go through to get the pieces. Might even make it more fun than ever buying it stock.

Just sold my Falcon for $1K locally. I had it up on eBay and it was getting close to 1.4K But after eBay/Paypal/shipping stress I wasn't going to make much more than my local bid.

It is an amazing set. Haven't checked out the prices on Bricklink but it would definitely be more fun, if you enjoy hunting and bargains and such.

I should mention this. When I was at the Lego store getting the fire brigade the employee told me its going OOP and phasing out next month. So if you want it, jump on it soon

I'm trying to build it as close to the set, and just initially spent like $80 on bricklink for 1200 pieces. A bunch of pieces look cheap and easy to acquire, but I just did a quick run down of the list while buying. I may have to swap colors for a few interior pieces and the dish is expensive.

I just did.

So, what I bought this month:

- X-Wing
- TIE Fighter
- Grand Emporium
- Fire Brigade

Ordered but not yet received, should arrive next week:

- Imperial Flagship
- Queen Anne's Revenge

Plan on buying in March:

- Pet Shop (damn those modulars, you have to get all of them!)
- Black Pearl (I like ships)
- SSD or Death Star

And then my money will be gone :)

Nerd rant about the new TIE Fighter: the little laser projectile pieces are red. Imperial ships always shot green lasers in the films. FAIL!

I have too much time and love the thing too damn much to care!

Would be nice to see what sets everyone here has. I'll go first.

1. Police Station - 6384, Year: 1983
2. Fire Station - 6382, Year: 1981
3. Cargo Centre - 6391, Year: 1984
4. Galaxy Commander - 6980, Year: 1983
5. Apple Tree House - 5891, Year: 2010
6. Transport Truck - 5765, Year: 2011
7. Race Truck (Technic) - 8041, Year: 2010

Just went to the LEGO store for the first time ever today.

The only LEGO I have left from my childhood is the:
1. LEGO Mindstorm Dark Side Developers Kit - 9754, Year: 2000 (My AT-AT currently has a broken leg after falling off of a bookshelf. Easy fix if I ever get back to it.)

Just today I picked up the VIP exclusive:
2. Mini Modulars - 10230, Year 2011/12?

I wanted something small with a lot of pieces and this guy looked perfect. Apparently it doesn't include all of the Modulars that are out (no Pet Shop), but I thought it could be a fun project to make my own Mini-Modular for the other ones.

Good God I have the mother of all hand cramps right now and I only finished the first building. AAAAAAHHHHH!!
So many small pieces. D:

I didn't put the stickers on mine because the thought of stickers on Lego bricks piss me off, but it does look a lot better with the stickers.

The engines were pretty easy it was the small square blocks with the red strips on the wings that were hard. There is a 5 long piece that has one long sticker but then they have you add a small square with a single red stripe at the end. My kit was missing one of the flat pieces that sits on top of the engine and had a regular lego strip with the bolts on it. Hope no one notices. ;)

Putting the TIE Fighter together I noticed a few places where they artificially inflated the piece count. Same on the X-Wing.

There were several places where they used a 2x1 flat top followed by a 6x1 flat top when they could have just as easily used an 8x1 flattop just like they did elsewhere in the set. Minor complaint, but it just seems less efficient.

It's due to how they make pieces, they already have certain ones made and a bunch of them. It is why inside the big things, the bricks you can actually see, arent the right colors.

That I get. Ones on the inside are fine, and it gives you a good visual indication on where to put other pieces. But the tips of the laser bolt thingies that are on the TIE Fighter are red instead of the correct green.

I am not really bothered by it, it is just something I noticed.

I was more referring to your 2nd complaint, about using a 2x1 and 6x1, instead of a 8x1.

The is one thing that does bother me. There are 8x1 pieces one stud away from a the grouping of a 2x1 and a 6x1 on the same set, and all are the same exact color and visible on the outside. The excuse of they only make X number of pieces is ridiculous if they are going to use something that would work in the same set. Same with how on the TIE Fighter there are parts where they use a 14x2 paired with a 2x2 when there are 16x2 pieces out there. There were none in the set, but they were fairly common in many other sets. If using the two pieces makes sense for structural integrity, I am all for it. To use two pieces for no reason other than to increase piece count it bothers me.

Maybe it is the OCD efficiency part of me that is bothered by it. I still had fun building it, but a few things in it just seem incredibly wasteful just to say it has more parts.

Maybe they are trying to introduce some fine detail? By using two tiles you get a thin line between the two which breaks up things?

go for it (and post your progress here)

Most pieces are straightforward. A couple are really rare and expensive so jump on them first or substitute. The radar dish and the rear grille around the engines (which is made from boat rigging)

Lego.com is an option for some of the pieces that are really expensive on bricklink, but some of the falcon parts are out if print - like the radar dish

Its not cheap - some on eurobricks estimate $800 to put together from scratch (less if you can already provide a bunch of the parts) - but cheaper than buying

I think the falcon or ISD might be my next bricklink project now I've pieced together Cafe Corner, but not for a good while

edit: Just checked and according to rebrickable, I already have 63% of the pieces for the UCS falcon..

OT: Strange, the picture I posted above is being displayed upside down on my laptop, but correctly on my iPad. Is it upside down for anyone else?

EDIT: Thanks, fixed it.

Would be nice to see what sets everyone here has. I'll go first.

Started my Lego career with 6075-2: Castle but that's either tucked away in the loft at my parents or been given away. Then used my brothers sets which were a mix of Space Classic from the early 80's and sadly suffered the same fate. I had most of the M:Tron sets and original Pirates but they were given to a charity shop (can you see the pattern here.... all I can say is it was not I that perpertrated this crime).

Two of my favourite sets that I originally bought for myself at Woolworths and have since had to rebuy via eBay.

All of my childhood lego was given to family when I grew out of it. Started buying a few sets when my kids were young, including simple things like the bucket of bricks. Also bought the 8860 chassis from ebay which was my favourite set from my youth.

Below is my current set list (I've removed the bulldozer and mobile crane becuase I'm going to sell them). I also have loose parts from bricklink to build Cafe Corner but I've not put that on the list, and last year's SW and City Advent Calendars but Rebrickable didn't have them in its database.

Did you find all the pieces for Cafe Corner? And how much did it cost this way?

The guy who sold me the Imperial Flagship also has a Green Grocer, but he wants $500 for it, that's too much for me, I'd rather buy a Super Star Destroyer or Death Star for that money.

Just placed an order for the Medieval Market Village from Walmart since it is on sale and I had a giftcard. Noticed Target also has the same $89 price online.

I might be on the lookout for a set or two in early March, not sure yet. But MMV will certainly hold me over pretty well.

Did you find all the pieces for Cafe Corner? And how much did it cost this way?

yes, and way too much. I'm a newbie at bricklinking, so ended up with a bunch of duplicate orders, some orders doubling parts (same parts delivered new & used). And I didn't substitute parts. Smart thinking would have had me replace some of the expensive dark red parts for brown or other colour to reduce cost.

I did order the steep roof slopes direct from lego though - those were really expensive on bricklink and not many places had enough quantity.

Overall probably £200-250? Thats with me having some of the parts already too. I could probably chop that nearly in half if I was more careful.

not that bothered about the green grocer, I think the Pet Shop scratches that itch just fine. I'd rather buy two of those, have the houses back to back like little townhouses often are, and mod the second pet shop into a grocers.

It's Saturday, so going to my local Smyths.

Looking on their site I feel paralysed :\ Honestly not sure what I want, being pulled in so many different directions. Wish me luck!

Red is correct despite the fighters firing green blaster bolts

http://images.wikia.com/starwars/images/0/03/Tiefighterfull.jpg
As you see, the guns are slightly red.

EDIT i apologize for nitpicing...
And... i hate this thread. Why do i look at this? I cannot afford buying Legos but i really, really want to....

Probably going to Bricklink order all the pieces for the microscale cafe corner- can't justify in my head buying them all for the price offered. Looks great though.

Hmm. Guess I was nitpicking because they make the bolts fire out on the Lego model, but thank you for the picture. Minor quibble that just came to mind, and it was not even an accurate quibble. Thank you.

And yes, I hate this thread. I couldn't really afford the two sets, but it feels like a huge relief that I have scratched the Lego itch now. Like a junkie, I must wait until the craving comes back.

Mini modular is not that expensive. I think itd be challenging to bricklink the pieces for one building for less than 1/5 the price of the set - likely you'll need to hit up a few sellers and bump into minimum orders, and shipping would add to it too.

I'd guesstimate it'd cost you maybe half the price of buying the whole thing?

How about buy the set, build cafe corner, and sell the other buildings in their bags on bricklink? I bet you'd get cafe corner for nearly free doing that

I've got the itch to buy a new set, but I have to force self to wait for the March VIP bonus point promotion. Grand Emporium is my next victim (before it goes OOP later this year).
