How hard is it to change the artwork? and where do you get the image printed?

You can get art printed at Fedex Office (formerly Kinkos). Regardless of where you print it, you'll need to get the art Lami-Labeled (creates a big laminated sticker from your art). Fedex Office can do that for you.

As for how hard it is to change the art, it's probably pretty easy for most people, but I'm apparently terrible at crafts and can't cut with an x-acto for shit. I tried to change out the art on my fightstick just last week. Let's just say it's still sans-art.

I just followed this guide: http://driph.com/words/2009/02/howto-add-new-art-to-your-madcatz-fightstick/

Template for the art is here: http://www.capcom-unity.com/s-kill/blog/2009/02/09/diy_stick_art_sfiv_fightstick_faceplate_templates

I did what they said in the guide and just went to FedEx Office and got it printed and put into a lamilabel. It was just a few bucks. I think the hardest part was just making sure I cut straight. I also couldn't get the screw out from that panel thing that has the home button and stuff on it. So I just cut around it. It helps to watch some youtube videos since the guide only comes with so many pictures.

It was fun, definitely try it out.

360 TE Kitty from toodles. It's solderless.
http://godlikecontrols.com/

just wanted to say thanks again for this. I installed it last night. took awhile (clamping 22 gauge wires into the screw terminals is a nightmare to do by hand. I don't know why I didn't fetch some needle nose pliers but it added at least an hour to the setup time. I'd get one set up only for a little pressure on the cable to loosen one of them back up. It was horrible. In the end, it all worked the first time I plugged it in.

Now I guess I'll pick up SCV on the PS3 and wait for SFxT, which is why I wanted to mod the stick in the first place.

Cheers.

Congrats on the mod and happy I could point you in the right direction.

Curse these retarded hands of mine!!! Why can't I pull a 2x dcf for the love of my life?!?! I own dual-modded Hori VLX Pro and for almost a year now but barely played with it that much. I was always a pad player but always wanted to get better with the stick cause its proper and all. So, I'm playing KOF XIII in practice mode to get use to the stick again and its a pain in the ass, I tell you what. LOL! Another thing I like to ask is, where do I find local tournaments/battle grounds to play with others over here in Northern NJ if anybody knows?

:/

I've been looking for a good dual stick(cross PS3/360 compatibility is a must), mainly for shooters, and I'm thinking of picking up the QanBa Q4 RAF. I'll most likely be getting it from from Gremlin Solutions: http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/products/qanba-q4raf-arcade-fighting-stick.htm

Anyone here had any experience with this stick? Any alternative stores you would recommend in Europe (looked at a Canadian site, they were charging ~$150 for postage!)? Might end up getting it from the QanBa store directly, depends on how expensive the shipping from Gremlin Solutions will be..

Personally, I feel that if you're riding the gate, you're doing it wrong. The art of using a stick is to develop enough control to just throw the lever enough to activate the switch, and press the button to pull off the special move. A rounded gate seems like a crutch, especially with fireball type motions. The shoryuken is the move that explains it perfectly, I find:

shoryuken.jpg

That last stop, the diagonal, is hard to achieve with anything but a square gate.

I actually tried an octo gate on my Tatsunoko VS Capcom stick, after using it for weeks with a stock LS-32, and I felt constricted in my motions. "To each his own" definitely applies here though, and you can probably kick my ass at KOF, so don't think I'm trying to be preachy here. The important part here is that you made your arcade stick your own.
I'm a fighting game noob.

Does the same thing apply to pads? Because I'm finding this to be hard.

depends on the controller and the size of your thumb, but yes the principle is the same. If your character is facing right (on the left side of the screen) your last stop should be in the space between the right direction and the down direction.

I'm horrible with electronics. Can I manage this?

have you ever stripped speaker wire for your home surround-sound system? I ask because there is a part where you cut the main USB cable, remove the plastic shielding around the wires and place them in the screw terminal.

screenshot20120213at341.png

that's the only challenging part, where everything else is just plug & play. and that's only challenging because the wires have to be stripped and inserted into the screw terminals are so tiny, doing it by hand is difficult. If you or a friend has stripped speaker wire before, it won't be a problem. It just may take a little time. If you click on the link the other guy provided for me, you can look at the installation PDF.

If you have something to hold the wires in place as you screw them down, it's cake. I would have saved myself at least an hour if I had help to hold the two ends of the stripped USB cable in place in the terminal while screwing.

dualshock3

yep. just end in that space between down and right (if facing left). you'll be holding both down and right at the same time with your thumb. right-->down-->down-right in rapid succession. you'll get used to it eventually, but expect it to take awhile.

My solution for this when installing the 3 chimps I've used before was to strip the wire longer, then bend it back onto itself. It gives the screw terminal more to hold so it will not only stay there better when screwing down, the screw will hold it down better when tugged.

So my main gaming systems (well, for games I'd want to use a stick in) are all Sega systems: Saturn, Genesis, Dreamcast. Mostly Saturn and Dreamcast, to be honest.

I own the Sega Virtua Stick HSS-0136 with the Seimitsu lever, but I hate the lack of microswitched buttons on the thing. It looks like a mod to put in real arcade buttons is basically impossible without completely shredding the stick. (Buttons are soldered, also 29mm instead of 30mm, etc.) I know the Dreamcast Agetec stick has a microswitched lever but is similarly hobbled by non-arcade buttons.

So what are my options? I'm not really that much of a connoisseur - I just want a stick with microswitched lever AND buttons, it doesn't have to be some sort of god-tier stick. For comparison, I think the Seimitsu lever in the HSS-0136 is pretty swell and if the goddamn buttons would click I'd be all good.

I'm willing to attempt mods, buy a different stick (maybe a PS2 stick?), or get converters... They just HAVE to be microswitched on lever and buttons, and preferably have a button configuration that works well for Saturn and DC shmups and fighters.

Thanks!

The least expensive solution for you would be to get any modern-ish, microswitched stick and hook up its pushbuttons and lever to an MC Cthulhu PCB. From there, you could add an RJ-45 jack and make cables for whatever consoles you planned to use it on. You could use a Tatsunoko vs. Capcom FightStick for the Wii, which for for as little as $20-30 now. Its lever and buttons are Sanwa clones, but it's easily upgradeable because it uses standard sized buttons and mounting brackets.

A cleaner, simpler solution would be to get a Mad Catz TE Fighstick for Xbox 360 and install a TE Kitty, which has all the functionality of the aforementioned MC Cthulhu and even includes an RJ-45 jack built in. This option is a bit less work since you'd just need to make cables, plus the Mad Catz TE is a really great stick that includes all Sanwa parts standard.

Unfortunately, neither PCB works with the Sega Genesis. :(

Thanks for the information. The MadCatz route looks most realistic considering my hardware skills, although pricey to be sure. But it looks like these sticks have been discontinued? (x360 standard edition has only 3 used buying options.) http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001M22WN8/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Try the Mad Catz store.

Are there no properly microswitched PS2 sticks?

There are some, but they might be a bit hard to find at this point. Unfortunately, my knowledge of older sticks is pretty limited.

Anyone have any templates for Qanba Q3 sticks?

Has anybody modded the Wii Tatsunoko vs Capcom stick to play multi consoles with a RJ45 adapter???? I had the stick in the box for so long now that I totally forgot about it, and would like to put it in good use finally, LOL!

You'd need an MC Cthulhu board, but yeah, there's no reason you couldn't. One foreseeable hassle, however, would be getting the guide button to work since you'd need to find its lead on the little guide/turbo PCB.

In my mostly futile quest to 1CC Dodonpachi, I've been looking at replacing the stock Sanwa stick in my MvC3 TE with a Seimitsu (also just curious to see the difference for myself).

What are my choices, if any, for a drop-in replacement? I don't mind doing wiring work either but I don't know where to start.

The Seimitsu LS-32-01 should drop right in.

Thanks!

Actually ended up going for a LS-56 with an octo-gate and a MS mounting plate as per this thread on Shoryuken

New stick, missed out when these were on sale and have really wanted one ever since. Glad to finally have it :)

Best stick! Love mine, I have used it extensively for the last year and a half and still going strong. Someday I´ll get it modded with custom artwork, maybe new buttons and stick but I´m kind of waiting until some buttons or the stick begins to malfunction.

Cool. Let us know how you like it. I'm looking to make that my next stick purchase.

So I got for 20 buck a brand new Madcatz SE, and I'm currently modding it. I wanted to change the artwork with some cave artwork, but can't find any on the web...

So I tought I may ask here : do you have any hi res Cave artwork ? (Dodonpachi , Ketsui...)

Something like this (without the text) :

thanks a lot !

Here's a hail-Mary question. Saw a stick at a retro shop yesterday and I can't remember the name of it. It was a PSX stick, with what felt like microswitched lever and buttons. Had big pause/play buttons in the top left corner. I think the name had something like "Learning System" in the name? Ring any bells?

World of Arcades has some high res scans of Cave games up to Mushihimesama. Here are some links

DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou.
DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou Black Label.
Ketsui.

Just look in the Documentation and Promotion materials links in both pages.

So today is the day that YesBoss! posts the entries for his contest, yeah? I'm excited! Been waiting to see what the other entries look like. I'm sure we're gonna get some good laughs out of this. Don't keep us waiting, YesBoss!

Turns out that stick I was talking about was an SNES stick: the QJ Topfighter.

Anyone know anything about this big ass tabletop stick? This is what I could find: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11802

Does it look modable for my purposes? Like how hard does is it look to put in better buttons and levers? Mod for different system connections? (Saturn, Dreamcast, Genesis)

Edit: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12611 Looks like he did mod in Sanwa parts. Just leaves me with the issue of getting it to work on Dreamcast and Saturn.

Apparently there are only 20K of them. All hand-made. I would jump on it, except that I don't even own an SNES so it would be useless to me unless I could get it running on other systems.

Actually I'm pretty sure today is just the submission deadline and they will be posted sometime the week after that. Hopefully YesBoss! keeps the submissions open until the last minute as I was going to take my picture late tonight so it will be coming in right before the deadline.

Based on the pics in that second link, it -looks- like the original PCB is common ground, meaning you could run more than one PCB at the same time. It's too bad the MC Cthulhu doesn't support the Genesis (as stated a few posts above), or that would be perfect.

Okay guys, I need some help.

I just got a Hori RAP VX-SA in the mail today, to replace my dying SF4 SE. I've been messing around with UMvC3 and I love how the stick feels except I'm running into a weird issue - I'm running control type Y (the equivalent of Type B for MadCatz sticks) and eveything works great except when I try to hold LT to swap my first character, it only does the assist. It only seems to be a problem with the LT button - I messed around with other control schemes and I had no problems swapping teammates with the other buttons.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any idea as to what I should do? Should I just open it up and make sure the button is connected properly? I literally just got this stick an hour ago via Amazon so I'd be pissed if it has a real problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Check if the turbo switch is active on LT

Was browsing Canadianjoysticks and saw that they had some new Qanba products:

Didn't know that eLive was working with Qanba on these. That Kindevu stick is adorable.

On a side note, did those Qanba seimitsus ship yet? Was wondering how they turned out.
