Finally I just put my hands on a Vita (kiosk at Sony official dealership here)

+D-pad is a fucking win, best d-pad since the Saturn.
+Sticks..almost feels like home, not perfect but they are millions years better than PSP and the slide thingy on 3DS.
+Screen is indeed looking great.
+Size is perfect for my hands, no hand cramps during half hour of playing (woohooo)

-Hate the feel of the back surface, I want more rough feel of it ( like whatever the 360 controller used).
-Also hate the R1/L2..they need to be like the DS3.
-Freaking finger print magnet machine, White Vita is needed ASAP.
-Sticks are convex need to be concave.

offtopic note: Their 3D headset VR thingy is completely stupid and gave me a headache.

Hi guys. I don't know if this has been answered yet but I preordered the Wifi version thinking that I would just be able to tether it to my phone. I understand that the near functionality would be usable this way so I was wondering what features will be missing that exclusively deals with the GPS?

Seconded.

Also, if I have the 3G version and only want to use the GPS feature, would that work for games? (Could I use the T@G app for example with just GPS?) Or is the GPS functionality limited in a way that I couldnt use it in games or only 3 times until the GPS free monthly download volume is used or something.

How are the screen protectors? Any big quality differences (expected) between brands or is it all the same? I have some generic brand on my Samsung Galaxy and it looks and works fine.

I'll probably go with one of those D3mon kits.

So, from what I understand, most digital PSP games are compatible with this thing, right?

What about minis? I'm seriously considering trading in my PSPGo, but obviously don't want to lose my games.

Check the original post I believe their is an unofficial list of what works. It is being updated as games are being confirmed by the community so it is not final.

As someone who went all digital on the PSP Go, I can easily say that my 32GB card will fill up fast. Heck, I had 32GB on my Go between the on-board memory and the 16GB card I installed on it which was technically MORE memory than I presently have on my Vita due to the 29GB cap on the current Vita format.

I'm down to 14GB free already. I'm reserving the first screen of icons for Vita titles (where I presently have 4 games installed: Uncharted, Wipeout, Hot Shots and SSD). I then have two screens allocated for Vita apps and system features. Then, my final screen of 10 bubbles is allocated towards PSP titles. I've got plenty more than that purchased but I'm artificially limiting myself here instead of bringing everything over.

Yea that worrys me. I know they are expensive and Sony thinks we wont buy as much but we should of been able to pre order them at least. 16GB and 32GB should of been able to be pre ordered. : (

Preordered, a 32GB at Gamestop a few weeks back, and picked it up earlier in the week this week.

Don't click the link if you have a poor connection.

This LittleBigPlanet one is almost perfect. All it needs is a minute in Photoshop to fix that nasty PSVITA in the corner.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/02/09/how-to-download-psp-titles-to-ps-vita/

Looking at this page, it seems that once again you have to download all your PSN titles via the download section, which is a complete clusterfuck of psp and ps3 games, DLC and demo's I've owned over the years. Why on earth can't sony just give us a drop down list of our bought games where we can pick and choose what to install like Steam? Why is this utterly obvious and simple feature not yet implemented after so many years? (off-topic a bit, but now that I think about it, what makes Steam work is the fact that it does do the obvious things correctly - convenience is king in DD interfaces).

That, and hearing that I'll no longer be able to store all my games on my PC and then transfer via media go in order to save downloading games every time I need to clear the memory card (which media GO helped with a LOT for psp, and which is doubly annoying seeing the prices of the cards themselves is going to mean I'll be restricted to a 16gig card), though hardly a deal-breaker is so disappointing.

I'm hoping that maybe I've got things mixed up a bit and its not actually like this, but it doesn't look like it.

Got to play a demo unit at Gamestop the other day. The machine is quite nice and I really liked the Gravity Rush demo. Uncharted looks great as well. I think I'll buy one after a couple of more games that I find interesting are released.

The only thing that concerned me a bit is the time it took to go from the home screen to start playing a game. Are there differences between loading times based on whether the game is played from a cartridge or from the memory card?

(I am not too happy with the home screen either. Does not go with the rest of the system. Somehow it seems a bit fisher price. Maybe it's the round icons or the colour scheme. Can't put my finger on it. Of course, that is a minor issue.)

After today, just three days to wait (two and a half really). Thankfully, work will kill a good portion of the time. Valentines day covers the waiting time of final night spending time with my wife. So, I guess, I just need to kill time today, and Monday night.

Did anyone start a "How I'm going to kill the time waiting for release" thread?

You can backup everything to your PC, just not using Media Go but Content Manager, a separate app for the Vita.

Call of Duty Vita for one will sell an awful lot of Vitas.

I used to think this and then I thought I'd compare it to another popular franchise that sells nearly as well--the Madden franchise. both have their strong core group that gets it no matter what.

Aren't Madden portable sales abysmal? I don't recall them selling any portable systems.

I think overall people will choose playing on the large TV over the Vita.

I don't think we really know the answer to this.

There's never been a decent Madden game on a portable.
There's never been a decent FPS on a portable. (I'm not sure Metroid Prime: Hunters counts.)

I'm especially curious to see how FIFA does for the Vita in the UK and the rest of Europe. That's a good litmus test.
Provided that EA and Sony are able to get the word out that people can get the full FIFA experience on a handheld device.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you but can't you backup your bought games/saves to your pc via the Content Manager app from the Vita?

So I was cleaning my Vita last night and noticed that there are a few light scratches on the screen, so I guess that answers that question.

Though you would never be able to see them if you weren't closely inspecting it while shining a bright light on it.

I still won't use a screen protector though, those are for suckers. :)

I wish I would have used one on my psp. I thought they were for suckers until it fell out of my hand one day, giving me a big, fat "YOU SUCKER" scratch.

Enjoy your scratched screen.

A few people that I've mentioned the Vita to, one of the first things they say is "hopefully it gets jailbroken soon" or something to that effect.

Kind of bugs me cause that's what did the first PSP in. So much piracy on that system that no developer wanted to make games for it anymore.

I hope this doesn't happen too severely on the Vita, so at least we see a decent lifespan in software support. I don't like the idea of needing proprietary memory cards, but I can't blame Sony for doing anything that might stave off the inevitable jailbreak for at least a little while.

I agree with this, piracy murders the PSP, and as a result publishers gave up on the system and rightfully so

Some of my friends who aren't gamers at all bought PSPs and immediately installed custom FW on it and started DLing games

I hope it doesn't get jailbroken for the health of the system and the software.
