Based on the early reviews, I have to say that I am pretty happy with my choices of picking up FIFA, Hot Shots, and Wipeout. I will likely pick up Uncharted if/when it goes on sale. Throw in MLB 12 in 3 weeks and I'll have plenty to keep me busy with my Vita.

I saw it said on Twitter that the ad teaser seemed reminiscent of 'Double Life'... seeing the full thing it seems like a slightly more literal take on that theme, but pending an English version, I think it might be a pretty good throwback to that.

Yep. The teaser seemed shitty but the full ad is awesome.

It's basically the Double Life ad but talking about 'the world as a playing field'

UC is getting hurt because it has no multiplayer, it's $50 on top of that ($10 more than any other launch game) and a new Uncharted just came out and can be easily had for at least the same price, if not $10 less easily.

It's tough because You can buy a PS3 and UC3 for less than a Vita and UC:GA and get more bang for your buck. Now, obviously, the Vita and PS3 cater to different needs, but still...tough argument.

I've never understood that obsession with sports games. Is fifa really all that good? I guess I enjoyed backyard soccer way back in the day. But madden or any other sports game just seemed so bad to me. I keep hearing about fifa like its on a whole new level.

If you’ve been following all the pre-release news, then you know that Uncharted: Golden Abyss also has a ton of collectibles, over 300 in fact. We wanted to not only give the game some replayability with some additional exploration, but also to tell more back story, which we do through the items you collect, locations you photograph, and other puzzles you solve. All of these are tied to Trophies that can be earned. We didn’t forget the gamer who prefers gunplay to exploration: one of the collectible types in Uncharted: Golden Abyss are the Bounties. These drop randomly from fallen enemies throughout the game and represent things that might have been found in the area you’re fighting in: old Spanish playing cards, gold and silver coins, etc. To make it more challenging, we made some the items scarce and made some them really rare. You’re not going to collect all these on a single play through.
Ugh, not sure I like the idea of RNG in there. We'll see.

However this sounds great! ^_^
But we’re not cruel. To make it a little easier to collect all the Bounties, we created The Black Market. This is a NEAR application that allows you select a Bounty type from your collection and send a request out to the Black Market. If any other VITA players out there (in the area where you made the request) have a Bounty that you’re missing, the Black Market will send you a copy of their Bounty, even the rarest collectibles. We even created a sixth Bounty type that you can obtain only through NEAR: if you send a request to the Black Market and no one has what you need, the Black Market will send you a carved Fetish for you troubles. Again, all of these are tied to Trophies. If you want that platinum, it’s going to take you awhile, and you have to take your PS VITA with you!

Yup, handheld games have insane prices in Europe. Also, promotions happen very rarely. Which is why I'm considering going full digital if I can get titles on US store for 34.99$.

Well, this is because Nintendo. PSP prices usually get lower. I'm sure that we'll see Uncharted Vita cheaper than Mario Kart DS (still 40€) in a few months.

I'll go for a double account:

US for cheaper Vita games and some PSP games unreleased in Europe, EU for PSN+ gifts, a few retail Vita that I could find in sales, and PSP digital games (that are cheaper in EU than in US, 11€ for Persona, for example)

Is anybody selling a vita hard case? Only one I can find is the one that comes with the feb which I rather not get since i'm going wifi.

I thought the teaser commercial was dumb. No gameplay shown at all. Should gone with a direct gameplay comparison between Vita vs 3DS, like old "Sega does Nintendon't" during 16bit era. It similar to the PS3 commercials that does nothing.

Here's my launch window:

Uncharted: GA (Amazon mistake, should have been Wipeout)
Wipeout
HSG
SSD
God of War: Ghost of Sparta

MLB 12 will be next, along w/ MotorStorm RC, if reviews are solid.

Great launch lineup!

I have to agree. I like the ad but I'd be selling this system on the dual-analog and that sexy 5" OLED screen. It's a graphical powerhouse for a portable system that can do anything your home console can do. They should be selling it on that.

Those days are over and frankly they don't belong in the here and now.

Agreed. Sony needs to just concentrate on getting the system out there for people to see.

Sony's biggest threat isn't Nintendo (though they're still the main competition), its the app market.

Uncharted's meta is 7.8 right now. Doesn't seem like the system seller most expected to be honest. I still think lack of multi hurt the game.

I'm a big Uncharted fan, but this title hasn't really grabbed me. It seems to be playng it safe from what I have seen and read. Also, I have in the back of my mind this isn't a Naughty Dog title. No disrespect to Sony Bend, but Naughty Dog is magical.

I'll probably pick it up when it reaches 30.

This could so easily be turned around and made to their advantage. It seems the app infrastructure is there, just open it up and let the pricing model run free a bit.

And don't call 'em Minis.

They are still direct competitors so it still applies anytime. Sorry, but implying that you can take "home console" on the go won't do shit. They pretty much already tried this approach with the PSP.

I think selling the system on the screen and the graphical quality of the games is still the right marketing campaign even though they are also supposedly competing against smart phones.

Let's face it, Smart phones are going to dominate the handheld market. The focus should be selling people on why they want this in their pocket versus a Nintendo device.

I think Sony shouldn't try to play the small ball in the handheld space. Smart phones are social devices by nature. While I think some of the gaming related social features on the Vita are fantastic (Live area/near) I don't really see myself using Facebook or Flickr. Those apps are something I'll use on my smart phone device.

As for gaming, I'm going to pick up the "big experience" games on this device and it's going to exist beside my smart phone, not in competition with it.

Yea, seems like I'm sticking with Uncharted and FIFA and I will more than likely get Super Stardust Delta because of the reviews. One thing you can say about the launch of the Vita is at least has the quality and quantity of games that the 3DS did not have at launch.

That's selling a very different concept to a different audience.

That is not the point. He is saying that artsy ads that don't sell products won't do anything.

Well, this is an artsy ad that didn't sell anything, but it sure as hell did something for Apple.

I am just making a case for trying to make ads that are more than just a list of features to show off a product.

THE BUZZ: Excited about the upcoming launch of the PlayStation Vita? Well why not get prepared by downloading a game right now.

Five Vita games are currently available via the U.S. PSN. While they are not visible through the normal menus, a quick search for each title will reveal them. You can buy and download each now, at a 10% discount, and have them ready to transfer when you get hold of your shiny new Vita. The games are:

Uncharted: Golden Abyss (3.2 GB) $45 ($50 MSRP)
Hot Shots (1.15 GB) $36 ($40 MSRP)
WipEout 2048 (1.6GB) $36 ($40 MSRP)
Super Stardust Delta (208 MB) $10 – PSN title
Modnation Racers Road Trip (1.5 GB) $27 ($30 MSRP)

EGM’s TAKE: These games have probably appeared on the PlayStation Store in preparation for the Vita First Edition launch this Wednesday, February 15. It’s perfect for fans looking to dive straight in with their Vita on launch day instead of waiting an hour for a game to download. We imagine there’s going to be a lot of Uncharted downloads happening over the next week.

It was absolutely selling something. It was selling viewers on the Apple culture. You don't have to sell your products in an ad, I agree.

However, I don't think Sony's ad is going to be successful doing the same thing. They're obviously trying to sell you on the idea of having a fantastic experience everywhere you go. The thing is, there are already portable devices out there that give you a great experience.

Instead they need to sell this thing on horsepower. Whenever anyone looks at this Vita they seem to fall in love. Sell them on that.

Apple has done that too and it has been very successful for them as well.

Man, with my games coming in today from Amazon, I really don't know if I'll be able to hold off from moving my 3G Launch pre-order to a FEB pre-order :|

By working out the math, the FEB will cost me about $18-$22 more than the 3G Launch Bundle, but will also come with the awesome FEB Vita case, which you can't buy separately.

$20 for a week early and the case...hmm...decisions. How strong am I? :lol

I'd get it instantly if they were offering earlier Vitas in EU ;)

So the FEB is out tomorrow according to the playstation blog, no update on gamestop.

Almost 100% sure its an error. I've seen this a bunch of times.

Whatever poor sap updates that Twitter really has no idea what the actual current day is. Sony probably has him locked down in some basement somewhere.

Grrr, I cant decided. On one hand I really want a Vita because I ADORE hot shots golf, I'll play it every day and love it. On the other hand I just know Vita is going to be a disaster worse than the 3DS launch and will likely see a price drop in the next few months. But the urge to be an early adopter is hitting me hard. Whats worse is I have $150 in best buy rewardzone points to use so could easily snatch one for just over a hundred. But I was saving those points for an iPad 3/iPhone 5 (which ever comes first).

Grrr. what to do what to do.
