If the console was FULL of titles like that I'd be tempted honestly, even though I don't like handhelds much. Sony seem to just be focused on making it a mini-PS3, which is the last thing I want since I have a PS3 and a 40" TV to play them on.

Definitely - if you have no need for a handheld gaming system and the ability to play games on the go then it really is a tough sell, and that potentially covers a couple of issues Sony are going to have : differentiating the system from the PS3 and pursuading the wider market why the "richer console experience" is better than the experience they get on their phone (a device that , by default, they -have- to carry)

For people such as yourself it seems that the "value proposition" is going to come mid 2013 when the library is fleshed out and the system is less expensive. Right now, it's clearly going to be too much cash to pay out for a system that doesn't have a lot of what you are interested in

We can only live off ports for so long though

i meant that porting down existing engines would help cut costs and of course you could reuse art assets rather than just peddling out ports - though i'll be perfectly honest : my situation is now that i'd gobble up ports because playing on the go is where i do most my gaming these days. But yeah, that's not going to take them very far at all.

Does GiantBomb have Rayman in that stack?

I don't think anyone has ever shown that game on the Vita, so if they do, they should show that off.

Touch My Katamari was a must have for me for two reasons, the first is they are enjoyable without being too stressful and the other is, the games don't lose value, try to find the PS3 version of Katamari for less than $30.

How is Wipeout watered down? The only major difference is the 30 FPS.

Are you serious? You just answered it. It's half the framerate of the console and still suffers from framerate issues, not to mention horrendous load times that may or may not be fixed (and to what degree we dont know).

It's not quite the same. Yes there are risk on anything, but not all platforms are the same. You know there are safe bets and risky bets. For example, developing for anything other than Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo right now for a dedicated console would be a risky bet. Given the nature of the market, handheld systems aren't such a safe bet, especially with Sony coming off the PSP and let's face it, the PS3 has lagged significantly thanks to Microsoft and Nintendo compared to where they were in the PS2 days. The Vita is far less of a sure thing than other platforms. So to say it's a good thing for the industry I don't think is true. It could harm the industry a lot more with the way the shift on mobile gaming is moving.

That's not to say that I think it's a good thing as a gamer where the shift in mobile gaming is moving towards. But, what's good or bad for the gamer, isn't equally the same as it reflects on the industry.

We can only live off ports for so long though. At some point original content is going to be needed. If all we're getting are ports, is this really what we want out of the platform? At any rate, serious development is going to needed to be pushed on to the platform at some point and that costs money.

There are no "sure things".
Especially if you consider your example of the drop off from PS2 -> PS3.

If anything, this tells us that the next Xbox is just as risky a bet as anything else. Just because it did well this generation doesn't mean it will the next.
Same with Nintendo and the WiiU.
Same with everything.

I just don't see how the Vita is any more risky than anything else.

Yeah, it looks pretty interesting! :) That black and white game, too, whatever it's called. Escape Plan?

You can always forget the PSP backlog on PSN store

and yes it's called escape plan you should also check out YS 4 remake using YS7 engine and dragon crown

...lol he said he CAN'T watch the stream...

Anyway.

My HSG is at my house right now... my Vita is still in "Not Yet Shipped" status... it usually takes 2 days for things to deliver.. unless they have them at the Amazon warehouse just a few miles from me.

Reading is fundamental.

The GamesTM scores:

Uncharted - 8/10
Wipeout 2048 - 9/10
Army Corps of Hell - 4/10
Little Deviants - 5/10
Modnation Racers 4/10
Everybody's Golf - 8/10
Touch My Katamari - 6/10
Ridge Racer - 5/10

I thought everyone said Army Corps of Hell was supposed to be good. GI gave it the same score.

That doesn't constitute being watered down to me. It's like saying Sonic Generations on consoles is watered down compared to the PC version. I prefer playing at 60 FPS, sure, but I wouldn't call it watered down.

Unique, non-console ports/sequels that justify the expensive price and make use of all the awesome tech.

Console ports are one of the reasons I want a Vita :)

Being able to lay in bed and play through the MGS HD collection, or playing FIFA or PES with the same fidelity and features as the console counterparts but on a handheld completely justifies the price for me.

This seems reasonable....

I thought Army Corps was suppose to be decent atleast?

Glad people are finally seeing in the Giant Bomb crew what I've been seeing for months.

Same with Nintendo.

I never said there were sure things. What I said was there are higher risks and lower risk platforms and anyone who has been in the industry for some time can spot those. They are fairly obvious to anyone with experience.

The drop off from PS2 to PS3 was obvious. I saw that coming long before the PS3 was released.

Certainly as we move forward, with rising development costs, any platform is going to be risky and that's part of the reason I think we're due for a crash. However that doesn't change the fact that the Vita goes against the grain and is in a much riskier position than say Microsoft is moving to the next Xbox. If you had to bet on the two platforms, the safer bet at this point in time is the next Xbox.

Sounds about right to my expectations, expected Army Corps of Hell to score higher though! Although that might be an acquired taste with the music and art.

Looks like Rayman is up now.

I'm not sure when they all collectively got sticks up their asses. It's a shame, I use to really like listening to them.

Edit: Able to watch the feed just fine at home.

I don't understand the hate toward Little Deviants. Seemed like a little fun mini-game when I played it.

It's more the price point that is causing the hate. I'm sure it would be much more accepted if it was priced at $10 or less like Super Stardust.

Giant bomb is mainly negative, It's why I don't visit there site or listen to the podcast. It's like there burnt out on gaming in general. I believe it's cause they never get laid and only hang out together drinking in hotels. They have low self esteem and it reflects there work. It's as if they all act like there to cool for gaming, is how it comes across to me.
(prepares Flamesuite)

Dude.

This. This. This.

I want a console-like basketball game to play on the go. Give it to me 2k.

Same here, except with an NHL game.

I'll probably buy MLB: The Show as well.

Yeah they have different opinions and shit.

How dare they...

Just because they aren't gushing over it doesn't make them wrong or right.

It's called opinions and different tastes.

I guess we'll just have to disagree.

I just can't see how the Vita's existence is supposed to be a bad thing for the industry.
On the other hand, I can see the non-existence of gaming-focused handheld devices or a handheld market with just one player and no competition to be a bad thing for the industry.

Yeah, I think I'm going with Lumines and Stardust and then adding Rayman whenever Amazon does one of their we-gotta-sell-this-shit sales. Rayman looks good and I wont have my daughter trying to punch my character the entire time.

This is one of the biggest reasons that I am buying a Vita, but I thought I might be the only one that was looking forward to playing FIFA or MLB 12 on a handheld even though I own them of a console.

I kind of want Rayman but I have a feeling it'll drop in price quickly. Ugh. Too many games I want.

I'm gonna end up buying too much shit for this thing. I see it already :(

Is there no Dpad? Why is he playing with the analog stick?

From what people have been saying, the d-pad is clicky. Better than the PS3 one.

Does this Dynasty Warriors have the update applied to it? I heard there was an update shown in Japan that will improve the graphics, framerate, and add more enemies on-screen.

Not that I care one iota about this series.

One thing that's gonna have to be stressed (and also made easy(er) by Sony) is linking Vita and PS3 copies of games. Special bundle pricing ("haha yeah right" says Sony) and unique features to keep the game experience across platforms, so that you have the game on the go and at home, need to be emphasized.
