I don't know how you could defend that GB stream... it was so incredibly boring due to the terrible people on camera. They were so uninterested that they shouldn't have even been there.

The other guys were watching the stream on a monitor. They weren't staring blankly into space. They were watching what you were watching. And yeah, low scores. The hottest title for Vita (Uncharted) is averaging in the 70s. The consensus best launch game appear to be Stardust, and that's averaging around 82. Granted those arent bad scores, but when they're the best and you also have to demo a bunch of games that are averaging in the 50s, it might not be all that much fun. They definitely seemed pleased to be playing Lumines and Rayman though. Patrick even went so far as to dismiss the lack of multiplayer and say it was worth it just for single player. I think some of you are being too hard on them simply because they didn't felate the Vita, which it doesn't sound like it's worthy of right now anyway.

I personally don't see Uncharted as the hottest title though.. to me that's Super Stardust Delta. Am I crazy? I think I might just stick to that, and play demo's until Gravity Rush comes out.

Anyone hoping for the Demon's Souls IP to make its way to the Vita? That would be awesome.

That's my wettest dream, to be honest. Even if it was just a straight port of the original.

The Vita supports a newer version of the Phyreengine, so theoretically it shouldn't be much of a challenge.

I'd be excited to see stuff like Super Stardust, UMVsC, RayMan, Wipeout, ...

So he should be more excited to play four games that he has already played superior versions of?

They tried to liven things up and add humor as best they can, but they can only work with what they have, and what they have is a large, but mostly standard platform launch lineup.

Hang on, so you're arguing that the launch is great, but say you'll probably only play the free game that comes with the system?

I saw no problems with the GB stream. I watched for game footage and I got what I wanted.

Same here! :)

Got my US unit earlier today with the accessory kit and uncharted. Also picked up super stardust and uncharted. Uncharted actually surprised me with the overall detail and visual quality.SSD is completely amazing but any fans of Housemarque should expect that. Others looking to try a download title on their new vita, SSD Delta is it.

So far I like it a lot more than all 3 psps I owned. It feels nice and the screen is amazingly vivid. Super stardust just looks amazing and plays perfect.

The system has an amazing amount of potential.

outunderthestars, I'm not sure I can speak for the other titles, but Super Stardust wasn't worse than the PSN version at all in terms of imagery and audio quality. Plus it has extra features and content the PSN version didnt have.

and we all know the vita version of UMVC3 has HITBOXES11!1

Just got my case which I ordered from ebay two weeks ago. I wanted a case just like in the FEB, but I didnt want to pay the extra $50, so I looked on ebay and I found this.

[IMG]http://i1161.photobucket.com/albums/q509/jakubp12/IMG_0174.jpg[IMG]

The case itself looks great and looks like an official case. Too bad I dont have a vita to place in there yet D:

For 9 bucks (Got it for $3 due to expiring ebay bucks), I recommend it completely.
Based on those pictures, I see an immediate flaw. That flap in the middle isn't big enough. If you put your USB cable or whatever in the mesh pockets above, and it sticks out a bit, when you close the case, it will be resting right on top of your Vita screen. That's just asking for scratches.

The hottest title for Vita is not Uncharted for me too ! ^_^
It currently belongs to Gravity Rush.

If you're talking about launched games, I'm actually more anxious to see Rayman and FIFA.

Looks semi-pornographic.

For a site like GB, if they're not interested in showcasing the Vita for a few hours... then just don't do it.

They choose to just "not do" a bunch of other things. It's like they just felt obligated to do something because it's a hardware launch. But it's not fun for anyone if you're not going to be into it. Throughout the entire thing, people were just saying how boring it was or whatever.
That perfectly summarizes my general opinion of Giant Bomb when it comes to Sony. They treat anything Sony as an obligation they have to deal with. Jeff in particular.

Yeah Uncharted is not interesting to me at all, not after Uncharted 3. I can't wait to have a true console fifa experience on a handheld and Virtua Tennis looks awesome too.

i need me a hard case similar to the FEB one since I'll be usually throwing the vita in the backpack.

Anyone hoping for the Demon's Souls IP to make its way to the Vita? That would be awesome.

The only problem would be that i dont want to throw my vita on the ground like my ps3 controller..

Demons souls and dark souls are only 2 games i have ever smashed my controller on the floor.

The Uncharted reviews are not looking good. Kotaku was especially harsh

For that asking price, people will generally raise their expectation, me think.

EDIT:

I don't mind a special mode where we fight 1-on-1, plus of course the usual invasion and co-op.

Ugh....considering that FEB from amazon with release day delivery, I got all my other stuff today :/

Question: I payed off a wi-fi model in store at Gamestop, I can go and just cancel that right? They won't try to pull some "well you can only use credit in store now" type shit will they? I wish I could cancel my reserve through the edge card, so stupid that I can't. I don't know that this is what I will do, but it's gonna kill me to wait another week...

You can. I canceled my 32GB preorder off my Wifi model so I could get it on Amazon. They asked why I was doing it and I just told them I was getting it from Amazon since GS had none in stock.

Kotaku also kept on comparing it to the PS3 versions of Uncharted which really, the game should never have to deal with. The experience of the Vita should be compared to previous handhelds and even the 3DS, not full-fledged consoles.

I don't see 3DS games being compared to Wii, 360 and PS3 games.. Seriously, the bias against Sony is just...

That's nuts, lol. A few games have really tested my patience before (Monster Hunter series) but never once I thought about throwing a controller (or a portable gaming device).

Uncharted is averaging close to an 80.

And it if weren't for GiantBomb's 60, the lowest score it has received is a 7. With many in the 80s and 90s. How is that bad?

It's unfortunate that this is the case, but a lot of these games are being judged against their console cousins. And given the power of the Vita, it's expected. Vita is basically a console experience in your hand. So Uncharted Golden Abyss is immediately compared to a full fledged Uncharted experience on the PS3, developed by Naughty Dog with a much bigger staff and experience making next-gen games, with an array of co-op and multiplayer modes, and large set piece moments.

Given this barometer of Uncharted quality, is it really unexpected to see the game score in the 80s? To score in the low 90s would mean that they've matched Naughty Dog on the PS3, and that just wasn't realistic. And how is that supposedly bad? Every single review indicates that it's a great Uncharted title, similar to the first game, and for many people it will be a nice change of pace to have a more intimate Uncharted experience in contrast to the big set-piece laden, globe trotting adventure that UC2 and UC3 were.

But it's completely disingenuous to claim that these are bad review scores.

It's easier to rate games higher that don't have a high barrier of comparison -- Stardust and Lumines for example, where the Vita versions are basically the best you will find on any platform.

So Gamestop has a special trade in offer tomorrow for V day. Im going to be trading in 2 games i dont play anymore and get 50 out of it. That will bump up my order to 200 which means now i have to decide on which game to get.

Im thinking im getting wipeout or uncharted, I think this decision will go down to the last day.

What other case options are you guys considering?

I really want the one that comes with the starter kit but $40? Already got a mem card.

It's the same price though, tough not to make the comparison.

Miyazaki said:
"I like the platform. It's very attractive"

"We're not considering it right now but there's always a chance. There's always a sense that I'd like to try and do something on that platform."

"If we were going to port [the series] to the NGP, I would probably redesign it so it fits the handheld,"

"It won't be a straight port, if we do happen to do it."

Fingers crossed.

This will always happen. Always.
But to be fair, Sony themselves have compared their Vita stuff to the PS3 stuff.

What are you talking about the reviews are fine.

No they are not.
78 metacritic? TERRIBLE.
80 is alright though
90 is good.
Sarcasm.

You always hear people whining and moaning about sites not using the full 10 point scale. But then when a game gets a 7, they're all like "THAT GAME TOTALLY SUCKS". They're a part of the problem!

But eh. I don't care about review scores when I make my purchasing decisions. I've learned that my tastes are usually vastly different from the medias'.
That and I grew up without internet or magazines, so I'm used to buying games I'm interested in without paying any attention to reviews.

That's the exact same problem that the PSP faced. Reviewers kept comparing it's games both in terms of graphics and content to PS2, Gamecube and Xbox games rather than to other handheld games. All while they compared DS games content wise to GBA games.

They'll do the same with the Vita vs. 3DS holding the two handhelds to entirely different standards.

Why they expect a $40 Vita game to pack far more content than a comparable $40 3DS game, I won't ever understand.

Do you happen to have a link to this deal?

It's average in the high 70s, not the 80s. And yeah, I think that's a bad average for the game Sony is pushing the hardest. And one of the reviews (Kotaku) doesn't even give it a score. They simply tell people to avoid it like the plague. GT gave it a good score and then on their stream told people not to buy it, because portable games shouldn't be 50 bucks. So yeah, I think the situation could be a bit better. But we'll see over the next couple of months how the US and Europe embrace Sony's overall plan for the Vita. My guess is it won't be greeted warmly, and we'll start seeing memory cards packed in and big drops in price on a lot of the games. But I've been wrong before and I'm sure it will happen many more times.

And Koller confirmed no DLC for Uncharted. That means no multiplayer and/or other DLC of any kinda. Right now Uncharted is looking like a poor product to be honest.

I don't get this. Did people want MP for the Vita one? I sure didn't. The reviews have all noted the story is decent and the voice acting is spot on, and that's what I come for. The 8.5's and such have all made the game sound fairly comparable to the consoles aside from set pieces. I'm excited.

The median score is an 80. That's about what I would expect for this title, given that Uncharted 3 -- a game made by many more people, with a full multiplayer component, and a more experienced team -- has a 92 metacritic. It would be virtually impossible for a scaled down version to score anywhere near that.

You keep mentioning the Kotaku review, where they continually compare it to UC2/3, and ignore the positive reviews out there.

What about destructoid? GamesTrailers? IGN? They all had very positive things to say about the game.

What matters is: If you love the Uncharted series (particularly Uncharted 1), you know what to expect, and you will enjoy this game. This is a showcase Vita title that many people are looking for.

And while I think it was important for Sony to get a standout title like Uncharted as a launch game for the Vita to showcase its prowess, they need to let Bend do their own thing for the next game they make.

Uncharted games set an impossibly high standard for a smaller dev to aspire to, and they've done a more than admirable job with Golden Abyss. But they need to create a new IP or work with a franchise that doesn't have such high standards and could be significantly improved potentially with their involvement.

Since we're super close to launch I just wanted to thank everyone for making the wait for the Vita much more enjoyable here. This was definitely a great thread to have helpful people share information.

how long do you think it will be before we see a Vita memory card to SD adapter like we saw with Duo to SD adapters like so:

41ejceZH89L._SL500_AA300_.jpg

I purposely went with a smaller 8 gig card expecting we will see faster and cheaper storage pretty soon, if not in just a few weeks.

There are people who just set too high standard for vita games right now, myself included, I was disapointed when I first saw uncharted GA at demo kiosk, because I was expecting it too look on par with PS3 graphics. But for uncharted, I just wished they would have kept native resolution, even if that sacrificed other graphical details, becuase I just couldnt stand the resolution.

Gametrailers advised people not to buy it until it falls in price. Hardly a ringing endorsement. Metacritic and Gamerankings both list the average score at 78. But that's splitting hairs. I've read all the reviews and what I gathered from them is that it's closer to UC1 than UC2/3, which is a huge negative to me personally since I think UC1 wasn't all that great. And it also lacks cheats/extras, which are the reasons why I replayed UC1 and UC2. All-in-all for me and me alone, UC GA sounds like a disaster waiting to happen at 50 bucks. Hardcore UC fans will buy it. Sony's counting on that. But will anyone else? I fear the game I want the most (Lumines) is going to bomb hard too due to its 40 dollar price tag.
