Playstation Vita western launch thread | It only does everything, everywhere.

I thought the Vita didn't release until next Tues. (Feb. 22nd). Why are people freaking out about their pre-orders not being shipped out yet? There is plenty of time for your order to ship and come in by the 22nd.

So does anyone have experience of the rubber in the PDP case? I'm torn between:

PDP Crystal Custom Case

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006X0KBY6/

Thrustmaster SPF Case

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006ZN5TQ6/

The PDP case has space for memory cards as well as game cards and keeps it away from the main unit - but I'm not sure I trust that rubber inner not to rub off. The Thrustmaster looks like it'll be more gentle with the unit itself but if the cards aren't secure in the inserts they'll fall and rattle about in there. :/

The Thrustmaster one also specifically says it's designed to allow NEAR to continue to work OK but I'm not sure I care about that/believe it'll be a problem. :/

Oh crap, the Playstation box design degradation continues. They were getting back on track with the PS3 slim box, and now this.

Fun fact: I still keep the original PS2 blue packaging box, because it was the best designed box for any consumer product ever. Apple can only look at it with envy, but so can every new Sony product as well.

Escape Plan is legit y'all. Beautiful game that controls wonderfully.
Did they manage to bring the framerate to 30 in the final game? I was unpleasantly surprised that it wasn't moving smoothly in the early demo they showed.

Man that shit is the most unappealing of all the PlayStation hardware launch boxes. PS2, PSP and PS3 were so good.
PS3 box was turrible. I threw it out the day I got the fat PS3.

I won't be able to get Vita on Wednesday, but that's ok - Monday to Wednesday next week I travel on business, so only "two" more days till I get my hands on my Vita.

I'm actually traveling early on Wednesday, so I'm hoping that I can get my Vita at a midnight launch before I go. I asked them about it at the Gamestop where I pre-ordered, and they said there would be a midnight opening, but they didn't sound very convincing. I'd sure love to be able to take my new Vita with me on the trip.

Freaking Target. Just when I had convinced myself I was happy with only picking up WipEout at launch they have to go and do a buy 2 get 1 free deal. All of a sudden Uncharted, Lumines, Hot Shots Golf, Rayman, and Virtua Tennis look a lot more appealing...

Can't.... resist....

They're the ones belonging to the FEB master race, not only do they want a Vita, but they want it one week before all other peasants.

;)

The rules are laid out on Amazons page:
3. 30 days after your DataConnect Pass activation, you will receive a game voucher code redeemable on the PlayStation Store.

And the only game you can get is Superstardust? So, I can't buy SSD today and get Escape Plan with this voucher in 30 days? I am seriously starting to hate this deal.

Waiting a week is going to kill me.

I honestly considered Christmas & New Years to be the worst. I mean, Japanese and Chinese gamers plus some excited importers were already at full speed while my purchase was months away in the future.

We can survive one more week after getting this far.

I haven't noticed any slowdown so far. But I'm not a frame counter.

3G/Wifi, and Wifi don't release until the 22nd. The First Edition Bundle comes out today.

The rubber in the PDP case is nice and very similar to the Logitech Playgear Pocket insides. I dont have a Vita yet though so I cant really comment on if it rubs off or not.
The PDP case is pretty large too so take that into account. Its definitely not pocketable unless you wear cargo pants, a jacket with large pockets, or something similar (like a hoodie).

I dont know if this applies to Europe or not but @Playstation confirmed on twitter that the free game is Super Stardust Delta and the DLC. They make no mention at all of any other games so Id say youre sol. Your best bet is to buy Escape Plan now and SSD in a month.

I don't even know why but...I actually store the game console's box. I've been doing it since PS1 and will do it with Vita lol

When I got married, tons of things got thrown out. Things I didn't know why I bothered keeping. One of them I think might have been a lot of personal freedom. Some others, were gaming boxes... tons of gaming boxes.

I hope some store effs up and puts all the Vitas out on the floor. I don't want to wait another week.

Walmart had theirs out last night. They had both Wi-Fi and 3G, but we were in a rush for dinner, so I didn't get time to ask.

From what I've heard though, they won't ring up at the counter.

I figured out my PSP save file issue. There's a folder called PSAVEDATA that Content Manager creates and then inside that is another folder named a bunch of random letters and numbers. You have to put each PSP save game folder into that folder in order for the Vita Content Manager to see them. Sort of cumbersome but I'm just glad I got it figured out.

Thanks for the impressions. I'm never going to pocket the Vita anyway, if it leaves the house with me it'll be in a messenger bag. :)

I always keep the boxes. I still have my NES box.

That's awesome. I wasn't born yet when the NES was released so I couldn't store the NES box (nor the master system), just play with the console :(

I do have the SNES and Genesis ones though (I think)

The only ones I know I have for sure are from PS1 era and onwards, need to search for SNES and Genesis one, I'm sure my parents keeps them somewhere.

Is UPS tracking down for anyone else? The last update I received was last night when it said billing information received. Now their tracking page doesn't seem to be working at all. I've never had issues with them in the past, but I always get paranoid when I can't track my order!

That wait didnt bother me because there really wasn't a single game that interested me. This week will be a much harder wait since Lumines is out. I just keep reminding myself of how Little Deviants, 3G and a 4G card aren't worth 100 dollars to me. And now that 100 bucks will go to Target and their B2G1free sale. See, waiting can be beneficial =)

It was for me in Canada. I used their iphone app which worked fine. Their tracking page literally crashed my browser earlier this morning.

All those Vitas mang.

Fantastic. It's textured hard plastic with compartments for 4 game carts, your ac adaptor and usb cable and of course the Vita itself. It's exactly what I wanted out of a case.

Thanks! I personally think it looks better then the other cases but was not sure about the overall quality.

So "Ridge Racer" retail comes with some kind of DLC season pass. Translation:
"Includes free Gold Pass for more courses and vehicles"

Ha! I'm glad it wasn't only me, started to believe my order got lost or something

Mine JUST updated for the first time since I got the tracking # last night. It's out for delivery.

But something seems fucked up in general with UPS this morning.

So can you like, go buy a Vita in a store today?

Unlikely. Most retailers only got enough FEBs for their preorders. This is just a soft launch, the actual release date is Feb 22.

Can you elaborate it more? I need to justified my Value pack purchase.

I don't want to get all Figboy where people think I'm a viral marketer, but Escape Plan is a slick package. Each level spans anywhere from 10 seconds up to 45 seconds so far. You can earn up to 3 stars depending on how many "gestures" you use and how quickly you complete a stage. All gameplay is touchscreen, with the exception of zooming in and out using the analog sticks. When you 2-star a level, you will want to replay it to get that third star.

Regarding length, it's hard to tell how much depth there is. There are a total of 234 stars to earn and I have 35 already. Levels are broken up into sections. The first section had 10 levels, the second had 9. Six other sections are locked behind Polaroid pictures with lock symbols on them.

The DLC potential here is endless. If the puzzles remain interesting and hilarious like they have been, I could easily throw down an extra 10 bucks for new content.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Thanks for the tip. The usual package tracker app I used wasn't working either, but the official app worked great. Looks like I'll be playing the Vita at work all day today if the UPS driver comes at the usual time.
