Telegraph suggests Wenger is ready to sling some of the wasters.

This comes the day after Djourou signed a new contract with higher wages.

Wenger has done a mini-hairdryer, we are to understand.

Not sure what there would be to say that all but the thickest of them don't already know.

Guy sounds like trouble. Seems like the kind of guy who would only stick around until some big spender comes in and swoops him up.
We should not even consider Hazard, imo. Guy would not stick around, price would hurt our budget without the reward, and I doubt the guy is that much better than what we have in his positions. We have bigger problems in other positions like a back up striker.

I agree, next year once you get past Chamakh there is a huge drop in quality.

This is why Arsenal are in the situation they are.

Come on Hazard, you know you want to. Would love him to join Chelsea in the summer. I think he fills an area of need and would pretty much be guaranteed to start for us.

The money is better spent on Mario Goetze and/or Gonzalo Higuain who I believe would benefit our club more.

That's just my opinion though.

How do you know those players will stick around?

You seem to be making assumptions on how certain players would act at a club based on what people in this thread have said about him.

You need someone like Hazard. Who do you have in his spot now? Arteta, Walcott, Arshavin and Gervinho. None of these players are as good as Hazard. Seriously, Zidane even pointed him out as a special player.

He's been complicit in his agent jerking around basically every top club for god knows how long. He's lucky he's good enough for people to still give a shit.

Hazard is a talented player but not 40million talented. I think Goetze would be a far better buy who I feel is a superior player to Hazard.

And Hazard would not stay at Arsenal, he would do a Nasri without doubt.

2010-2011 Wages: £124m includes all staff.

Around 35m is currently taken up by

Alumunia
Bendtner
Denilson
Chamakh
Flappy
Vela
Diaby
Walcott
Rosicky
Park
Manone
Arshavin
Gibbs
Djourou

To put that into context we waste 675k/week on dross.

Seriously I would only keep

RVP
Sagna
Koscielny
Fat Ches (backup)
Vermaelen
Song (backup)
Mertesacker (backup)
Santos (backup)
Arteta (backup)
Gervinho (backup)
Ramsey (backup)
Alex-OC
Frimpong
Wilshere
Coquelin
Yennaris
Jenkinson
Miyachi (already better than Walcott)
+ a few more from our youth team

I think we need

1 x GK
1 x CB
2 x FB
1 x DM
2 x CM
2 x IF/W
2 x CF

Plus

A new physio, new medical team, new first team coach, new assistant manager, new GK coach (Lehman??), new commercial director and a director of football.

That would represent a net outlay of 200-250m, we can sell the 14 above for 50m, just get them off the wage bill. The net outlay is coincidentally exactly what Usmanov proposed in the rights issue which exposed the board's real ambition for what it was.

If anybody pays serious money for Walcott, I will actually feel pity.

Watched the United v Ajax game again. Good on Young for the finish, but the rest of his game was the same tentative crap. I don't know if it's going to get better with time, or if he needs to beast against some woeful defenders to reassure himself that he can actually go past someone. It's like he accepts straight up that they're going to knock it out and he'll take the throw-in.

For which other club has he made that statement for?

Chelsea, United, Spurs, Madrid, Barca, City. He and his agent have been dragging the line in interviews for years. Time to get on with it.

So basically you're saying you need a whole new team.

I should say that I feel bad for Arsenal... don't like seeing them in such a hapless position. Would like them to win the FA Cup, but sadly just can't see Arsenal winning anything for a long time.

Dont agree with this at all. What is wrong with Szczesny? He is developing into an excellent keeper but benching him would only cause him to leave because he is better than that.

Ramsey, Gervinho, Song etc... would not tolerate the bench, they would leave.

To be honest, we bring in Gotze, Higuain and say Baines from Everton and just cut the dead wood from our side we will be a very strong team. We don't need to replace every position. Ideally, we need Cesc Fabregas to come back.

Has the Arsenal joke doing the rounds been posted yet? Sorry if old.

"What carrys ten mugs but no cups? Robin Van Persie"

But yeah, I actually kinda like Arsenal as well, at least of the top teams they really do want to play well.

Although we have a lot of dross in the team, I think a shake up of the backroom staff is needed as well. Pat Rice in particular is well past his sell by date. AW has too many yes men and I like to see have a season with different people taking on some responsibility. I doubt that would happen as AW is very stubborn and set in his ways now

I would like to Steve Bould given a more senior position and bring back Keown for defensive coach as well. I read that he temporarily took the position during our CL run in 2005 when we got the final, which included Eboue and Senderos in that back line, which is nothing short of a miracle.

You lose some, you draw some.

That's just life as an Arsenal supporter.

If he won't tolerate the bench maybe it's best that he does leave. He's been terrible every single time I've watched him. He's only young and taking some of the pressure off him will help.

What we need is a squad. The bulk of our first team is not good enough, they are at best backup.

Chesney is overweight, has poor positioning, poor communication/does not command his area and has been caught out many times this season. He is average. Maybe it's because he has no competition.

Ramsey is not a number 10. Gervinho has no end product. The centre backs bar Koscielny who has improved, are shite. The full backs are laughable and ALWAYS get caught out by a diagonal ball.

There needs to be a transformation from the ground up. We will win nothing till that happens. I hate being right about this, I really fucking hate it.

From the few (maybe 6-7) times I've seen Arsenal this season, what they need above all else is a commanding presence somewhere in midfield. They have no one who can dictate the tempo of the game and as a result they never really settle into any sort of rhythm and are always quite vulnerable defensively. Whether it's a deep lying playmaker, a CM, or a 10, they are in dire need to someone who has the ability to control games and to prevent the opposition from doing whatever they please. The rest of the team may seem mediocre, but there's still plenty of solid/promising talent I would say.

Been saying for a long while (to the point that I've given up) but Song has never been an adequate DMC.

The amount of times that Arsenal are gang fucked on the break is fair testament to this.

I hope he stays next season. looks like bayern is going through a big change. olic, usami, pranjic, breno, butt and probably van buyten are going to leave. that's six players from the already small squad who are not going to play next season.
shaqiri and dante are not enough.

Guus Hiddink is the new #Anzhi manager. Contract until the end of 2012/13 season. Salary 10 mln euro/year.

What a waste.

Oh, and fuck off Italian newspapers re. Pogba.

He's not out of contract.

He's a great midfielder though. Wins the ball well, can put in great passes, makes good runs. I think Wenger's judgement on him has been wrong just like he's been wrong with playing Walcott (how has he not just converted him to a striker yet?) on the wing...(learn to cross)

I'd put money on Hiddink failing.

I think he's better than this, though.

Gaz Neville is a good bloke said:
Former Reds captain Gary Neville has confirmed he will put some of the proceeds from his testimonial match towards a proposed new building for United supporters close to Old Trafford.

Located just off Sir Matt Busby Way and adjacent to the Manchester Ship Canal, the exciting new development would be able to accommodate up to 1,500 fans on matchday and is a vision Neville has had for some time.

“I always thought that if I was ever lucky enough to have a testimonial I wanted to create something special for the fans,” explained Gary.

“That something for me was a place where the fans could meet and share their love and passion for Manchester United. A place for the fans to call their own, to congregate and meet with like-minded people. A place to talk and breathe all things football."

"The fans have supported me throughout my career and hold a special place for me, so this is my way of showing my appreciation for all those years of support. This project really excites me, it epitomises the essence of being a fan.”

Neville hopes the building will be open for business at the start of the 2013/14 season and while this remains a private venture for the Reds' legend, he has the full support of United.

Beats Robbie Savage's Llanelli project.
