Call of Duty Vita confirmed for Fall release.

Something about that strikes me as being really uncomfortable. It just looks fucking wrong!

Pokemon Typing BT keyboard
True, but that is a special addon for that one particular game. It is not like you can use it for the CoD games for DS. PS3 and (and Xbox and Wii too i think?) also supports mouse and keyboard, but hardly any games support this. I think that Unreal Tournament 3 for PS3 is the only game that supports keyboard and mouse.

I guess the only system that hasn't gotten a CoD yet is the 3DS.
Ah, like that. I thought you ment systems who didnt support mouse and keyboard, especially for FPS :)

Nintendo vrp
vrp?

for playing in an environment that isn't their mancave? You only have to look at the MGS 3DS thread to see that theres a whole slew of people who would chose to play a game on a handheld rather than on a home console.

Also - the -singlereasontobuyamachine- thing is a bit of red herring.
This is how you build up the systems appeal - give it big name games across a braod spectrum, each game adds value until you hit a tipping point.

The average person that plays Call of Duty is not going to shell out $249 + $49.99 (there's no way CoD is going to be cheaper than that on Vita) for a Call of Duty experience when they can just buy the game for $10 more and play it on a console with friends who already own that console.

Basically, buy new version of the game for $59 or buy a new platform for $249.99 + memory storage + $49.99 game + find more people to play online with or convince friends to buy the Vita.

Most people are going to opt out to just buy the new version of the game on the platform they already own.

Why "maybe 3DS"? You think that the 3DS supports mouse and keyboard? :)

3DS's gyroscopic controls work almost as well as a mouse (and a million times better than dual joysticks). Vita has gyroscopes too, but due to the system's oblong shape they work better when you're tilting the system rather than moving it around in space like the 3DS.

Call of Duty AND Grand Theft Auto was on PSP. So much good that did. People who have 360's or PS3's at home and have smartphones don't give a fuck about dropping $300 to play Call of Duty on a handheld.

If anything I would imagine that the major COD fans would laugh at playing the game on a portable.

"Naw man... I want to kill noobs on my 50" TV."

Out of all the millions of CoD players there are in the world, I'm sure every single one will have that train of thought.

Yepper, but there's no mouse, but the frankinstick should solve that, not give it Wii/PC persision, but still, it's at console/Vita control level. :P

And I've heard the DS games by n-Space were quite good, I'd definitely count on them to make a 3DS entry, they're doing Rollercoaster Tycoon and Heroes of Ruin for 3DS, so they're getting some good hands-on with the hardware.

Oh. and shame on GAF for missing this:

Gametrailers blacklisted confirmed?

lol wtf is that abomination?

The Circle Pad Pro. It gives the 3DS dual analog controls and adds two additional triggers.

I would bet on the Vita having a better online setup and of course better graphics, but the two systems are able to offer very similar control options.

My point is you can't dismiss this as if it's just one small third party title. It's Call of Duty. Even if you hate it, it has a massive fan base right now. It's only going to do the Vita good for having it.

It has a massive fanbase...
On the 360 and PS3.
It's completely unproven that said fanbase will support the Vita.

This.

Either version, I'd rather they implement gyro controls anyway. They work infinitely better than dual analogue.

Either you believe that there's a vast, as-yet-untapped audience for dudebro games on a dedicated handheld, or (like me) you don't. Beyond that, there really isn't much more to say about CoD Vita in the absence of any concrete details.

I never said that all of them will. However, I can't see there being a decent amount people being interested in playing COD on Vita for $300+, when they can (again) have a similar or better experience playing COD with more people on a bigger screen just by paying $60 for the new version of the game for the console they already have.

GTA sales were huge on PSP. COD was not that big in those times, but Medal of Honor did good.

GTA did very well for the PSP, what are you talking about?

It will have its audience and impress a lot of people, but when people realise its the same thing as on their console and they can only play online with a decent WiFi signal, the appeal will diminish significantly. Unless of course they don't have a console.

Wii-U call of duty will also be pissing in its cornflakes this fall, I suspect.

huge for the install base of the PSP in America....yes. Huge in the grand scheme? No

Pokemon handheld sales are huge, New Super Mario DS sales are huge. GTA had good sales, but not huge.

Now get Skylanders as well. In combination with Vita's AR it could be really cool. Call of Duty will only make sense if there's some integration with the PS3 vrsion, but that would go against Microsoft's interests so I'm not expecting anything huge on that front.

wow never saw this coming. If sony and activision get the online bit right it's going to be big. bloody hell i might start saving for one right now

The size of the 3DS and Vita are relatively identical, so i dont see any difference there regarding the usage of tilting? It could work indeed, but having to constantly keeping tilting the system isnt feasable at all, especially in a FPS, in my opinion.

But regarding this talk about 3DS and keyboard, i thought that Thoraxes ment systems that didnt support mouse and keyboard for games, but i see now that he just ment system that had CoD games on them :)

But the majority of the fanbase is on the PS360. I don't see anyone passing the console versions over the Vita version.

Being able to play games out of the house is the whole pull of Handhelds. Why would it be any different with CoD? Right now you cannot play the console CoD anywhere but on 360, PS3 and PC. Throwing it on Vita will draw people to it.

wait - how is the Wii-U version going to be pissing in -anyones- cornflakes?! if there's a strong "no one will buy a PSV for COD" then who the hell is going to switch over from X360/PS3 to Wii-U for COD?

The best part about the news is the "wait for COD to raise Vita to heavens" crowd will only last through the end of the year. Whether it happens or not, at least we don't have to wait until 2013 to find out.

I do expect the Wii-u version (while still selling relatively low) to handily outsell the vita version

Fair enough, but my point is that the CoD fanbase is so large that even if only a small portion of people felt it necessary to buy a Vita for a handheld installment, the sales would still be substantial. It's common knowledge by now - the franchise is colossal. So colossal that it would bolster Vita sales considerably, in my opinion.

Will the average person who plays COD find the amount that he/she has to pay to play COD on the Vita worth it based on the amount of time that they will be out of the house?

that'ds true but most people buy CoD to play it online and while it will be cool to play on the go you will be limited in areas you can play online for the most part. The game will obviously sell but it doesn't really match up with the console versions.

Yup, this is always what decides the winning system and what games sell the most. Always.

Well with CoD superior graphics and gameplay seems to mean something. CoD games have had Wii version also. We know how those sold compared to HD consoles. Same scenario could happen with 3DS and Vita versions.

Why would you have to pass on the console versions to get Vita? The major pull for Vita is playing on PS3 then continuing on Vita. Vita is not meant to replace PS3 or 360. It's meant to enhance them by allowing you to play the same games on a handheld.
