Games you remember, names you don't

Ok, I've been contemplating asking in here for a while, but now it's really getting to me. I don't expect miracles, but I'm hoping someone has a tiny inkling of what I'm on about. If I'll get an answer anywhere it's GAF!

My memory is pretty fuzzy of what the actual game was - think it might have been a futuristic racer or a flight/space sim. Either way, the vehicles/ships had weapons, and you could eliminate other opponents/enemies.

The striking thing about it was the 'game over screen' - or rather the short animation sequence that played when you got destroyed. It showed your ship's cockpit getting pummeled, and then breaking, before suddenly flashing to a horrible picture of a skull/devil/evil face, complete with gruesome sound effects/screams/evil laugh. I don't remember exactly, but this scene really frightened me when I was younger. I mean really scared me, like if it looked like I might die, I would immediately pause and quit.

It was on the PC, and from what I remember the graphics were pretty primitive (probably released in the 90s). Although that death scene was quite detailed in comparison.

Man, this is vague! If anyone has any ideas or pictures or even videos of anything that sounds similar, please don't hesitate to share - I would love to track this thing down. Thanks!

An older PC game from, I think, Sierra about being this ogre monster thing running through this factory or machinery place. It was a platformer that I played when I was young. I frankly remember it being very shitty, but I liked playing as the ogre thing.

I think you could play as a human too if you wanted, but I don't recall that very well. Ring any bells?

It was from the '80s instead of the '90s, but perhaps you're thinking of Rescue on Fractalus.

Thanks for the attempt, Phil! Unfortunately that name doesn't ring any bells, and I'm sure I'd remember that green dude...

Scratching the corners of my mind even more, I get the crazy feeling it might have been a shoot-em-up (sidescroller cave-shooter style).

Been over a year, might as well try my luck again:

I can use help finding a game too.

You were a zookeeper. You went around a zoo, cleaning up litter and restoring the habitat for animals. When the habitat was clean, you could see these cheesy zoo pictures. These weird monster things were responsible for the mess and you had to lock them up by tracking down clues.

Old PC game from the early 90s, pretty sure it was floppy based.

Hunter/Hunted?

I'm *sure* there was a Sherston title with a similar premise to that. Unfortunately, I can't recall the name, and Sherston's site doesn't seem to have an archive section.

Edit: I *think* the title I'm thinking of is Animal Rescue. I'm not sure that's quite the game you're describing, in retrospect. Still *might* be, though.

Game on the original Xbox that had online mutiplayer. You could pick a bunch of different characters that had different weapons like swords and the such. I don't think it had guns. I also remember some of the characters being able to fly or dash in the air.

Hunter/Hunted?

*Googles*

Bingo!

Man, had fun with this action platformer as a youngster, but even then the controls were rigid (mostly the derpy jumps). My older computer didn't help the speed either, but had a good time doing crap with the monster, just cuz he looked so awesome to me at the time.

Thanks for the find/guess.

Phantom Dust?

Iron Phoenix?

I've got one for you. It was in an arcade, probably about 12 or 13 years ago, although I don't know if it was even new at the time. Anyway, a 2D sprite affair, 16 Bit kind of style, but obviously a bit prettier than a 16 bit console could feasibly manage because it was an arcade game (or at least it's like that in my head).

ANYWAY. You play a character, the screen doesn't scroll. You're on the ground at the bottom of the screen and you're shooting your weapon up in the air. Large bubbles appear at the top of the screen and each time you shoot one it splits into two bubbles about half the size of the one you shot until eventually you're shooting lots of tiny bubbles before they disappear completely and you win.

I think there were weapon power ups. I think it could be played 2 player, either co-op or against eachother I'm not sure. It was almost certainly a Japanese game or at least Japanese in style - the character design was very Japanese.

What the hell is it called? And it's not Bubble Bobble! People always think of Bubble Bobble when bubbles are mentioned...

Pang. Or Buster Brothers, to use its alternative name.

That's exactly the same gameplay-wise but having watched a YouTube video of both Buster Brothers and Super Buster Brothers, I definitely remember it being more graphically impressive! Was there anything after those games that ripped them off?

gah, so I have one, but not even sure if the full game came out. I only played the demo.

It was from some PC gaming magazine and it would have been around 1997 to maybe 2002ish? It was a first person horror game. I dont rememebr all of the details. I rouhgly remember it starting off with you in a bar or entering a bar. Some conversation happens. Then you go outside for some reason, and you enter the wine cellar through the side of the house. And then some freaky shit happened. Possibly with a small girl, but I could be making that up. But the Wine cellar I remember for sure.

If you can figure this one out, you'll be scratching a gargantuan itch.

It might be but I can't seem to find media of that game. Even Google is failing me.

Here's one that's on my head.

It's a point-and-click PC adventure game from I think the 90s. The setting is either noir or cyberpunk or both. The character you play as is a detective or something. The character's "paper doll" is on the left or right side of the screen and you can see what he's wearing. If you change his clothes, his paper doll will change as well.

I specifically remember that you can take off all of your character's clothes down to his underwear and you can go out and talk to people that way.

You wake up in his room at the beginning of the game. I think you can also find a gun under his pillow(?) at the beginning of the game.

I played it at a relative's house when I was young, but I never got the name of it. It's been on my mind ever since.

One I'm trying to remember. It was an educational point-and-click for PC, where the main character was exploring his house for items. One of the items was a quiche that he had to get from his grandmother's dream, and he proceeded to say "Your dream's all hazy, grandma!"

I believe the main character was a red-headed boy with an older sister who cared little for him.

I remember some sort of first person adventure game for the playstation. Things were purplish and you could jump up levels via trampolines or something...thats all that realyl comes to mind. I would pop that game in whenever I got tired of Tekken 2.

I think you're talking about Rise of the Dragon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rise_of_the_Dragon)

Sounds like Jumping Flash.

Trying to remember multiplayer bike racing arcade game with futuristic looks with sword action, missile, and boosts. My memory is a bit blurry, I remember decent graphics with pretty decent amount of polygons.

Here's one I've been trying to find over the last days:

It was a "scary" Myst-like first person adventure on PC that came roughly around the first half of the 90s. It was based on music themes and I remember a scene were you were out on a graveyard in the night and the ghost of Elvis came out it's grave to rock.

Any idea?

Hi. I have been trying to find an arcade game I see a long time ago (end of the 90's, I think). It was a shoot-them-up where you played as either a squrriel or a beaver, but they where flying on a plane, and the legs of the rodent where hanging and flapping as they move. The bullets where daimond shapped, and that's all I remember. They where sporting old-fashion flaying googles. Does any one ever saw this game?

Ok so I had this PS1 game my friend came over to let me hold it was a crazy game where you killed zombies? with a axe ..... I know for sure I fought naked women in a shower......

Next game I think it was a ps2 or ps1 action rpg ...? it was in a demo that had ZOE and ICO

it had stages and hub to go in it all I remember now was poison having do with something

Hopefully someone can help me out with this one as I have been pondering about it for years and years. It's a 32 bit game IIRC, a point and click.

There was this wizard with blue or purple robes with stars on them. It's standard point n click, puzzle adventure game from the 90s which I had a ton of fun playing as a kid.

Played it on Windows 95 or 98 (or maybe even DOS?), can't remember which. Probably came in a floppy disk.

If anyone remembers or finds this................my pants will explode.

Bounder?

Or Trailblazer?

The game i remember is exactly like bounder, but it's not him.
Probably the mine is a ripoff.

Discworld? But the mage has red robe.

A game that I can't remember for the life of me is this game on the N64 where you were tanks and you got to fight other tanks. I just can't remember it for the life of me.

I played one of those Game Collection discs with like 100 or so games compiled on it when I was young, probably around 1997/1998, but I vaguely remember some game on it with little pre-rendered cgi monsters, and it was a sidescrolling platformer I'm pretty sure... gosh I don't even know why I'm attempting to describe it, I doubt anyone will know lol. If it helps at all there was also some sort of flying sim on the compilation disc... and uh, that's it unfortunately.

If anyone knows the name of the first game I mentioned (if it was ever released separately) or the compilation disc i'd be overjoyed :)

EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot to mention, the flight sim probably wouldn't be best described as a flight sim, you drove a small polygonal flying vehicle, but have no memory of what it looks like other than the fact it was dark colored... and the environment was pretty foggy

Battlezone? or Battletanx?

You are a god. I looked up both of those games on YouTube to check the game play, and the game was called Battle Tanks, (which is what I think you meant to type but im not to certain) Thank you. Thank you so much.

Now it's time to go onto Amazon and see if they have any copies left. Thank you again. I have been trying to remember that game for years.

No, it's Battletanx, not Battle Tanks. The sequel is Battletanx: Global Assault. Fantastic games both of them, too.
